  • Wow! Thanks for sharing, this is Varadero, and the restaurant is at the Kawama resort there. Our family used to vacation in Varadero every summer before Castro took over. The latter part is at Trinidad, a small town preserved as a colonial town, kind of a museum city.

  • @boopkid Thank you!. Do you recognize the houses they flew over at 4:31 and 6:01? I am hoping one was Batista's...

  • What is the name of the restaurant? My father may be able to help here

  • The lighthouse is off Icacos peninsula (Varadero) I went there in the summer of 1960!

  • @eltessy Thanks! Is that at 2:22?

  • @ 1:25 is 100% sure the Beachside-Restaurant-Terrace of the Hotel Kawama in Varadero!

  • Fantastic. Thank you!

  • yes they are both!!

  • At 3:41 to 3:48, the fence at trinidad plaza mayor can be seen.

  • Wonderful! What town is that in? Trinidad? Are both segments from there?

  • Between 3:38 and 3:40, the San Francisco de Asis tower can be seen.

  • Thank you for this wonderful video! Great to see a piece of history!

  • very good . Just to have such an old video of this kind is wonderfull ,too bad wasn't clear .

On the other hand have to think that back then technology was not as good as now day.

    Thank you for sharing

  • The Valle Yumuri appears at 6:53. It is a valley with groves of Royal Palms, Cuba's national tree. The sand in Varadero is the finest and whitest I've ever seen, the waters are glass clear. The mountains you see during the Trinidad sequence are the Escambray mountain range in central Cuba. The house you see may be millionairess Irene Dupont's home in Varadero. The pictures are not clear enough to really confirm it. Any case, It was the most famous house in Varadero.

  • Thank you for sharing this with us. I was born in Cuba, and before Castro, our family would vacation in Varadero every summer, the images brought wonderful bittersweet memories of my childhood. There is no beach like Varadero! I could see the historic colonial town of Trinidad and the Valle Yumuri in the Matanzas provice towards the end of the film. I hope this helps.

  • Wonderful. I have been very curious about this footage so I am glad someone who has been there or lived there like you, can help identify some of those scenes!

At what point do we see Valle Yumuri? 3:17? 4:00? 4:21?

I want to think that is (one of) Castro's or Batista's house(s) that they fly over at 4:31.

(I am sorry the footage isn't better..)
