  • It's sad that the ole Grand Trunk blue and orange has faded into CN's black and orange paintscheme, but at least the GTW is still around as a subsidiary of CN

  • why have you stopped railfanning

  • nicee graffiti haha

  • When was this video filmed? That GP 9 locomotive should of been sent to the scrapper years before this was filmed.

  • Summer of 2006 or 2007. The Grand Trunk GP9s are great pullers. I talked to an engineer that ran with one of them in the Winter of 2006, and he said they were able to pull 45-50 loaded grain cars up hill with snowy rails. Surprised the heck outta me! There are still many GP9s on CNs roster.

  • are the GP9R's still in service right now? I haven't seen any of them by my house since last summer. All that I've been catching lately as far as locals go are GP38-2's CN repaints. Hopefully there's still a good number of GTW's out there that haven't been painted over yet.

  • @GTWNathanM3 I last saw a GP9R in October 2009. I think plenty of other GP9s are in Canada

  • I think Norfolk Southern got rid of them too soon. They had a ton that came from the N&W. Southern had gotten rid of all of theirs around the time of the merger, so seeing them around my area was a treat til' they sent nearly all to the scrapper

  • This is actually a GP9R. Rebuilt in the early '90s with 645 power assemblies and new electrics.

  • what did the conductor say at 5:58 mark?

  • love the communication between brakeman and engineer

  • I love watching trains. =)

  • Great video!! Keep em' coming.

  • where they was pickin up barely see track in grass n so close to that buildin

  • I love to watch trains switch!!! Great video

  • The Grand Trunk Westernn Ey I Like There Logo Looks Pretty Much Just Like CN

  • Thats becuase it is now Cn they were bought out by them.

  • also the Grand trunk was allways a CN subsiderary

  • Nice Video They Are A Fast Crew

  • Thanks! Yeah, they're good.

  • Do You Like GTW???

  • Oh heck yeah, they're one of my favorites along with the Wisconsin & Southern, Illinois Central.

  • Is That Why In Your Name It Has IC For Illinois Central

    ???

  • Yeah, the IC 6071 was the first SD40 ever built. It still sits on an SD40 frame.

  • Thats Cool

  • SD35 frame

  • was on the side of the engine on the first train?

  • I think it might be a mirror....

  • how often do they come by there

  • The line sees action 3 to 6 times a day

  • That was a fun video to watch. Thanks for sharing the local action!

  • No problem, glad you liked it!

  • why was the conductor yelling wake up at 50 second just before approaching the crossing

  • he was talkin to another railfan

  • why?

  • just givin him a hard time. hes really friendly to railfans, and likes to joke and tal to us every now and then lol

  • wow a rare breed with railway workers now a days

  • yea, thats what ive heard, but i have never ran into a hostile crew on this line yet. I've become pretty good friends with quite a few engineers/conducters and MOW crews. there are at least 15-20 guys on the CN in this area that are more than friendly.

  • I had that here til they assigned a police officer at the yard near my house the stuff i can tell you about this guy will your head spin this guy thinks its wrong to love trains and or rail operations if he saw this video he would think your planing somthing evil

  • oh yea, i have also heard terrible stories about cops and railfans. Freeport police have only ever bothered me once, but they just asked what I was doing, thats all.

  • awesome

  • Thanks!

  • Switching is what I enjoy best about trains!!! Solid esoteric video!!! Resplendently touching to me!! Thank You!

  • thanks, im glad you like it!

  • finally a full switching job caught on tape, nice job-Dan.

  • Thanks a lot Dan!

  • A great clip showing industrial switching.

  • Ha, no, he said something like Aw, Jesus, I hope you're not catching this one on tape.

  • sounds like he was grunting at that switch:P maby it was giving him a hard time:P

  • Great video!! Keep em' coming..Thank you

  • good video. gtw are rare in were i am but when i get a chance to cross the border from canada im gonna try to find a gtw. hope i bring my camera

  • Canadian National (CN) actually owns these units, but they rarley, if ever, venture over the border. Chicago IL, Dubuque IA, and Waterloo IA are good places to find them.

  • Sweet GTW's Gotta love em

  • DAMN! That grear of video and this really very COOL! And do there have any interchange connceting with NS,CSX, BNSF, UP or it nothing?

  • yea, but not near here. in dubuque they have both BNSF and the IC&E to interchange with, and in Chicago, I think CN interchanges with all of the railroads you mentioned.

  • Ohhh that interesting and that awesome of video (thumb up)

  • Same number as the Southern unit the NS has.

  • man i still say that crossing needs a bell good vid i never new gt still had units how many do they have???now if u know please tell me there cool

  • hey, i think there are about 50 GTW units still out there.

  • Pickin' er up and FLYIN!!!

  • and the last scene lol

  • he was flyin at first good catch
