I couldn't think of one with three syllables, no. The usual pathetic/lyric way to say that would be 'Leb wohl!', but try stretching that over three notes.
Lovely. Gedda is Olympian! Prey, although in fine form, seems a trifle schmaltz-y and sentimental. Alvaro, it's true, probably shouldn't sound completely sincere here. The voices blend nicely.
@ShawDAMAN tschüssi denn ;) (the German "tschüss" should be a malapropism from the Portuguese "A Deus", which brought the sailors to Hamburg) but i think it is not kitsch enough.
Great video !Do you have more videos of La forza del destino with Gedda?Gedda is fantastic he could sound like a spinto if he wanted .And Prey ... in a class of his own

Mistake--above I wrote Alvaro but meant Don Carlo (the part Prey is singing). Sorry!

nice singing by the greatest tenor ever to live, nicolai gedda, but that ending is a little cheesy--"leb wohl my freund..addio." ha.

Par de genios!! Con esa línea de canto... lo del idioma es lo de menos. Hay más "tuco y pasta" que en la mayoría de versiones de hoy.

Gedda's voice had so many colors.I have a recording of him singing the song 'hotel' by Francis Poulenc and he sounds really like a dramatic baritone.

The Video is from early seventies, the audio was taken from the 1965 recording with Grace Bumbry, conducted by Giuseppe Patané.
