Ralph Fiennes is a phenomenal actor. His interpretation of Goeth was not just another stereotypical one-dimensional caricature of an S.S officer. Honestly, when I saw this film, I was instantly drawn to this character. I hated him, feared him, pitied him and wanted him all at the same time.His performance gave me a real sense of just how truly psychotic those who served Hitler must have been. Unforgettable performance.

I was totally and completely blown away by fiennes' acting in this movie. The way in which he, as goeth, manges to kind of attract the audience and later repulse them with greater force is remarkable. My friends and constantly disagree on this, but i thought fiennes' goth was waaay more FRIGHTENING than christoph waltz's landa ( though landa was a creepy dude as well)
I agree that Fiennes definitely should have won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar that year. It was a brilliantly crafted and masterful performance. It is one of the best and most meaningful movies ever made to date, and will remain so to stand the test of time as a cinema classic.

His entire persona and look in the film made me wish I was him. he was very suave and sophisticated, yet had a bad side to him. it was very cool. and yes, the real Amon Goeth was pretty fat, and had a scruffy looking face, but Ralph Fiennes just looked stunning with his SS uniform and his perfectly tapered Nazi haircut. I love this film and this actor (in a non sexual way) :P

This might be a stupid question bear with me since I am foreign. But how can the Germans tell who is Jewish and who is NOT Jewish!? To me Jewish people seem to be like anyone else in physical appearance (I know the movie is black and white)! What physical trait gives away the Jewish ethnicity!? How do you know who is Jew!? Most Jews, especially at that time, lived in close communities because Orthodox Jews are expected to walk to Synagog on Shabbos. The Nazis first had the Jews register officially to let the government know who was who, then came the arm bands to publicly mark them, then came the ghettos. It isn't really about appearance, but finding out who was Jewish was not difficult for the Nazis.

Moreover, when he was invited to a Jewish restaurant in Cracow, he said he won't come in, because he couldn't. I'm thankful to him for playing this role - the film tells a story of my country and maybe he encouraged some people to find out more about the history.

Spielberg also wanted to show through this character that some Nazis at the end of the war, especially those responsible in the concentration camps or extermination, sometimes expressed publicly that they were saturated with this horror, but they were prisoners of their own commitment. Mengele was also expressed in Auschwitz.
