  • this guy is so cool he could walk to the isle of wight

  • :) i still have cassette with this recording <3

  • david bowie - that's all i got..

  • Give a listen to the half acoustic/half synthesizer version of "Heroes" from "Farm Aid 1" released about 10 years ago. It is better than this version (imo), if that is possible? It might be available on ITunes. If it is, it is way worth picking it up.

  • Cool as it gets!...

  • Lack of David Bowie is why Live 8 sucked.

  • This is the best version of Heroes I've ever seen.

  • I love this, Bowie and Queen were true highlights of Live Aid.

  • It truely was an amazing concert and leonoel42 has got it spot on, although Phil Collins and Concorde was a nice touch. But one of the most outstanding things for me was as we were leaving the pitch after the concert the tunnels and stands just erupted with "Feed the world". Everyone just started signing, one of the most moving & memorable experiences of my life. it was good to be part of it...

  • grazie Duca.......

  • Look at what you had at Live Aid: David Bowie, Queen, U2, Duran Duran, Simple Minds too many others to mention. Who do we have now to compare? Something is very wrong with the music industry as it currently stands, that's all I'm sayiing...

  • @JRHartly1984 i agree totally its everyman and a computer these days .....live music has died a death and if not for noel gallagher it would have died allready..........

  • wait why bowie and queen didnt perform under pressure together this day

  • never "Bahnhof Zoo" Berlin !!! Please!!!!

  • 9 have no Hero..............

  • BRILLIANT

  • good song

  • tamborine guy ROCKS...this guy is into it and looks cool doing it.

  • Still gives me goosebumps to this day! I remember we were about a third of the way back in the crowd, and managed to get further forward for Bowie! The way the girls are jumping about on stage is exactly how we were in the drowd! Truly a magical day. x

  • I don't like this song, but I absolutely love this live version. Everyone is so amazing. The band, the crowd...

  • I exactly remember this like yesterday, sitting in front of tv while school summer break at the age of 15, tried to sing like whitney houston *LOL* - It was a great afternoon with all those bigs of music business - 80s forever - those music for ever - the greatest of it all!

  • tamborine dude at 1:52 stole the show!

  • @sumsumsumsumify : I agree with you. the percussion guy stole the show .... his name is Otis Petro but never found anything about it on the net I was wondering if he still plays in a band.

  • The audio from the day was different from this - this is from the DVD. A shame as the original was far better. Thomas Dolby's keyboards were incredible. They lose much of their impact on the DVD - which is a shame.

  • I don't know why your on such a thread just to dreide DBs performance. I WAS there and Bowie and Quenn beat everyone by miles. In the scheme of things does it really matter?

  • @leonoel42 well said mate

  • i sooooooooooooo luv this

  • i sooooooooooooo luv this

  • if you weren't there, you probably don't get it. queen blew everybody away. and that includes this man. they were that good...

  • @MrStu1966 agreed, but bowie was actually on holiday and had to pull in any musicians that were around,he struck gold with thomas dolby.and also, queen were about to embark on a world tour so were rehearsed sharp.

freddie was absolutely awesome that day though.

  • @CornishCockney True about Dolby, he made it his own. But I think Queen were in the wilderness at the time and didn't feel relevant. The Kind of magic tour was in '86, so they were unrehearsed!! A tribute to how shit-hot they were. I could be wrong, it's the wine tinted glasses and this song never fails to bring a tear.

  • Famine video - Fucking bullshit:

This video contains content from WMG and EMI, one or more of whom have blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.

    People need to see this!

  • the percusin man is bloody mad, speed freak!

  • There I was with my new radio shack walkman, walking too the local lake too go swimming listening too my bootleg live aid music and listening too heroes by david bowie. How I loved that old cassette.

  • I wish I could swim, like dolphins can swim ...

  • god, remember this day, streets were empty, everyone glued to there rediffusion tellys haha, queen came on,nailed it freddie was on fire!!

  • Thomas Dolby is under rated

  • @mrpicky510 some might think the opposite . but i agree with you he just sounds great here !

  • This video seriously gives me the chills. Amazing.

  • I was there! Fantastic!

  • TU SEI STATO UN' IDOLO!!!!!!!!!!

  • The intro made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck on that great day as it does today and will do forever.

  • Epic rock by a genius of the genre.

  • I suppose we used to do shows like this to help others....without fortune. But now we just send our big guns over and kill them all.

  • I like the way they dance

  • do not try and tell me he was not on speed at this event

  • @SuperCharlie183 so what, its still fantastic.... best performance of the day in my opinion!!!

  • massive and love

  • Very good

  • Queen were a good stadium band and the crowd pleasing extravaganza may have appealed to the shallower intellect but Bowie's performance was more effortlessly cool and emotional and was far and away the best of the day. I am not disparaging Queen, they were great but this was far more in keeping with the event.

  • i don't believe in god. i believe in DAVID BOWIE!

  • Just for one day, we felt we could do anything. It's about time we felt like that again.

  • @Youfugginwhat A truly inspired comment. Respect. :)

  • David Bowie doing his was great.Had this on my VCR.The chills came from Thomas Dolbys keyboards. Not heard in this. That sling made is my only thing I remeber. That hitted the spot!

  • That sax player is hot! Thomas Dolby on keyboards. Amazing...

  • Boy, poor David! Having to follow Freddie Mercury put him in a tight spot. David is very good, but Freddie just ruled with his voice! Look at the way the audience reacts to David versas Freddie, not even close!

  • @rubshop30 pretty obvious why.... bowie was on holiday during this v-

  • after bowie started his liveaid set with the awful tvc15, most people in the crowd were thinking what the #ucks this, especially after queens awesome set. anyway i think bowie turned things round with this, the best song of the entire day.

  • whoa sorry to be a geek...but those keyboards are insane

  • @TheSleathable You are not a geek lmao! I still think Mullets are sexy, haha

  • @TheSleathable You are not a geek lmao! I still think Mullets are sexy, haha, I'm the geek :)

  • @TheSleathable thomas dolby

  • THE BEST

  • everybodies like sweating like crazy and Bowies like in his suit all "sweating is for squares"

  • he is a god.

  • just look at the crowd during queen's performance and then look at it during all the other bands' performances....

  • @mr230889 lol...

  • what's the name of the percussionist

  • @wallybeeful lol

  • @wallybeeful Petro Otis !

  • @wallybeeful : Petro Otis

  • i wish i had been born to be at this

  • ok, so did they help Africa?

  • I was at the one in Philly......a day/night I'll never forget.....EVER....

  • tit shot @ 4:50 and u know who u are

  • Great voice!

  • ICONIC performance from world class artist.

    Nothing else to say.

  • Bowies great, and the live aid for africa was a great concert for an even greater purpose.

  • at like 4:07 his sweat makes it look like a tear.

  • Mankind is sometimes just magificent! This concert proves what a small group of people can do.Was up and watched the whole concert with its ups and downs. But one thing I always will carry with me is the fact that ONE person CAN make a differens! And it is ´bout time we all did something like this to support what is happening in Tunisia,Egypt;Algeria and the ones who are about to follow. They need our support.

  • The more I view this clip the more brilliant it becomes. Bowie worked a 72,000 crowd like no one else that day.

The way he charged the mic at 5:30 is a classic.

  • Awesome

    Nothing else to say.

  • David Bowie's set at Live Aid has stuck with me for over 25 years. With the turmoil in Africa presently, and the thousands of people in the street I couldn't help juxtaposing this scene with the burning vehicles and the death toll in Cairo. At the time there was a debate that this was just a party by 'well fed' white kids for starving Ethiopians.

The other debate was who had the better set - Bowie or Queen. I'll go with Bowie. This video brings tears to my eyes... and some hope.

  • this is horrible...wtf is the guitar? kevin armstrong is actually a good player but is no where to be found

  • Queen, U2 Bad and then this song were the highlights of this wonderful wonderful day......I watched every second of it live 25 years ago and it still resonates...

  • @cogg1 I wish I were alive back then. My generation sucks!

  • @cogg1

    Totally agree

  • I love the hair just as much as the tune itself!

  • i wanted to put 5 stars to this but forgot that there were only the like / dislike buttons

  • x factor have ruined this song ...

  • what an absolute genius.

  • queen were brilliant at live aid but this was the best performance for me.

  • i love David Bowie but this is a poor performance ... As we know QUEEN kicked arse at live aid :D

  • @prescott2811 aww man thats real mean thing to say. Many critics including Queen themseleves loved this version. Bowie and Queen did brilliantly on the day.

  • @prescott2811 Bowie was on holiday during this time.... so what would you expect numbnuts

  • frikken amazing... and that's an understatement... WOW

  • @gapmanreturns what are you rambling about?

  • @MGP1960 I'm glad you asked. You put it more politely than I would have.

  • Such a classy start to this song. Love Bowie.

  • @TopDog69 This performance rather. Great song regardless.

  • 6 people don't know what music is. SNM

  • @Lucywowgal Why? Because they disagree with your narrow little vision of the world? Fuck you.

  • I wish David Bowie was our Prime Minister. Imagine what a different world it would be.

  • @subjectfilms i NEVER THOUGT THIS WAY,YES BUT YOU'RE RIGHT,AND i'D LIKE TO LIVE IN SUCH COUNTRY,pARADISE.

  • I was there that day. My friend and I spent the night outside the Stadium, so we could get close, and we were close. Bowie's performance was one of the best. I'll never forget that day.

  • @briteness so was I, I was only 19 then. 45 in a couple of weeks. we made a difference. happy holidays

  • i love this song, i have a awesome cover on my channel

  • David Bowie is a wonderful man :)

  • Superb sound quality!!!

A legendary performance & what is basically Dolbys Flat Earth band. Always wondered what Seligman looked like. Weren't those backing singers the same as on Dolbys Hyperactive?

    Simply brilliant!!!!

  • WE were ALL HEROES...

    just for one day!!!

  • rock's greatest day.

    jctoronto

  • Buy Bowie's version of Heroes to keep x factor out the chart!

And the whole "it's for charity" how about you just give the money rather than using x factor ruining this song as an excuse.

    Show support for Bowie!

  • Anyone notice Kevin Keegan at 1:53 lol

Great post this though yes I agree X factor should leave great sounds like this alone

  • And this song has just been massacred by the current X Factor contingent..

  • @alcockell ... and for that guy who didn't know how to react to success and killed himself...

  • @alcockell What do you mean X Factor contingent? I'm lost...

  • @alcockell xfactor & idol shows have literally massacred each & every single classics..

  • @alcockell

A short comment and thumbs up to that mate

  • Only way this could ever happen again is if a large scale electronica concert could be put on for world peace. I don't see it far away myself. The world is about to really get to know itself :p if not then :[ there are other worlds than these...

  • What's so interesting with Live Aid is that the kings and queens, mostly pop in this case, is sharing the same stage as some who just sells a lot of albums. When a artist like George Michael is on stage, and after that someone like Bowie, great art gets so obvious. Bowie was the king of this arangement, that night nobody seemed to have been close.

  • im from mexico... y creo que esta cancion es la mejor version que eh escuchado de heroes ....

  • Where is the "walk cat" of David Bowie when he returns on stage??? Between 6:13 and 6:20??? Coupé! (in french)

  • Where is the "walk cat" of David Bowie??? Coupé in french!!!!

  • Simply brilliant. Queen and Bowie rocked wembley that day. I remeber people crying and singing to this at the same time.

  • I love this guy <3

  • I love him! Is a genus! David is a hero of my life!

  • bowie is god.

  • Only 77,800 views - less than Phil Collins ! what's wrong with these people ?

  • WOW!

  • One of the greatest songs ever, but a very weak backing band. It was and is one of the weakest live versions of 'Heroes' I have heard. From Bowie's worst eriod too.

  • @MABMAB27 You cannot be serious!!!! The best backing back at that concert, I was there

  • @MABMAB27

    Shaddup you knob.

This is the best live version of Heroes Bowie ever played, it goes on for almost 7 mins, mostly he only ever played at about 4 or 5 mins at his concerts. His voice is so raw here, it's great.

The backing singers and band were brilliant too, Thomas Dolby was first class considering he was using synth rather than guitar which was used in the original recording.

    You know jack shit buddy.

  • he's the coolest ever and made this show along with freddy

  • Class guy for introducing and thanking his band

  • i was under the royal box at live aid .. bowie was sitting at the end sighning autographs and giving fans fags and posing for photos..so cool.. and played this song, my favourite .. highlight of the day . queen were great but this song has deep meaning.

  • bowie and queen were the best by far

  • This was one of the very best perfomances at Live aid and yes I did see it live!!

  • Best love song ever written.

  • Great show and great performance of this song, I just love it. I wish I was older than 2 at this time!! Is the blonde singer Tessa Niles on backing vocals? Why does he name her "Julie" or something like that??

  • Those people up in the front are so lucky.

They're the legendary clappers of Live Aid! :)

I wonder where they all are now.

  • bowie is god. mercury is god. clapton is god. bono is not god.

  • @elhijodeperra hahahhaha...it's a fact

  • @elhijodeperra Don't forget Jimi Hendrix.

  • This is 25 years ago ... it is hard to believe ...

  • His son is so lucky to have BOWIE as a Dad!

  • i always remember david bowies performance he just gets better... queen were really good too. but who can forget the song by the cars.. drive, thats the song with the video that started everything. god bless all the celebrities that did their stuff for live aid xxxx

  • He did a great version of this on his Reality Tour cd. Much later in his career but it is awesome.

  • @belladonna1999 I was so very fortunate to see Mr Bowie live and in person during that Reality tour at a casino in the state of CT...I was just a young teen and was absolutely stunned by two things...How beautiful he was in person and how awesome his concert was and the other thing is how many young teens around my age were there going crazy over him......I am forever grateful to the person who purchased the tickets and took me to go see him.....one of the highlights of my young life.

  • he finished his set early to play the video, still hits me today and everytime ive seen it......

  • For me, this was the highlight of Live Aid.

  • best song ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2 big surprises about live aid in 1985, NO , Van Halen and No KISS , that sucked

  • que pena, esta música no se volverá a repetir....

  • for me this is the best song Bowie every did, and he as made a lot brilliant song ...Ps how his he know a days not heard for while

  • How is it that all of us have get old except him? :)

  • No doubt he was great on the day, as he was at Freddys tribute,, but i think we all have to agree that Queen and Freddy stole the show on this day,, also loved Bad by U2,, great postin though

  • thought it started off too fast, but they get on the same page and rock it

  • lol do you notice how he changes the words to this song alot hehe I still <3 him :D

  • It's real funny to see 'younger' peoples reactions to this song. This song literally transcends generations but the suffering in Ethiopia and other African countries lives on. Live Aid Lives on every day

  • I agree with LaraPeace ! Now, you can't call it "music", it's just a beat... But there are some exceptions, like Muse, or Mika.
