The code is unwritten rules that have been passed down from hockey players from different generations to preserve order in the game. Ulf broke these code rules regularly to benefit him and the team, which is why he was one of the most hated players in the NHL. Specific examples include, faking injuries, intent to injure players, diving. Ulf performed these acts on a regular basis, but toned it down later in his career. There are many example of this on Youtube. Do a search.
Nah. And I who thought that you ahd something going on here, but you are just one of those that keep on rambling about how he tried to injure other players. *yawn* That is getting old and boring my friend. Oh and no, tehre are not all taht many examples on youtube. Especially considered taht he played 18 season in hte NHL. To specify: There are zero examples of him trying to injure other players, there are 1-2 examples where it's dicussable if he dived or not.
Don't believe me? Direct quote from Mike Modano "His job is to hurt people." NHL players believed he intended to injure and so do I. Do you think it's he checked players knees by accident?
There are a few examples where he played a bit dirty (something we all love him for :D ). I'd say that when it comes to playing dirty he is lightyears behind players like Domi, McSorly, Brad May etc etc.
Fans and players unanimously hated him for the reasons I stated. You can argue your points, but it's not going to change many people's opinions on him. He was voted as the most hated player in the NHL many times during his career.
Who are you refering when you say "we"? Ulf and yourself? You live in Sweden, so maybe you're his nephew or something. Who knows. You spend a lot of your time defending the guy. Talking about Ulfie get's old anyway since he's long retired. What do you think of Avery's play? Do you like him? If I could have a FIKA with you and talk about it with a nice glass of JULMUST I would.Hej då.
Avery and Ulf have a very different playing style and temper. I don't see many similarities. Can't say I'm very fond of him - but I don't know all that much about him either since I don't follow the NHL as much as I used to.
The "we" is swedes. Ulf is very much liked in Sweden. My favorite swedish defensmen are ofc Börje Salming, Niklas Lidström and Kenny Jönsson - in that order.
I hate Julmust . It taste like coca cola (no swede would agree with me though lol), but Julmust is the main reason that coke don't sell during christmas and for that I will like it some! ;)
Fika is something I try to do as many times a day as I can and you are welcome to join me some day.
Really? Ulf's a yank now, y'know. From what little I know about Ulf, he lives in NJ and is now a full-fledged American citizen. I think he was kicked off Sweden's national team in Nagano because he has an American passport. Seems to me he's made a good life in the USA. I wonder why he chose to live in U.S and not Sweden?
Yup. He had two passports and swedish rules are that you are only allowed to have one. A swedish journalist found out about that witch lead to that he got kicked out of the Olympics in Nagano. I think he still have two passports though.
@bludika the best cheapshot artist with 2 stanley cups and a member of the Penguins All-Time Team! Associate Coach for the Coyotes together with "The Great One"... He played over ten years in the NHL in clubs like Rangers, Penguins and Flyers so yeah... he's only a "cheapshot artist"! Learn your history and get your facts right before you throw your stones in your little glas-house!

Why?
Skrangelben 2 years ago
Because of the lack of respect he had for the code.
chrisconnell 2 years ago
Ah I think that we are getting close here for why so many transatlantic goones dislike Ulf so much. Please tell us all what that "code" is.

All these players answered the bell and didn't shy away from visors, or teamates. Again, you are wondering why players hated him, this is the reason!
chrisconnell 2 years ago
I don't get that. What's so bad with having a visor? It's such a retarded opinion.
Skrangelben 2 years ago
It's because you don't understand the code.
chrisconnell 2 years ago
LoL
If the code is that ya shall not wear visor I'm happy for everybody that don't follow your "code"

It's quite ironic that his son started college in Boston - the same city (k)Neely played in. If I where Ulfs son I wouldn't brag about that! ;)
I think he chose to live in USA because he likes to live in hte U.S and have made a good life there, just like you said.

@chrisconnell he earns more money in US than in Sweden plus he has settled in the american way I guess.
