The Gas engine is quicker, but the Diesel is a lot more relable.

@SecularTechnology Gas engines are not really quicker if you compare engines with identical displacements. diesel engines output higher torques at low rpms. in fact, diesel engines tend to have better acceleration and better performance at inclined roads.

Yeah, actually Diesel has something like 15% more energy production than gas. Even if on paper the gas engine has more Hp and Torque (which the gas would rarely be more torque, but if it did) the Diesel would have have much lower end torque, which lets them haul loads larger than equal displacement gas engine.

Tiff needle is a good driver i must say. But fifth gear bores me compared to Top Gear. But i do like how they done that van. At least that won't fall apart every ten minutes. :)

A lot of new vans on the market try to be too much like a car and end up being too complicated to drive or repair (Auto G/boxes, Electric H/brakes, .LCD Touchscreens, ETC)

Transits have always been built for easy driving and mantainance.

My dad had an S-reg SWB Semi Automatic, but even that was simple compared to other vans.

Just a Proper Manual G/box with no clutch pedal, (no flappy paddle shite).

I had a Hi-roof 1.8TDdi Connect, I would have loved it if my company had these, they would have been a right laugh. Instead, I modified my company Connect by tweaking the injectors & De-cat - It went like fuck for a small Hi-top van, smoked smoggy diesel like Shit, but compared to everyone elses Connects it was quuuuiiick. It had lethal in-gear torque on the motorway too, best bit was... Company never knew about it HA HA!

Shit off a shovel? a Connect, WTF!? They are only 1.8 TDdi endura-diesel & 70Bhp. I used to work for RAC A/W & I had one of those vans for 2 years! they are frickin useless vans! They are the slowest of small vans you can get! honestly. Berlingos & Experts are much nippier HDi vans than Connects! The Low-roof connects are quite respectively nippy-ish but the Hi-roof LWB Connects are an insult to a Turbo Diesel! sometimes I used to wonder if my Hi-roof LWB Connect actually had a Turbo at all?

The 1.8 Endura TDdi does well considering its only 75bhp (I did upgrade from a shitty 1.8D Escort Van 55 and thats only 60bhp!)

Berlingos are pope-mobiles (and my mate has one and looks like an OAP driving it haha)

as long as i can do a ton and still watch the needle rise, thats plenty enough for me- the 'scrote only managed 87mph on a very straight, slightly downhill road...

Berlingo vans are definately a pensioners wagon lol. Hi/roof Connects are totally speedless vans. It wouldn't be so bad if Ford made them 90ps, (15+ more) to bridge the acceleration gap with the Lo/roof Connect. Don't get me wrong, Hi/roof Connects are more spacious than the new VW Caddy & are very tough little vans to kill. The Endura Diesel doesn't die easily, I would love to have one again but they are far too slow, If only they were 90ps & not 75

RAC had very few TDCi connects, Im not sure what ps they were, they were hi/roofs only plus I never had the privilage to ever drive one, I was stuck with the painfully sluggish 75ps TDdi. nah, I disagree, I hate that 2L TDCi engine. Its a pile of faulty crap! the 2L TDdi Transit was always stronger in reliability. Never beleive the TDCi refinement bullshit, Ford commonrails are no more efficient than the ageing Multipoints. They do the same milage on a full tank, & a Tiny bit quicker.

I think they should, at least make a Connect avalible as a 2L TDCi taken from a Ford Focus (PSA block) alongside the current 1.8 Petrol & 1.8TDdi/TDCi. I never thought of a connect as a smaller brother of a Transit, it doesn't look anything like it really. Connects more-or-less resemble LDV Maxus Vans. When I first saw a Connect I thought it was a smaller variant of an LDV Maxus!

They look nothing like maxuses (maxi? which ever is plural) and dont have foreign running gear (Kia gearbox/ Fiat engine)

personally i think the connect resembles one of them buggys you get dragging things round airports...
