  • This is really funny. Mozart was a true artist, please today's artists, learn from a master.

  • Please please please tell me how this can be ordered!

  • @cprs9 You can order it on amazon :)

  • @Lilith89ibz please please give me the search thingies! I must have it :-)

  • @cprs9 Look up 'Zauberflote Damrau' and it should come up. It's the Covent Garden (Royal Opera House) version, not the Salzburg one, with the green dress!

  • Hmmh - A new verson ... Definitely Mozart was a Grand Master ... pity I could not see the whole event, but thanks for this brief glimpse ... Runi

  • Good jump!

  • WTF I didnt realise that was Ailish Tynan!!!! And shes a celebrity in my (and her) home town

  • Wonderful performance by Keenlyside, what a actor/singer!!!

  • Me encantó! ... Me gustó!

  • I just love these two!

  • Many thanks for your wonderful and beautiful (wunderschoene) uploads!

  • Exactly which production is this?

  • @WeirdButNotInsane Covent Garden, 2003 :)

  • @Lilith89ibz Thanks for the hasty reply!

  • woah, this man is a great actor! (and singer obviously)

  • He certainly humorous but she does the best job dealing with it ever!

  • Simon Keenlyside is superb comic actor :)

  • this is great, realy great and so funny - I love that.

O.k.o.k. you don't speak German but you love Mozart? I too!

Liebe Grüße (nice greatings) Rolf Bormuth :-)

  • @bonsherah My problem is that I can understand German if I read it, but can't write it or speak it! xD

  • @bonsherah thank god for the germans, they sure are the masters of music! I love it

  • @bonsherah

    1. Mozart and the magic flute are from *Austria* and not from the german federal republic.

    2. Everbody is cordially invited to play Mozart in Covent Garden (or elsewhere) and discuss it online in every language. Mozart = cultural world heritage.

    3. Mozart = an Austrian that belongs to the world. (not the german federal republic.)

  • @aloispfusterl salzburg was in mozart's lifetime a part of bavaria,. mozart was german, not austrian.

  • @bonsherah I would like to learn Deutsch. But it's interesting English too!

  • @bonsherah Leidlich, wenige Leute spricht Deutsch.

  • in my opinion the best papageno! papagena is also good, but i prefer simon :D

  • Are there subtitles on the DvD? Where can I purchase one?

  • @battleoneliac You can get it on amazon or in classical music stores :)

  • People want to watch the X Factor when they could be watching this?

  • FLYING LEAP!!! That was an epic win! (And they say opera cannot be fun....pfffft)

  • Lovely scene!

  • simon keenlyside reminds me of russell howard :P

  • Such a great rendition of a fantastic opera, particularly this scene! Both singers are great, but I do love Simon's voice, and the fact that he performed so well with a broken hand is VERY impressive!!! (Watch his hands closely...)

  • I think this is the best Papageno I have ever seen!

  • Isn't this just the most adorable scene ever? :'D

  • lol at his little cough at 1:03. she was surprised by it.

  • 0:35 , he missed a PA... but I forgive him, this was so funny hahaha

  • Incredibly lovely! Great performance!

  • i love this song so much

  • This is so great! And SO relieving not to have them in these horrendous costumes like in every other production! Just browsing through here on youtube to see how stupid the costumes are is kind of funny!

  • E viva Papagena!

  • Glorious!

  • This is my favourite production of Die Zauberflöte, I love it.

I especially liked Simon Keenlyside and Diana Damrau (not in this bit) but there wasn't a duff performance amongst the lot of them.

  • also their voices blend very well together, though that is expected of such a high quality production

  • Papageno > Tamino :D

  • @ramune808 damn straight :)

  • Comment removed

  • sweet ^^

  • great interpretation of papageno and only vocally!

  • This is my favorite version of this. =)

I want to play Papageno when I am older. ^_^

This guy is very inspiring! =D

  • This is my favorite version of this. =)

I want to play Papageno when I am older. ^_^

  • he is so sweet. and how he sings immediately after the big jump into the bed:-)

  • They all seem to be having the time of their live! Thank you, my dear Mr. Mozart.

  • Thank you Mozart!!!!!!!

  • brilliant !

  • Simon's voice is simply amazing, the best Papageno I've ever heard :)

  • Simon Keenlyside has a wonderful warm voice..

    Papagena is marvellous too!!^^

  • I looove it!!!!!! thanks so much for uploading! =)

I've a question, is this the same production with Damrau as the queen of the night???

  • @LorraineCash That's right :)

  • @Lilith89ibz Thanks for replying! I'll search for it, it just a "must have" opera performance! ;-D

  • @LorraineCash Yes, the very same production... probably the best ever

  • greatttt

  • 0:33..priceless!!...I absolutely adore Mr. Keenlyside, amazing performance!!

  • how strange.....but interesting.....haha

  • This performance always makes me smile!

  • Top!

    LG aus Salzburg

  • was für eine grandiose, wunderbare inszenierung! gänsehaut, gänsehaut!!!

  • I wish youtube had a repeat button...

  • Love the singing. Bit "Modern" Mozart :D

  • Watching this over and over .... ^^

  • Keenlyside sings so beautifully, and he is so stinkin' cute. ;)

  • I love Performing this Piece :) The Duet is So much fun to sing :D

  • too many notes XD

  • there are only so many notes the royal ear can withstand

  • @donluchitti :D

  • Ha, ha!

  • OMG this is so good! Is this production issued on a DVD?

    I loved it!

  • Yes, it is. It is an Opus Arte DVD, from Covent Garden, 2003 :)

  • yes! Keelnyside is the best Papageno!!!

  • Keenlyside fell through an open trap door during filming, and returned in the 2nd half of the opera with a broken hand. His performance in this scene is amazing as he actually uses the broken hand to brace himself during his leap over the bed! You can see his distended fingers if you look closely! Fabulous singing AND acting here!!!

  • This is my favourite original version of this duet, it looks simply perfect!!!!

  • Cutest aria ever :)

  • That's ALOT of kids! I love how they leap suddenly at the end ^^ and when Papagena hits him with the pillow? It's priceless!!!!!!!!

  • So adorable!

  • pa pa p a pa pa p a pa pa gino!! <3

  • Papageni!

  • i love that version!!!its sooo sweet and she sings it great!!!

  • I saw The Magic Flute a few months ago and the staging for this duet almost killed me, it was freaking hilarious!! Papageno and Papagena pretty much stripped down on the stage to their skivvies then rode a tandem bike offstage to...erm...make little Papageni. ;) They were awesome, I couldn't stop laughing!! XD

  • mozart i love you...

    wonderful scene and wonderful keenlyside!!

  • This staging is so sweet and cute that I was really moved by watching it. Thank you very much for posting!

  • who is she ?

where i cand download this entire version of the opera ?

  • Her name is Ailish Tynan.

You can try downloading it from the emule, but I would strongly recommend you to buy the DVD or even the blu-ray. I have them both and it is worth it :)

  • Do you know where i can buy it, i can only find this movie about the magic flute

  • THAT IS ALOT OF DAMN CHILDREN!! but i love the humor

  • Very funny interpretation. I loved it.

The best duet ever made. Thanks Mozart..

  • A lot of papageni :) very nice and original!!! I love it!

  • funny.

  • omg, that is alot of kids. (duh)

  • This is the most original staging and design for this scene I've ever seen. Well done!

  • Lilith89ibz - Any chance you have the little ditty from this same production called: "Schnelle Fusse, rascher mut."? and the ensuing scene with monostatos and his cronies? I find that scene to be hillarios and would love to see this ROH version

  • I used to have it, but unfortunately, I lost my video file when my hard drive crashed... Anyway, I'll try to get a friend to upload it or send it to me :)

  • Looks like Papagena is about to go to a club! Wonderful production nonetheless!

  • This is such a wonderful production! There's something so charming about the whole thing. Thanks so much for posting the videos.

  • Don't mention it ;)

  • gorgeous the joy of having papgeni!!! wunderbar! it makes me tear up the pillow fight at the end!

  • Thanks to W.A Mozart.

  • Love it when he coughs at 1:04 :P

    Such meaningless details...

  • What a treat. Loved it!

  • so sweet

  • Wonderful! I love how Papageno leaps over the side of the bed. And when Papagena hits him with the pillow. And the pillow fight at the end - awesome!

  • jeez, i didn't even have to look at the name to know it was you, luindriel. i swear, there are like 10000 videos that we've watched in common.

  • This production is such a great pleasure to watch - and hear! One of the best ever, if not the best :D

  • Papageno is great! Papagena's costume is definitely a little questionable, but this scene is so cute it doesn't even matter.

  • This scene is odd, it doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the production.

  • What is Papagena wearing? It doesn't fit with the rest of the production at all. The kids at the end were funny!

  • What is Papagena wearing? It really doesn't fit in the production. The kids at the end were funny!

  • I'm a big fan of simon keenlyside not only for his singing skills but also because he's a great actor. For sure, he is really enjoying himself here and transmit his enthusiasm to all the cast and the audience. Hey girls! If not done yet, watch the videos of him being Don Giovanni, he is very hot! Hope I could see him one day on stage

  • LMAO! he totally FLIES at 0:34. It's amazing and hilarious.

  • The best part!! LOL!

  • If you look at the cast's surprised expression at 0:35, it's like they weren't expecting him to jump onto the chair. Maybe a little improvising on his part, but it still worked out great. I love this production.

  • No, I think that was just really good acting. You wouldn't attempt something like that during a performance...it could go horribly wrong.

  • lol totally. they all draw back.

Keenlyside really brings so much enthusiasm to the opera; tis really magnifique.

  • @Satirike ...and they can hardly keep a serious face as well!

  • I don't think so, since our Papagena had more than gotten out of his way before he made the jump.

  • @fallenanjel

agreed, I wanted to say the same thing

  • Ok, this proves that YouTube really is a way to sponsor these types of things... I'm going to buy this DVD now... it's fantastic.

  • I'm really happy to know ^^ My main point is to get people to buy the real thing!

  • Amen.

  • This almost - ALMOST - an example of how a desire to be innovative in production can obscure the music. But happily it just stays on the right side. Love the way he adjusts his 'hat' at 1.10! Keenlyside is terrific.

  • Comment removed

  • i jsut loves keenlyside from 2:20... awesome... idk why just the way he holds the note

  • Well, that was.....Er, different.

Well sung though, and Keenlyside is at his best.

  • Having played Papagena in operatic scenes myself, I was really looking forward to all of her scenes in this production. It's really weird how they "slutted" her up. It's modern, I guess? The rest of this production was fabulous, though, and she sings well.

  • Yeah, well, I can't understand it either :P

  • Frills!

  • You posted it?????!!!!! Great....

Did you know that Diana sang Papagena in ihren ersten Bühnenjahren....

  • Yes, but it was ages ago lol

  • Ehy Lilith!!!! she is so young..... It's only few days ago she started singing! Not ages............

  • Hahahahahaha I know! In fact, her birthday is in three days! ^^ I'll make a special video :)

  • ooh thank you for posting this! Simon Keenlyside is great, and this performance seems a lot more comic than the others
