  • how much is rent in these areas?

  • @lilfreeway21 it can vary. some start at $1250 for a studio $1800 for a one bedroom $2300 for 2 bedroom and $4500 for a 3 bedroom. e-mail me at tee.harris_16@msn.com for more information

  • @craziikid9 woah that's pretty expensive compared to projects in the south...some of them go for $50 a month

  • @813flawdaboy thats to get an apartment in harlem but for these project buildings goes according to your income-

  • @lilfreeway21 in the housing developments it starts at $200 on up depending on income

  • NIGGER

  • @iamaGod357

    FUCK YOU

  • Wow, NYC is so cleaned up now compared to than it used to be. These projects dont even look bad. Go to a 3rd world country if you wanna see a real slum.

  • @TheDfdivino lol there stilly grimey as fuck to live in i bet you wouldnt last a night

  • @nycolombian91 I've lived in the streets of soyapango, san salvador. Thats a real hood. Harlem or any hood in America might be ghetto but there arent real slums in this country. Like disneyland compared to the 3rd world.

  • POLO GROUNDS DA FUK UP^^^^^^^^^^

  • what is the first song called?

  • @jhonk768 lol...what the hell is NEY York?

  • whats wrong with this i lived in the projects for 7 years its looks beter then what it did in the 70s an 80s

  • What up! This video has just made me reminisce 'bout some good old times in New York. I'm from Russia originally, born and raised but I spent a few years living in Brooklyn, Bensonhurst, the D line, just three subway stations away from Coney Island. And I used to hang out in Harlem as one of my homies lived there (Lexington Ave and 110th Str). Now I miss the 5ive boroughs madly, it's like a sort of homesickness mixed with nostalgia. Can't wait to come back soon! The vid is straight! Thanks!

  • That's what's up! This video has just made me reminisce 'bout some good old times! Actually I'm originally from Russia, but used to live in Brooklyn, Bensonhurst, the D line, just three subway stations away from Coney Island. Meanwhile I spent a lot of time in Harlem as one of my homies lived there (Lexington ave. and 110th str.). The video is straight ! Thanks!

  • you'd be very surprised how much London looks like New York! its pretty much the same thing! except what you call The Projects, we call Council Estates.. youtube London council estates you'll know what i mean!

  • @LeanneMariie15 ya i fink its quiete simaler too.

  • @Esewithattitiude me too thats why i hate when people argue on youtube about who lives in the worse place, London is as bad as New York so they shouldn't be arguing about it! Places like Kentish Town has been given crime rates worse than The Bronx! same with Peckham and Harlem.. so yeah there very similar!

  • @LeanneMariie15 not too forget hackney. its just typical americans sterytyping.

  • @Esewithattitiude yeah it is! alot of Americans would be so shocked if they knew the real England! most people who don't live in England still stereotype it the same way with the drinking tea and being up the queens ass, when the reality is very far from that!

  • @LeanneMariie15 there is nothing in london like the south bronx lol.

  • @nycolombian91 they're more alike than people think! for a start the Council Estates in London are practically the same as the ones in the Bronx, like I said youtube or google London Council Estates and you'll see for yourself, the lack of jobs, crime rates and poverty is very similar too! I mean look at the riots in the UK over the past week, the people weren't rioting for nothing...

  • AWWW GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS AND YOU COMPLAIN...

GO LIVE IN ANOTHER COUNTRY WHERE ITS WORSE..

OR THE CORPORATION WILL CRASH THE ECONOMY AND LEAVE YOU WITH NOTHING IN A THIRD WORLD AMERICA..NO FOOD, WATER, ELECTRICITY..

YOU HAVE BEEN MANIPULATED TO DESTROY YOURSELF..EVERYTHING WAS FAKE NOT REAL STOP BLAMING WHITEY AND BLAME SATAN....

  • @macdaddy nigga stop Lying

  • detroits worse.

  • Looks like paradise compare with the Brazilian favelas. =/

  • /watch?v=u5q1c5OQpOw&feature=related

  • Like this one. I thought you were being bias and not showing project in central Harlem but you did. Thank U. Respect is given to this one.

  • cant help it ima hood nigga, nigga run in my blood drug dealer nigga

  • Polo Grounds Projects, My old stomping grounds. Man,,,,Rucker Games, handball, paddel ball, and playing old school games in the hallway steps. Yea... : )

  • man fuck hatlem da hole new york chicago killanoise

  • What is the second song called?

  • @wallmaan K-Gutta - Can't help it

  • The buildings from 0:26 thru 0:34 is not Harlem, thats River Park Towers in the Bronx.

  • @Timessquare100 true my fault

  • Great vid, like the song to.

  • why must they look like prison buildings?

  • The idea for the housing project came from an experiment tested on rats. The rats all went crazy after a few months and attacked and killed each other. Sound familiar?

In fact, every animal tested went crazy or was very off-balance. Public schools started out as a project also.

  • Queens borough forever. I LOVE NY

  • whats the song at 3:40

  • harlem in the 80s and the 90s was sick

  • I saw several buildings in your video that are not a part of NYCHA! For instance Lenox Terrace buildings have really nice apartments, doctor offices, and doormen (I'm not talking toy cops). Do your research first before calling ordinary buildings the projects.

  • @rosegold1 thats why projects / apartments...

  • @rosegold1 RESEARCH

  • thats a very nice area...new york was bad in the 80´s but not yet

  • my city yonkers, new york projects are so ugly and depressing they're SLOWLY cleaning up though..

  • It 's my dream , living in New York, queens or harlem ... fucking europe

  • what is the second song called?

  • what is 0:24, 0:30, 0:48, 0:58, 1:51, 3:43 ?

  • what is 0:24, 0:30, 0:48, 0:58, 1:51, 3:43

  • this is just sad...i live in Buffalo NY...its a city not in NYC. but ive been to Alanta GA and rode subways and its pretty...ghetto but...this is just sad. its tooi dangerous...i pray it gets better.

  • Its a shame that no matter how bad the projects get New York is too cheap and lazy to tear um down. The city would be such a much better place to live.Chicago and New Orleans are cleaning up beautifully. But here. You come to New York now leave and come back 10 years from now the buildings will still be standing there. Uhh living in New York is sad.

  • @greatest2005 Chicago had just like 20 developments , new orleans just a few and they were even low rise houses.

NYC is full of high rise projects right now like 350 developments , so if you tear them down where should all those people live then? there is no space to build new small town houses , one high rise building would make up like 30 houses cant work out here

  • @Gryphus89 Ive always though about that also since i live her in New York. But something that the city could do is give evryone 2 year period thats more than enough time to prepare them to leave. But since the city is so broke and stupid it wont happen. It can all work out in time.

  • @Gryphus89 what is the first song called?

  • @gotthkid2 Immortal Technique - Harlem Streets

  • @Gryphus89 thats my song ive seen this nigga in harlem madd times

  • @Gryphus89 More than"20" we have a shitload more with a city half your size so when they tore them down we got fucked real bad.....it didnt work here either.....for every project you name in ny i bet i could damn near name a development to match it in chicago

  • @greatest2005 WHERE WOULD YOU PUT THE RESIDENTS OF THE PROJECTS AFTER YOU TEAR THE PROJECTS DOWN?

  • @mwazi1 Most people in projects have money you give all the tenants a 3 year notice to find somewhere else to live.

  • The hood that i was born and raise for my first 11 years of my life is way worst, the mountain shacks in the east of Venezuela i appreciate every thing that my ma and pa did to bring us here even if im broke ass hell still!!

  • south london looks worse, NY used to be ruthless in the 80s,90s though

  • 0:22 so gutta

  • what's the name of second song?

  • Nigga i know this shit .. Its hard to live there .. PS Song is Immortal Technique - Harlem Streets .. Peace yo

  • fuck america, ugly ass street and ugly town ,yea fuck the rednec kkk s they now how to stomp on poor pipel,im glad im not from there ,but musik is cool

  • @smooothjasminka it changes a person living in stuff like that its like another world

  • The buildings themselves looks alright, it's just that when you get very poor and desperate people into them, crime floods in and the neighborhood gets worse.

  • Well, I guess the nastiest things happen in the inside. The architecture doesn't really seem that bad and the environment doesn't feel oppressive. Down here in Colombia, this would be a normal mid class place to live in.

  • @Eaoleolo Although I'm not saying it is particularly "pretty"

  • Comment removed

  • I got to say there are some nasty places in london but nothing compared to that.

  • What song is this? It goes hard.

  • these people live in the hell the made for themselves. no sympathy.

  • to me they look like regular building but man when you go inside it's a whole different world it's crazy. I'm white and have to fucking worry about going to a certain area in COney Island or in manhattan, pisses me off i hate carrying weapons, Brass knuckles at times for a quick gateaway, that's why i want to become a cop. So at least have a pension and die for a good cause.

  • I'm writing a story agout a girl living in Harlem. Can anyone explain what it's like to live there?

  • BIG and TALL - yes, indeed. On the inside, however, they are (mostly) cramped units, no matter how many bedrooms/bathrooms are in each unit. Many people who grew up in these would come from big families, from what I heard on TV and radio at one point. New York may be the only city in the US or North America where the majority of projects are still in use as of 2010.

  • philly way worse

  • Heftig..:(

  • All you dumb mothafuckas. You have no idea what it's like growin up in public housing. It's not that they don't care about work. They can't work. No education. Most of us came from outside the US. majority didn't even have a chance.

  • u know i'm from London but I have to say that from the outside some of your housing projects look nice, I mean the architecture. they're bright red not grey and depressing like ours.

search for Heygate Estate or Stonebridge Estate in London to see the horrible grey 1960's prisons our government thought it was a good idea to house people in. luckily both these estates are being demolished and rebuilt to make them better places to live.

  • there is a reason for these....and it is for people who don't care about work...

  • yes i was wondering what the name of the song is and who is rapping this

  • immortal tech nice

  • there are no ghettos in the USA west point liberia the slums of mumbai indonesia how can you even compare these places we got it so good here in the usa

  • @boozeye66 There is always someone who has it worse than the next person

if you dont have shoes to wear, there is a person somewhere who dosnt have feet but you should always want better for yourself

  • @l9ois thats very true you have a good point there

  • Naw it's all bout 1100blk oakdale 3s up nigga from oakdale ta harbor frisco shit ya dig shout out ta sunnydale ma nigga 42 n below sf

  • this is the kinda rap we need.

  • Harlem looks nice in comparison to detroit...

  • pls tell me what the song is in the background ?

  • Come to africa and there hoods is real comparing to harlem circus gangsters. But Africa is struggling to get to the good life in positive way like education.

  • why do they call projects project?

  • i know right? & u coward ass crackas who dont even speak "proper" english & get on a computer & get BOLD to say somethin u KNOW in life u would NEVA say in person is a SHAME how u call yoself a "man"?

  • im telling you look it up or something. eastern europe is considered mostly a collection of 3rd world countries. i didnt use to know that either til someone put me on. i thought all of europe was like england and shit. 3rd world countries=extreme poverty.

  • @Gryphus89 dats da SAME video they showed on pbs da otha night! & gyeah dats in da COUNTRYSIDE(but they call dat shit somethin else cant rememba) but da "city" AINT like dat

  • @Gryphus89 naw NO slums they just showed a documentary on da "economic woes" in eastern europe on pbs da otha night & they was showin how in da "rural" areas there is poverty stricken areas but in city cores there is NO "slums" per se` idk what u heard but i aint NEVA seen none shit i be on them eastern europe videos on youtube & them AINT no "slums" "ghettoes" or "hoods" it look just like this video here to be honest but da only difference is its white ppl instead of us niggaz

  • at 0:10 - 0:15 thats my hood rite derr thats mad ave niggas 108 st das

  • i agree wit wrenchaholic, but miami is starting to look shitier and more ghetto but at least its got somethin besides the same lookin shit buildings

  • miami sucks dick

  • my cousin just moved to liberty heights...

  • fuck

  • i've seen the burned buildings in the Bronx, i'm from a safe city on the east coast of Canada and it made me realize how good I have it here.

  • @ghostgrabber Yes I live in TO. I could not imagine living in areas like that. We are very fortunate indeed.

  • @ghostgrabber and bro new yorkers are all fighters, even if in safe neighborhoods, you give people just a dirty look their coming after you, at least out of nyc the 5 boroughs which has madd neighborhodds in them i say theirs at least 4-5 neighborhoods left that are safe.

  • What is the name of the song?

  • immortal technique- harlem streets

  • NYC one of da best basketball citys ever

  • yo stop yall complain we all new yorkers. you all sound like pussys, We are known for being tough as fuck people but you are all complaning. and i mean compared to what it was then and what it is now new york aint as bad as it use to be i mean we went from like 1,000 muders a year to like 500, but dat don't mean da crime and ghettos aint gone. most of da city beside midtown manhattan, still looks like a shit whole and yes i still be hear drive bys at night and people get shot near my house

  • @sk8er4lif3777 over 2,00 homocides....i cant tell you too are a kid, you werent alive for when this city was thorough, you young kids these days are fuckin soft.

  • song and artist any1? stayin in harlem in july, cnt wait

  • what are those X shaped buildings called?..

  • witch is the name of the rappers and the title of both song if you like it

  • This may sound like a dumb question but how does public housing work in the states? is it owned privately and then the owner gets government subsidies or is the entire complex owned by the city or state?

  • most of the public housing is owned by the ciy itselt , called New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)

  • its owned by the state and they subsidize it or it cant be owned by a landlord which is section 8 approved u pay 30 percent of ur income the government pays the rest

  • ROFL @ you trying to say that western european housing estates are more dangerous than the ghettos of the US. You know no one has guns here right?

  • NYC wuz ruff in 70s 80s and also in early 90s...things change isnt ruff anymore like it was...80s'' south bronx looked like third world..erything ruined..but..now you got ruff places in philly detroit jersey..indiana gary, baltimore.east st louis thiz towns and they almost look like bronx in the 80s.NOT EXACTLY but preety the same some areas...and oh yeah...NY RAP!..nowadays in 00s is wack as fuck..it dont got dat NY touch no more..rappers from NY makin dat southern bull...fuckd up

  • the thing with the rappers... I guees you know the wrong commerical rappers. look into the underground scene and you will get finest reality rap

  • yes i know..but anyway...im listenin alot on NY rap..matta fact the whole eastcoast is mad...most of underground scene in ny is from QB..you got few cats from there that are keepin it real and all dat...but def..NY rap aint what it used to be ''grimmy & gritty''...its all about bling bling era nowadays

  • well yeah that commercial rappers. yeah ppl in QB holding it down but , check songs like , St.Laz - Starve the ghetto , or A Fella - new year , K-Gutta - Can't help it .. I could name you way way more just a little taste , this dudes just arent known that much but spittin fire and from around the whole city. but too many ppl listen to the radio crap and thats what you call bling bling too bad but true , they real rap is mosty unknown.

  • word will check dat out...yea its sad..its crazy how dat southern crank bull..affectin the US..fuck..back then...south was aight..in the 90s was like..half rappers from south were makin eastcoast reconizable music'' and half of them kinda westcoast..it was mixed up somehow..for example..geto boys..damn they were dope...they were not typical westcoast g funk blabbn gangsta shit..they were unique..with also sum political theme..etc..

  • word , the southern rap just destroys our hip hop.... look at soulja boy faggot or all this other crappy stuff to dance to with some brainless none sense rymed lyrics.... or lil wayne that faggot ... can't believe that there are ppl out there claiming best rapper alive with his baby face and voice lollypop crapshit for girls ... but this fags get the money for some reason... and the real shit out of the hoods gets nothing , thats why too many rappers go commercial to get the money. sad

  • yes times are changin..:S..90s was the best..almost erything was in the place...nice locked..and nowadays dis commercial bull spreadin lika virus..i think internet got here alotta guilt also...and dis globalization..

  • naw nigga dont say "southern" rap u SINGLE mufuckas out dont blanket statement da WHOLE SOUTH nigga cuh MOST of us DONT listen to dat LAME ass shit listen to T-ROCk - SOUTH ATLANTA(REAL SOUTH HIP HOP)

  • @FreakyLGrimeeRappuh its not a matter of est or wst its a matter of ignorance mixed with corporate greed...and it makes modern day hip-hop....main stream hip-hop is dead

  • I gotta listen to that ignorant rap music? It show Harlem hasn.t change. Same type of people except when I grew up there it was mostly white.

  • Tear em down! Make em pay taxes!

  • shit guys I live across the world in Italy but also from us and so I would be happy but you definitely another world and new friends ... everywhere and hard fuckin life ... if you do not have money do not do shit and I do the streets and I kick ass for a bit of cash ... respect ...

  • queensbridge born/raised, thank god i left

  • Ohhh mann love harlem born and raised there but harlem and bronx 4 ever

  • I remember someone who lived in America in the 60s and referring to the word HOUSING PROJECTS, as if it was a illness. To some it must be or might be, but i would say its in there head. Others would have you thinking that all americans should be living in a JR Uwing type house or do. And dose on this think they should also. JR and that way of living in the big house is a bollock-s.

  • 1:53 hahahaha

  • HOME SWEET HOME but you should of played "jim jones - harlem"

    HARLEM STAND UP!!!!!

  • NYC REPRESENT

  • nuke it all.

  • da bronx has

  • immortal technique is fuckin the shit son

  • are there really soooo many public houses in harlem? must be in whole NYC not just harlem alone

  • no thats really just Harlem

  • sure? I didn't knew that harlem is so large, or have you took more than 1 pic of a building of a house in a different view? or is every pic one house/block?

    by the way great vid
