She loves to read primary history, books that were either written by, or contain the writings of, people who actually lived during the period. Some people that have the flag and don't know the history of it are racist but the flag itself, although associated with racism, isn't necessarily about racism. If anything, the south has less racists than the north. Im from Missouri (a southern state) and go up north for alot of trips. I grew up with blacks and and have no problem with them because there are still FAR more blacks in former slave states. Up north there seem to be alot of racists because theyre not around blacks and not used to them.

I'm from the South and I'm Black, and trust me no Black person who knows the real history behind that flag uses it to represent Southern pride. When you see that flag you try to go in the other direction. Some people who carry that flag aren't (or don't appear) to be racist, but most of them are. And just because you performed in a bar with confederate flags and they liked your act doesn't mean they liked you. The flag represents all of what you said, but it also represents hatred.

There where not 13 southern states that supported the CSA. Here are some fun facts, the county that this kids goes to school in has a town called Hilton Head . This was one of the richest parts of the state, land over there goes for more than any other place in the state .. And most of it was stolen from black people . She loves to read primary history, books that were either written by, or contain the writings of, people who actually lived during the period. If you think the South was all about slavery, you need a history lesson. Racism is wrong, Slavery is wrong, but having pride in the history that makes you what you are today is not. We supported an instituion that was still common in dozens of countries 50 years AFTER we ended slavery we were hardly alone in our beliefs.

There were black confederate soldiers as well and the confederacy wanted to succeed from the union. Some people that have the flag and don't know the history of it are racist but the flag itself, although associated with racism, isn't necessarily about racism. Also, people shouldn't forget that the north wasn't so kind to minorities either.

@Greyfox404 as a matter of fact, it was a war similar in nature to the American Revolution, a fight for the right to slaves (that just about everyone had towards the Revolution) if they so chose, as well as their independence from the North. I don't necessarily support the cause, slavery is wrong, no doubt, and I think we should have remained as we were. But you are putting out the wrong statements bro, you need to pay attention in History Class.

@kazooga1234 What they teach you in school is not always right. The flag simply means pride now. You're talking about the meaning of the flag back in 1861. Now the South is equal and fair. I know plenty of guys who hang confederate flags and got black friends. It simply doesn't mean that the flags meaning is to promote racism and slavery NOW, maybe back then but not today.

@Greyfox404 It was a fight to protect the way of life, not everyone fought to keep slavery going. They fought for rights to something they were allowed to have since day one, and then people tried to take it away. As a matter of fact, near half of the states in the Confederacy didn't support slavery. They fought for the fact that people should have the right they were given if they so wanted it. Robert E. Lee, the confederate general, didn't believe in slavery, he fought for Virginia

As a human being, I find things that are symbolism for the submission of another human being offensive.
When I see this flag, all I see is the people in the South demanding their right to own slaves. When the United States was divided, the South believed they had the right to their rules; to own people...
As a human being, that is repulsive to me. It's as repulsive as people in other countries that have women forced in submission and claim they have the right to do it in their own country..
