Animal Crossing City Folk is in fact the third animal crossing game. The first Animal Crossing was Animal Crossing the second was Animal Crossing Wild World the third is Animal Crossing City Folk. Wait what did someone say about an animal forest. I've never heard of it before.

City Folk is technically the 4th game. The very first Animal Crossing installment was called 'Animal Forest' and was almost exactly the same as the GameCube version, except for a few minor details, and it wasn't in English. It was on the N64, though.

So to correct you, City Folk is the fourth game in the series.
