Gotta laugh at Stan putting his hands on Vince and seeing Vince's facial expression when Stan says what he's gonna do to Backlund in a cage. I have a Hansen Shoot Int, and he said that while he was in WWF, Vince was the guy he prolly got along with the best. Also said that Vince opened the opportunity to come back to WWF around 1990 after Stan filled in for Gordy for a match with Hogan in Japan, but said he just had too sweet a deal in Japan to leave. Woulda been weird seeing Stan in WWF in 1990

@Rayla840 Interestingly, between 1976 and 1990, Stan had an opportunity to cut a deal with WWF every four or five years. In March ’76, Mike Padosis, who was a friend of Bruno’s, said to him, “Stan, I’m going to ask WWWF to let you be Bruno’s opponent in New York if you’re interested.” Stan said, “I’d love to.” Padisis gave him a piece of paper with Bruno’s home number in it. In March ’81, Stan got into a feud with Backlund, because back then, NJPW established a substantial relationship with WWF.

In ’85, WWF was looking for Hogan’s opponent and trying to put Stan in that position. He was just serious about it, but didn’t reach an agreement. Back then, AJPW was focusing the spotlight on fewer and fewer gaijins, because actually they wanted more Japanese feuds. And in ’90, what you exactly mentioned went down to him. This year in 2010, Stan got something to do for Vince for the first time in twenty years: Antonio Inoki’s HOF inductor.

Hansen said in a shoot interview that he and Vince were pretty good friends. He said Vince was 1 of the few guys he could actually talk to and hang out with and have a good time. Stan was much more successful in Japan rather than in the US, but I love him in NWA, WWF, and AWA as well. When they broke into wrestling business, Stan and Backlund were trained in Amarillo,TX by the Funks, Dory and Terry and they became good friends. And you know what is common between Stan and Freddie Blassie? Both of them have a Japanese wife.

Backlund and Hansen wrestled 3 times at the Garden and the last one was a classic cage bloodbath. The last TV taping before the cage was a Backlund run in he drop kicked Hansen a few times but I think ended up getting tied upside in the corner and getting stomped.

Stan Hansen was my favorite wrestler of all time. I wish he had spent more time wrestling in the US rather than Japan. I loved watching him in the AWA and WCW in the mid 80's to early 90s.

Nothing went down between Hansen and Backlund because of Bruno. Bruno was hurt by accident. Also Bruno and Backlund were not close at all. Bruno LOVED Billy Graham in real life actually and hated the fact that Graham had to drop to Backlund.

Check out WWE's Greatest Cage Matches DVD for the match Hansen was building up to. It's a great one, due entirely to Hansen's talent. He carried Backlund in this match.
