the shirt looks too big, BIG NONO it gets caught on a blade tooth, bam there goes the shirt, in a best case scerio, no im not a skilled person, but i would never have loose sleeve or loose anything on my body working with woodworking equipment. i dont play with my safetly even if i know how to use it and experianced. my carear is computer technician, always have anti-shock equipment. anyway fuck that
NEVER PLAY WITH YOUR SAFETY!!!!!! tighten that sleeve up
I've lauded your projects in the past, but I really have to say, your videography is superb. People could learn a lot from you with respect to this as much as anything else.
Looking to buy the plans for this when available. I dont have access to Thicknesser or any good jigs. I have access to a 3.6m Panel saw for ripping up plywood and the like, but cant do much more then that with it.
Can most of the machine and joinery be made with a bandsaw?
I want you to get more views. I am trying to spread your channel and site information around the internet. I have been subscribed to you for a long time and dont ever plan on unsubbing. Keep it up man.
Mathias, you are making magazines obsolete. Not only with the plans themselves, but with all of the "how TO" information that's evident. For example, consider the stand-off block we see at 3:10. Experienced table saw users will know that such a block helps to prevent prevent kickback of any cutoffs. (Without the block, cutoffs can get trapped between fence and blade, and then shot back at you at 200 mph.)
Picture = 1000 words
Well executed video = 1,000,000 words! (Inches or metric, you choose)
Yes, I think magazines are kind of obsolete. There's lots of good stuff online, and hopefully, eventually, people realize that the good stuff is online, not in print. You just have to go and find it, as opposed to buying a copy of Fine Woodworking and knowing you will get content of a consistent quality. But print magazines are not the place to find truly innovative content.
@Matthias We are somewhat close to a very useful crossover point if you consider digital back issues. (FWW sells a DVD archive of back issues.) Some magazines like FWW have "persistent information value over time", others do not. There is value in being able to search for a topic like (say) crosscut sleds, so you can quickly see evolution of design philosophies and innovations. The downside is that they're not online, and not cheap. Copyright law needs to evolve. :) Google "Times vs Tasini".
I have a question for you Matthias... since I have nobody really in my entourage who could possibly answer.
I wanted to know : is there any problem cutting teak wood with a bandsaw? I built a xylophone recently and since I couldn't find any place where they would cut it (they would say it is too dense, but i'm sure there must be a way), I had to do it with wood scissors...
So before investing in a bandsaw model, is it possible? Thanks in advance!
@fl260 I'll chime in in here, though I am not Matthias. Dense woods such as teak might require a bandsaw blade with carbide teeth. One example is the Lenox Pro Master III Bandsaw Blade.
I have cut lignum vitae (hardest wood there is) on my bandsaw - though just bits of it - it's expensive. Also some other exotic woods. Lower blade speeds probably help.
One of the worst woods in terms of making blades dull is white cedar. And that is an incredibly soft wood.
Is there anything you can't do?? I would love to see you make your own pens, or just pen cases, I'm very keen on trying pen making some time, but I don't have a lathe. =(
your a smart man
