@adguerra9 Typical excuse every guy who has never driven a mustang, especially the new ones says. So what is a leaf spring?Do you mean a truck leafspring or a car leafspring? Because Leafsprings from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's are completely different from the ones today. Did you know many performance cars out there use that setup to save weight, including something called a Corvette zo6:)

@notecages25 and thats exactly why a zo6 gets terrible mechanical grip. its only american muscle "performance cars" that use this. and not even all of them. just the poser ones like the mustang. the zo6 is still a muscle car. the zr1, a real supercar, has adjustable magnetic suspension.

I just wanted to conversate and widen the fact that "Leaf Springs" are very different in 2011 than lets say in 2005. If u ever want to see a stock mustang gt for example try watching "The Smoking Tire" review the 2011 mustang gt by Matt Farrah. He also reviews the GS Corvette. Some people love blue collar horse power, some people love euro status refinement, some love tech savvy import speed. 2 each his own

@notecages25 ive got nothing against american muscle i just prefer it when its done right. used to have a 2006 gto and that defines blue collar horse power while shouting to the world LOOK AT ME with its exhaust note rather than its flashy design. im sorry its not the mustang that bothers me really. its the people who drive them. while on the freeway i used to have people in gt mustangs challenging for races all the time. they wouldnt even try a second time after id dusted them.

@adguerra9 One question: Why didn't Pontiac design the thing's appearance to reflect its raw, monsterous power? And that up on the screen is a Shelby, my GTO friend, not a GT. (I have a GT and that car above makes my weak 300 horses look like some kind of donkey afflicted with the worst kind of cancer.) And I think the muscle Will Smith is flexing up there could give your previous Pontiac a run for its money.

@clericjack mmm a supercharged gto vs a stock gt500... i like my chances. i never dynoed it but im pretty sure i was puttin out more than the 440 that the gt500 puts out with a supercharger already. and as for design. its a matter of taste. some people like overstated flares and scoops for no reason and some enjoy the bare essentials. and to be honest i think a 6.0 gto has a pretty menacing appearance anyways but its much more subtle than a mustang/shelby. its the way old muscle cars were.

@clericjack in the real muscle car golden days the fastest ones were only distinguished by a small badge or a bigger bump in the hood. which is exactly how the gto does it. look at the styling differences of a 5.7 vs a 6.0 gto.

They are just reusing the old name. They didn't call my '03 Mach 1 a Mach 1 because it could do the speed of sound. They called it that because the '69's were called Mach 1's. It's the same with the Shelby's. They didn't call them GT 500's in '68 because they had 500 HP. In fact the '68 GT500KR was only rated at 335 HP.

All cars from the manufacturer are rated at flywheel horsepower, not rear wheel horsepower as you are referring too with 450 hp. So all cars from the manufacturer will have less hp at the rear wheels than is rated at the manufacturer. However, my 2007 GT500 only has X-pipe, mufflers, and a Diablosport programmer and it was dyno'd at 504 hp at the rear wheels, so it doesn't take much to get it to the 500 hp mark.

It is a Shelby GT500, with aftermarket exhaust. The GT500KR has different wheels and a different hood with air inlets in the front, It also has 2 small holes in the lower grill for cooling ducts that lead to the front brakes.

Simple, the dyno measured hp at the wheels.Power is lost through the driveline of all vehicles, so 450hp at the wheels makes sense. But because top gear is too fucking biased towards america they tried to pass it off as crank hp.

BHP measures the power the car makes at the crank. The GT500 DOES make 500 HP, at the ENGINE. By the time it transfers power to the wheels, its usually makes 15% less power. Same for ALL cars.

BHP * .85 = RWHP.

If they read 450 HP to the WHEELS, the engine would truly be making 530 HP, meaning ford actually underrated the car.
