Johnny Marr is a great guitarist, and he's got some interesting things to say... but please, Fender, do better at editing your videos. Seriously, this was irritating.
its like so unenlightened. all that music that they try to hanng their'youth cult' off of is better off wityhout them and otis redding and all that great musiicianship never was interested in a an outmoded scooter and modernist sensibilities from 30 years ago. that all existed without needing it. the smiths were creative and nothing to do with mod culture and would have laughed at it at the time. since when has jonnymar had anything to do with being a mod anyway?
Anyway he's basically saying that like the guitar tones he grew up with in the sixties rather than the ones he had to deal with in teh mid to late seventies. So yeah. Whatever.
they claim that its about the music but its so narrow and afraid. i hate my friends who after 10-20 years of being inteligent fell into the mod thing im appalled that they did that. like 10 years after i grew out of it.
funny rock and roll when it gets near mods is what im averse to and i dont like the metal culture either im an english man and i cant beleive englishman can be so short sighted. its likesuch a retrogressive step back from jimihendrix and the cream and intelligent music. soul is great everything from blues of the 50s to motown, stax funk up to 72 its all so many million miles more imaginative than the childish mod scooter thing.
It's incridibly creative : in only one song, he put so many ideas than just one could have been used by a common songwriter ...and now he is a common songwriter...
Just one little riff like in The Cribs - We Share The Same Skies - a good one but not a stunning one
look video "william" and this one at 6.20
The Smiths - In the Studio (BBC Whistle Test 1985) on youtube
but i don't understand why he doesn't write a good melody anymore ...maybe he can't....
he looks like he does not know how to play guitar any more as he played before...look for example at 5:00...and it's sad because everybody can play loud powerchords
what song does he play at 4.27??? Awesome riff!

i love the little fist punch he does when he says 'i like attitude'. Got to love Johnny Marr. Top guitarist. Great songwriter. Legend.

Most underrated guitarist in rock history. He makes this rig sound like 2 or 3 guitars overdubbed.
