  • Someone needs to start a good GSD breeding program. It is very possible to have a GSD who not only meets the standard, but can still work. Max created a versatile working breed with good conformation. Not a dog whose one or the other. We should be striving to breed a dog who can win in the show ring one day, and in the Schutzhund ring the next. If you read the AKC GSD standard, it does NOT call for the extremes we're seeing in the show ring today. The Champion GSDs don't have to look like this.

  • Someone needs to step up to the plate and start really striving to breed a GSD who can not only win championships and meets the AKC standard but also earn titles and win championships in working sports such as Schutzhund and herding. Max created a versatile working dog with good conformation. Not a dog who can only be one or the other. The GSDs seen in show rings today aren't necessary, the standard doesn't require the extremes that AKC show breeders are breeding.

  • I'm not an expert at all of German Shepherds but I've loved them for years and these beautiful creatures do not look right when it come to their back legs. it's sad to see them that way. At the very least they should not be show dogs just loyal pets.

  • This video brings a tear to my eye. It is not fair to make these dogs suffer. If dogs were all working dogs like they used to be this never would have happened.

  • I could tell something was wrong with the way he was walking even before I read the description and I found it deeply disturbing. Now that I know the context, it certainly put a face on the claims against some of the breeding for show lines I've been hearing about. It really needs to have something done about it. We shouldn't be rewarding unhealthy dogs and irresponsible breeding. There is no replacement for good breeding, which is what representatives of the breed should exemplify.

  • I don't care who is "right" in this arguement. The only thing I know is that my beloved pet GSD who just happens to have a LOT of champions through both sides of his pedigree is dying. By 7 months old, he already had hip dysplasia even though the parents were OFA certified. We learned to deal with that and he's had a good half of a life. Too bad he's only 5. Hip dysplasia is a non issue now that he has degenerative myelopathy... Champion Blood = Death Sentence!

  • @jgray842 Just keep in mind that hip dysplasia didn't even exist in GSDs until after all the BYB breeders started breeding them like nuts (especially after Rin Tin Tin) resulting thousands of GSDs with poor temperaments and extremely bad genetic diseases.

  • breeders make the dogs sick. Look at the English Bulldogs, King Charles Spaniels, Boston Terriers ect. All messed up. In Holland they want to forbid more than 5 dog breeds because of their poor health.

  • i have to say that these dogs are in what is called a "conformation" class-

the "show" conformation dog is crooked in the hock and deformed. The German Working Dog LInes do not have the deformity that we are seeing here-

That is the problem-A working dog would never place in a Conformation class-

This is why I am trying to get a well structured dog with sensational temperment in order to improve the breed-these dogs are painful to watch-they look like they are in pain-

  • WoW, you know I have a GS, but he`s normal and I wouldn`t tolerate something like this to happen to the breed...it would just ruin it

  • @HiruMihnea It HAS already happened and the breed HAS been ruined by it ='(. And it's sad that it's not even just this breed that is suffering, either. Just look at the poor Bull Terriers and Bulldogs! And the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels' skulls are now so small that their brains can't even fit inside them properly ='(!

  • total disgrace what people are doing to these beautiful animals. Seriously breaking their poor backs and legs for some stupid dog show

  • Look @ 00:20 - see how the dog pulls at the lead, head darting around, unfocused, ears back, lacking confidence and poise, looks skittish and nervous. That is as much of an abomination as the ridiculous leg formation. What a travesty.

  • You all are talking 'AKC' and 'Champions' and how the AKC showdogs are cripple. Correct me if I am wrong but this video is of the 'German' style dogs..... To the person who says they would take a pet over a showdog anytime....I have sound, healthy showdogs who are my pets first.... People need to do their homework before offering knowledge that isn't entirely correct....

  • @aligsd

You asked to be corrected if you are wrong...

    Well...

The German show GSD lines are just as crippled as the American, English and the rest of the world at this point.

I am not surprised to see you making a stand FOR show dog breeding since you are admittedly a show dog person. So it is in YOUR best interest to let these atrocities go on so you can get your little ribbons to show your neighbors.

If you own a GSD that does not have a STRAIGHT back then you are a part of the problem.

  • @aligsd Well if your dogs are as healthy as you say they are then shut your mouth and post a video of them doing the job for wich they were made: to be a shepherd. All the showroom lines of GSD are crippled. They sure don't look anything like rin tin tin. That dog sure could do his work and that is how the breed had to look so it could work. The crippeld show room GS can at best hardly walk so it is imposible for them to do anything that a dog like rin tin tin could do.

  • @NEBESHIKU Rin TIn TIn <333

  • @aligsd why don't YOU do your homework, ignoramus. it is a fact that dogs suffering from disabling, crippling, severe diseases have won shows in the past. this is wrong because it encourages the breeding of serious genetic diseases. in future, please do your research before posting your astonishingly ignorant comments on youtube.

  • I bought my GSD from a breeder here in Canada who refuses to have anything to do with US lines. His dogs are all from German lines that reject this type of breeding. My boy looks like a GSD from 1960 - but is 100% pure, healthy, and sound.

  • @oopik What breeder is that? :D Looking for a good foundation dog for my breeding program.

    Thanks!

  • wow really, you would think the AKC wouldn't allow a dog in that was crippled much less reward it

  • this is so fucking sad, i want to kill these fucking breeders

  • @thehomefront

I agree... Unfortunately this breed is not the only one suffering. The AKC and the Kennel Club have been destroying breeds since day one. The laundry list of problems pedigree dogs are suffering from is staggering. We all need to make a stand and make it stop!

Not by attacking people who are actually trying to help... But by educating people and by NOT purchasing dogs which are AKC or Kennel Club registered.

Being a keyboard warrior does nothing. We need to DO something about it

  • @MandyLionWWIII I have known some amazing working dogs that were AKC registered. AKC isn't the problem, it's important to know who your getting your dog from no matter what it's registered with and important to support breeders that are breeding to the true standard and not some exagerated version of it.

  • This is sad and disgusting! and these are the dogs that win, the ones with the deformed legs and backs. So sad.

  • Unfortunately they destroyed one of the greatest, if not the greatest breed ever.

I am considering going to Germany to get a working-line German Shepherd and a Rottweiler. Obviously there are other things I need to consider before.

    . I'm from Australia.

  • Its disgusting what has been done to those animals.

  • Thanks for informing people. I'll take a dog as a pet rather than a show dog any day,
