It's not the voice that makes them work, even though they are virtually spot on. It's the fact that he nails their personalities as well. Usually, impressionists base the bit on the premise that the character says things you usually wouldn't catch them saying, just uses the voice. He actually gets the humor and style of the people he "does." Incredible.
