It was an issue of language barrier and poor translation...nothing more. The boy did not say that they look like men, but that their uniforms were mannish.

I'm guessing it was language barrier as well. The question might have been something like "Could you comment on how the androgynous look of your uniforms contributes to the style of the band," but it got confused in translation to "...he thinks you look like men."
