Irish dancing should be whatever you want it to be. I know girls who go way out with the makeup and the fashion and I think that takes away from the tradition so I try not to do that. There's also some teachers who make dancers wear so much makeup and wear a certain kind of dress. It really all depends on the school you go to. And while there are some wonderful judges out there who judge dancers based off of skill, there are also some very shallow judges too.
fabulous dancer, really well done!! seriously though who is the dumbass saying it's only 5% skill, they have either never danced in their lives before, or are totally crap and are jealous of truly great dancing. really super job, does anyone know how she placed in this?
I don't see why you're all arguing the authenticity of the dancing style. These types of competitions are about 95% beauty pageant (down to the stupid ass fake wigs) and only about 5% actual skill... and even less tradition.
@KWalsh554 95% percent beauty and 5% actual skill? wow, either you've never done irish dancing before or you did and you were always a TERRIBLE dancer. so why dont we shut the hell up if we dont know shit about what we are talking about?
@KWalsh554 uh. no its not 95% beauty. i go to dance class 2 times a week for 3 hrs each time, and work my butt off so i can be a good dancer. are you even a dancer? no i dont think so. so dont say that dancers are just pretty and have no talent. yes, you do have to make your wig and dress look nice but it doesnt matter that much. its all skill.
shes very good but as an irish dancer myself(living in ireland) i can tell u that this isnt tradtitional irish dancing as in tradititional irish dancing going on your toes is banned not to take anything away from this girl she is still very good but i just had to make that point
@XXIRISHDANCER08XX i think it is safe to say that as time has gone on and dancing techniques have changed, going up on your toes is now a part of actual irish dancing- however, different organizations have different rules; I myself am CLRG so I consider it a definite official part of the traditional dancing now, but that is just my personal point of view =) x
My best friend Siersha and I are Irish dancers. She's at novice prizewinner currently, known as novice purgatory to all of us dancers... It takes forever to move up. We'll both be competing at the American Oireachtas this year; I'm totally stressed about it. Wish us luck! (:
what region are you in!? i wish good luck to both of you :) im an open championship dancer for mid-atlantic region and ive been doing the oireachtas for like 6 years but its no big deal once you get used to it !!! haha
well technically...america never had tradition, just immagrants. america was founded by europeans and mexicans really. everyone who lives here desened from some form of immagrant and is not really "american." american isnt reallya heritage..just a logo
ehh I don't know if you are referring this tune to be the downfall of paris, but it isn't! This tune is called "The Lodge Road" and neither of them is a traditional setdance! They're both non-traditional.
thanks... i actually am still figuring all this out . which is traditional, notraditional and then trying to work out the music. but thank you for telling me anyway!
wow what a beautiful dancer! awesome toes and turnout! but.... I think this is a non-traditional hornpipe. much harder than traditional steps great talent!
I took this with a digital camera at the Dublin Irish festival. I am surprised that it came out as high of a quality as it did. I have another clip that is a full 5 minutes long but I haven't have time to upload it as of yet.
okay I'm having a serious deja vous with the choreography.....random but could you tell me if you know what dance school she's from?

its easy to do that. i can and i am nine and never done lessons and i am a girl as well.that is pips.i have done it before
jonathonbartle 2 years ago
good 4 you.
but
1) if youve never taken lessons, how can you know if you're doing it right?
2)why is your username jonathon if you're a girl
3) just cuz she actually decided 2 do something with her talents and get compliments doesnt give u any right 2 try 2 outshine her.
cuz typing your abi;lities is completey differen then actually performing them

Right.
1. I am not a girl, that was my sister.
2. My name isn't actually Jonathon.
3. She isn't as good as she makes out.
She just hops really :)

She has excellent turnout and keeps her legs crossed. She must be an open champ for sure, because it shows in her carriage.
