  • i think bringing shinkansen tech to the usa would significantly improve american railways

  • @5Oblivion I strongly agree with this. I always wondered what a Shinkansen would look like on the Northeast Corridor. We might not be able to run it at full speed because there is a 150 mph limit for high speed rail in North America.

But this just proves our dependency on foreign technology. Why can we as Americans learn from others to create our own technology rather than have others do it for us?

  • @rodman1993 there's a high speed rail plan to build a separate track to run high-speed only trains but the funding's not even there

  • @Mr55330 What are you talking about? Tseperi rail option is without electric drive, but propeller propulsion. Not regular train and can't transport any passengers.

And shinkansen is the first high speed rail as a regular train.

Shinkansen ran with 443km/h at test.

And the operation speed of Tokaido shinkansen and Tohoku shinkansen is 300km/h now.

In addition to that, operation speed of Tohoku shinkansen will be 320km/h in 2014.

  • wowo

  • he speak nonsense because the TGV running with with max 574 km at test and The german ICE is runung 330 km so the fast train is inventet in europe not in japan , and the bullet train inventet in japan ist inventet in 1964 but in german in 1930 see Railzepelin train runung with 230 km and ist with the same form like the japan bullet train inventet in 1964 so the japan bullet train ist copie of the germen reilzepelin Hhahaha

  • haha.... scott westerfels's extras!!! :D thts awesome

  • 300km/h is not faster than the french TGV's traffic speed....That said ,Shinkansen looks much prettier designed than the TGV...

  • Would be cool if also 500 series were available.

  • WOuld be cool if USA was the first "Western" shinkansen.

  • tgv is uncomfortable but cheaper than shinkansen.

  • This train is so ugly!

  • @TE9994 yea but its fast tho

  • Nice to know there has been no fatality since its birth in 1964.

  • a high speed railway project in the US?

Where will they ge the money....They are preparing to send ground troops to libya isnt it and they are giving free money to pakistan

  • @RobertsDigital "high speed railway project in the US? Where will they ge the money"

They are using the Japanese high speed rail in Taiwan also and only after 5 years of operation they are making a profit.

  • TGV record is 574. Latest AGV can travel with operation speed of 360 km/h :)

  • Since Japan lost power, Japan should bring some of the Shinkansen to America, and then America will bring the MP36PH-3c and Bombardier bilevel coach cars to Japan. they may have to operate their train by diesel since the power plant has been destroyed.

  • GO JAPAN, BRING THE SHINKANSEN TO THE UNITED STATES.

  • @thunderdragon14 they can't now because they lost power and suspended their service, because their nuclear power plant meltdown so were going have to bring the MP36PH-3C diesel Locomotive to Japan to pull their trainset since they would loose power.

  • Wow DC to NYC in 70 minutes thats insane. I rode the KTX in south korea. Seoul to Daegu in like 80minutes (its similar distance). It's an enjoyable ride too. It's 10x better than airplanes and cheaper. Its hilarious how outdated our railway system is.

I didn't even know the acela was a "high-speed train" until today. read an article about it... lol that trains sooo slow.

  • We need to upgrade our infastructure so that we can have a line devoted to these highest speed trains. The slower trains can run on their own lines. The northeast corridor is multiple tracked. Invest the money in upgrades and we can enjoy the best trains here too! Folks should check out NARP website at narprail.org. National Association of Railroad Passengers.

  • Acela is powered by power cars. An obvious concern for the USA's Federal Railway Administration is the use of multiple-unit trains in the event of a collision. Since we use 100-year-old mainlines we share our tracks with much slower trains, so our requirements are not the same as they are in the ideal Shinkansen (and similar European) dedicated track environment.

  • I was a little concerned about electric multiple unit high speed trains (German ICE 3, N700 Shinkansen,etc.). In the front end cars where you can see the driver at the controls through a glass door. How can we protect the driver from having his train being hijacked by terroists?

  • @Trainmaster189 I don't think you can see the driver on Shinkansen trains. The driver has his/her own separate cabin that is only accessible by a special door next to the passenger doors.

  • Yeah it's really easy to have a safe train when it's on a dedicated track with no road crossing and it doesn't have to mix or even cross with local train or freight traffic !!

  • why couldn't obama spend our taxmoney on this, versus giving all of the unemployed incompetents a stimulus that cost 1.4 trillion dollars. This is would bring so much more economic growth.

  • It's the 21st century already! Bring these trains to US!

  • That will most likely be the Acela II train.

  • I hope they go through with this! ditch regional trains make Acelas the new Regional and these N-700 bullet trains the new express trains.. oh and please whoevers int he government. STOP WASTEING OUR DAM MONEY ON THINGS WE DONT NEED. We need a better rail system not more air craft carriers and useless other things!

  • @jeffdarga1 It's got the money! It just needs to stop fighting illegal wars and stop spending ridiculous amounts of money on new aircraft carriers. I mean, 11 carrier groups!??! That's expensive. Get rid of two, and then the US can afford a world class railway system!

  • A lot of dreaming and not enough doing.

  • Shinkansen must not crush with a car because Shinkansen's railroad is surrounded by the wall.

    It also has no crossing.

So, it's no problem for US to use Shinkansen technology.

  • omg i wish they would starrt this now, it woulds spread like wild fire , i can see it now, trains connecting every US city, i refuse to fly, this would be great for people like me lol

  • Shinkansen is probably the safest train ever.

and they are ALWAYS on time

  • @tak0242424

i think it's not the train who is on time but the traindriver who is skilled.

  • @ryuusanosuke uhhhh, no shit?

  • @N2B814

yep, i swear. even if it's hard to believe for you.

  • @tak0242424 the national average of train delays is only around 10 secs!

  • @tak0242424 I'm always telling people.

Shinkansens ARE the Safest trains in the world.

  • Shinkansen will never make it into USA, because Shinkansen is designed for

dedicated track, and therefore not designed to be crash worthy.

It is likely that US high speed train must run on conventional lines also,

and will have at level crossing, which require strick crash safety features.

It is therefore morelikely for either TGV or ICE derived HSR will end up on

    US soil.

and also, Bombadier has significant sway in USA for some reason.

another reason why Shinkansen will have difficult fight.

  • @simhopp I hope you understand that Shinkansen are Standaard gauche, which means that TGV and ICE trains can run on Shinkansen

Only the regional tracks in Japan where normal japanese trains runs on are smaller, thats why Shinkansen trains runs on dedicated tracks.

  • europe and asia will always be far ahead of usa with trains.

  • @lovestwospooch it's ok. We have everything else :D

  • @lovestwospooch once it happens I disagree. Once all Americans get a taste of it the high speed railways will take off

  • Upgrade to Acela (?)

  • Shinkansen can run over 400km/h.

But, Shinkansen can't run over 330km/h IN Japan because of the noise.

  • @JapaneseTrain

Noise restrictions makes the Tokaido shinkansen line have a max speed of 270km/h and sanyo shinkansen line up to 300 km/h, the N700 in sanyo shinkansen line goes up to 300 km/h and it's max speed is 330km/h.

the 500 series did also run @ 300km/h in the same line as Nozomi service but it's max speed surpasses the 350km/h.

the 500W900 test series did go over 350km/h in a shinkansen line for test purposes.

  • @JapaneseTrain To say exactly, noise of the shinkansens are always lower than other high speed rails, but very strict regulation of noise pollution prevents high speed operations. Unique Shape of nose and pantagraph or pantagraph covers are evoluted to meet these strict regulations.

  • @JapaneseTrain 400kmh is the prototype speed like the "TGV pos" with agv motor( this special tgv train can run at 570kmh. )

in fact the maximum speed train in japon is 300kmh. the fastest train for the moment is in France at 320kmh.

  • I can imagine the ahinkansen with amtrak paints and decals on it :D

  • news guy looks like obama

  • What? 330km/h? ICE3 (German) trains run at 350km/h regular service in China between Beijing and Tianjin...

  • its speed can get to the double of that. what happens here is that the japaneses are very cuatious. thats why they put a limit or speed governer. but that thing can reach up to 700 km/h...

  • Rubbish lol! It is 330km/h only.I rode it before so I know about that.

  • Perhaps that time it ran at 330km/h. 350km/h is a regular service speed at newly opened Wugan-Guagzhou and Beijing-Tianjin lines.

  • Wugan-Guagzhou??? Are you sure??

  • amtrak sucks so hard. us public transport sucks balls.

  • the time might come when the Bombarder will beat the TGV and the Shinkansen

  • Bombardier HSTs sucks.

  • The U.S. was talking about a train going 300+ m.p.h. between L.A and NY. I might think about taking the train at that speed they are talking about.

  • Comment removed

  • talking about the National Express HSR?

  • your talking about the supertrain, supertrain was just the TV show.

  • that'll take about ten hours

  • @JUKIO01 But it would be more fun.

  • I reckon USA should get the ICE 3 or Velaro E (AVE S-103) or the AGV =)

  • No! They should run both Velaro of Siemens and the Shinkansen. That will be the fair suggestion. Besides the Velaro can run on conventional tracks lol but the Shinkansen must get extra tracks.

  • Velaro and Shinkansen run both on standart gauche

  • Bravo! About time Amtrak gets an upgrade. This better go through.
