  • well, hold on there. don piper went to heaven after dying, came back and wrote a book in which he claimed he saw uncle george and all the cousins while in attendance. *grin*

  • @wp4866 (in the same spirit) Oh! Well, then I stand corrected! :)

I guess it MUST be true. Since the bible is true because it says it's true, then I quess Piper's book is true as well! Wow! That makes EVERY book true as well. Even the UFO adbuction books, Spiderman and the entire Harry Potter series! Cool! Thanks! :)

  • This series is great...but I have to say that that woman's whiny voice that asks the questions is grating!

  • @rjcode6 And they don't ask me to believe the unbelievable or else! :)

  • Comment removed

  • @rjcode6 Bravo, on doing that. Most would just take it, and if they didn't agree with it, throw it in the trash. It takes some guts to put it back on her porch, and I commend you on it.

I don't know what city you're in, but you might want to look for a MeetUp grour in your city (or start one). Youre NOT alone! :)

  • I feel a little more free after watching your video I was brought up brainwashed catholic but deep down never really accepted it there was just no logic to it thanks

  • Thank you, Doubter, for a memorably excellent series but also for having set the platform for the wonderfully funny comments that your readers have posted. Cheers.

  • to tell the truth both atheism and religion both make you slave of the state however atheism thinks its smart ,to me i am atheist and also Anarchist and also want to learn more from both sides etc

  • In the Book of Enoch (950 year old Noah's 300 year old Grand-father), Enoch claims he visited heaven and met god and some of his angels. In his description and pictures they are all butt naked men... no women... I'll take hell please.

  • @ziriaxwc lol!

  • Practice your guitar with a metronome

  • Very nice series Doubter.

  • Thank you so much for making these. These videos are just perfect. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now I can show this to people when they think I'm a witch loving satan humper. :)

  • Full house from me, great video and a while back it really helped me convert from christianity to reason, and I don't think I've ever been more happy. 5/5

  • 5 stars! I love it

  • Atheists FTW!!

  • Fantastic! Bravo!

  • awesome videos! you make a large number of great points, and I especially liked the portions of showing examples of other atheists.

If you haven't already seen them, there is another amazing series on religion and science thats having a hard time finding viewers. It's called Discovering Religion, by andyzohoury, i believe. there are currently 12 in the series but he hopes to produce more. Check em out!

  • Great and very inclusive video!

  • Just finished watching all 6 parts.thank you 4 your Digitalfreethought's Atheism 101 1 to 6 , its 5/5 but i fined you go a little fast , sum time to emphasis

at the end of statements. may help ? wish more people could see these videos

  • Thank you very much for these videos! Im proud to be an atheist, I only wish more people could see these videos!

  • And you do not need to stop at wishing. You can send links to your friends, or put up a link at your social-site profiles or homepage. If you truely are a proud atheis, you should have no problem doing that. I would also like for more people to see these videos, but i don't feel like yelling out to people (yet at least), as i live in a scandinavia, and most people here are very disbelieving in religions (literal interpetation at least) as in general.

  • An Excellent video for answering some of the more common (religious) questions I've heard on youtube.

  • i love your voice.

now to somthing that matters, i completely agree with everything that you have said. of course i know that there will be much more frothing christians

(lets face it it usually is christians who flip out)

that will be really mad at you.

    keep doing it!

  • Just the fact that different people all over the world believe with all their heart in a certain religion proofs that people can be easily deluded.

I think the promises and treats religion makes are just too big for people to have a good reality check. Nomatter how many scientific claims from the bible or any other religion get disproved by science, people will just keep on hoping and believing in the afterlife.

  • I agree on many levels, especially all of the ones that you mention. but what I was referring to is the part where i said "I wish we could all live forever", but it doesn't necessarily mean in the Christian heaven. With out constant, challenge and improvement it would eventually turn into hell.. I couldn't agree more.

    Well said, indeed..

    Larry

  • I think the Idea of Hevean would be so tragic. that everything in this universe is a complete waste, all the amazing and extraordinary processess, the struggle and the amazing forces that made life, all these complexities so far beyond our understanding. all for naught. just so a few of us could float in the clouds for eternity. with no purpose because with have already achieved the maximum we could hope for. besides 1/3 of all angels obviously weren't happy. what makes you so sure you will be

  • "don't you wish that you could go to hevean?" no i don't, don't use we when talking about an atheist trait, because the only common atheist trait not accepting the supernatural. even free thought isn't a universally atheist idea, many atheists want to destroy religion, some are just ignorant people that just dont believe in gods or magic. atheism is not a religion, it is not a belief. there is no "we".

  • Just finished watching all 6 parts. A comforting confirmation of my growth out of Catholicism. Only one disagreement and that's on afterlife. I certainly do not believe in any form remotely resembling the biological one but perhaps a shift to something we cannot as yet explain. In speaking about "personality" I think there is room for the concept of conciousness apart from it. My own experience, (evidence as it were), is more simply explained by an alternate form. Any thoughts?

  • Sounds good, it's just that I cannot conceive of an intelligence without a biological basis, ie. a brain.

But that may very well be just a limitation of my own imagination!

    Thanks for commenting! :)

  • More Please, this is great stuff

  • Thanks for the very kind words, and I am working on another video, but it's slow going. Just not taking any time to get it done... Sheer inertia!

  • I have to watch the rest of this series now. But I learned a bit from this so thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for your excellent documentary. Everybody should watch it. If the human race can survive religion, maybe it can become worthy of its natural gift of intelligence. Keep up the good work, Ed

  • Doing research on the physiology of the brain is one of the best antidotes to religious belief.

  • Very well put. Excellent!

  • wow, i cant tell you how happy watching this series has made me. I wish this series could be played on every television in the world.

  • Hm, this was an excellent series, but I've been noticing that folks are now going on about how science is all evil because of weapons developed because of it or the whole "Hitler bought into Darwin" meme. Maybe we need an "atheism 201" to cover these?

  • Well Hitler was a roman catholic for sure following one of the passages in the bible to justify holocoast.

  • didnt hitler think that he was the race chosen by god?

  • mj,

"Gott mit uns" was the motto of the Wehrmacht, but I don't have sources that Hitler personally thought the Aryan race was chosen by god. Wouldn't surprise me, though.

  • 5 stars.

  • Thank you so much for these vids. The music and production value were both fantastic. I only wish that mainstream America would open their eyes and shed the religious blinders. The fact that Gov. Palin believes in witches, creationism, and rapture, (and could be only a heart attack away from holding the codes for the largest nuclear weapons stockpile in history) makes me ill.

  • tstockt,

What's a shame is that we aren't demanding that creationists and other science-haters be denied the benefits of technology, medicine, and so on. We should be able to just tell these folks "back to your cave, grunty" and be done with it. Somehow though, they've gotten power.

  • Excellent. Thanks for this. In my experience though, I find that theists get pissed off when you dismiss their 'personal experience' as a psycological effect.

  • I love these videos. I've watched them about 4 times now, and each time I've enjoyed them more and more.

  • Thanks! I appreciate it! Remember you can download it complete in one 35 minute video from Digitalfreethought(dot)com.

    Hang in there! :)

  • this was entertaning and smart

    5 stars

  • Very nicely done. I enjoyed watching it.

  • This is such an amazing series. It's accessible to "beginners" to this debate, yet remains relevant to people who have spent a lot of time researching it.

  • I love this series.

  • grrrrrrrrrreat series mr.Rhodes!! i truly enjoyed watching this. i hope to see more of this sometime soon! ive also had a rough 'awakening' from faith to reason, but that is more a reason to try and enlighten my fellow human beings. keep up the good work!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this.

  • Nice series. Enjoyed it very much. Thanks!

  • Sir, I want to have sex with you after watching all of these. I am sure you have a manly beard!

  • Thank you Larry Rhodes! Nicely put together.

  • The correct word is disinformation, not misinformation. Disinformation is deliberately spreading lies whereas misinformation is spreading untruths when you do not know the truth and or have not bothered to find out, so the religious leaders have been spreading disinformation about atheists. Apart from that the whole series is spot on and I have enjoyed it immensely.

  • jumpiniloveyou, you're absolutely right. The link between communism and atheism is overwhelming. Which is why the fathers of America turned away from Christianity and made it's country a communist country where everyone has to be atheist. Oh wait...

  • Thank you for showing this six-part documentary.

  • Great series. Thanks a lot. I'll be showing this to many people who know little about Atheism. A few weeks ago my nephew heard I was an Atheist and asked if I believed in the devil!

  • So... -now I've seen the whole series and, well, I really wanted you to suceed, but... What a disappointment... The whole series is really begging the question, wouldn't you say? I can't even begin to fit all of my criticisms of your approach to science on here. And why bother with the ridicule of religions? I really think that if you left that stuff out you'd have a much more solid point, which is the scientific way to do things, no?

  • Thanks for taking the time to comment on my video. Please remember that that this is Atheism "101"... For people who may never have even thought to question their religious upbringing, or for those who have just now started..

  • So, this IS about questioning and disproving religion more so than just saying you don't have evidence. Why not just say you're agnostic? Why go through attempts to point out internal contradictions of an ideology based on faith and the dogmas of religion. Science is also a faith based ideology.

  • The arguments used on one must logically be used on the other ideology (esp. since science is so very dependent on its logic and rationality). To ridicule one ideology in such terms only goes to show that you have a personal bias on an emotional level. This is not scientific. This explanation of Atheism is entirely flawed.

  • it isn't about proving god doesn't exist, but proving that the arguments for proving god doesn't exist don't suffice. you cannot disprove what has never been proven to exist in the first place. it is like saying religion is cold, not that cold is an actual energy countering heat, but just a lack of heat.

  • Ah, instead of "disprove," I shall say "discredit" and stick with everything else I wrote. My point is that doubter 5 was religious, lost his/her faith and now is athiest. All of the scientific logic would lead one to espouse agnosticism, but he/she is antagonistic of religion in general, probably b/c of a personal loss that shattered his/her faith. My point was that the argument would be stronger without the ridicule of the other ideology in such broad strokes.

  • i personally find agnosticism and atheism interchangeable. agnostics are unsure, atheists are confident. but both don't know, and both don't believe in god.

being antagonistic of religion in general is perfectly permissible when it needs to be shown how dangerous it is. it is also clearing misconceptions of atheism from the believers who think atheists are idiots.

  • Right. How can one be confident, in religion, or science? I understand the semantics of each term. I'm questioning the video, well the autuer's strategy of antagonism of religion. Leave it at: I don't believe in a god. The rest just shows personal bias of distaste for religion.

  • Hmmm they never did anythig in the name of atheism they did it in the name of communism. you are trolling

  • The atheist comminists learned the techniques of suppression for their Christain foreberers.

  • I will agree some parts could have been more carefully done, but overall, the points are made rather clear. It's the political correctness of not being offensive to anyone at all that is extremely tricky to do. It's religion so no matter how nice and thorough the guy does it, it's bound to sound 'angry' to someone. Which is why I often don't bother saying anything to my family, or I sound like an asshole.

  • ALL religious ideology deserves ridicule. ALL of them.

  • science by definition is not faith based. it is knowledge based. science is the study of the objective. good science never holds a position that is disproven. it holds onto what makes the most sense so far. if something can objectively make more sense, it will adapt.

  • Yes, and then you begin to see more internal contradictions with this, no? What do you know of "science?" Only what you have studied of it. I think it's safe to say that you've never seen an atom split, or even an atom period, and yet you have "faith" on what others say they have proven... Unless you are going to tell me that you have studied every principle of science, experimented and proven them all. Faith = belief in things not seen...

  • Furthermore, you "believe" them without having experimented and proven every single scientific finding to be true for yourself, as doing so would be nearly impossible in a lifetime. Faith = belief in things not seen. Science therefore is faith based, on several levels.

  • Great job. I am glad to see something like this on youtube. Maybe more people will see the light and come to reason.

  • very thoughtful and informative, i award you 5 stars.

    Bravo.

  • Great series. By far the most educational and eye opener on You Tube. Now to get this to where more people can see it. and hopefully even translate it. We need to stop these little fairy tales and HOPING for a supposed god to do this for me, or help my sister with this or with that, Screw that. Do for you . You want something , go out and get it, Don't pray for it. Tell yourself you wanted and you need it and DO IT!!!

  • Atheists should start a massive fund to have this series broadcast on many TV and Radio stations... especially so in the USA.

  • Nice work. But why does the dis - UNITED STATES have so many problems with people not beleving in the supernatural.I know the U.S . thinks it has a monopoly on whats right . but there is only about 300 million people in the U.S, YOUTUBE spans the whole world. 6 billion & rising THERE IS NO GOD people (probably) GET OVER IT....

  • great video the ending is the best!

  • Good job

  • all these videos were extrmely well done, thank you larry!

  • Thank you, a wise man!

  • Just Brilliant.

    Thank you so much!

  • A soul has nothing to do with personality.

  • If your "soul" has nothing to do with you personality, then you cannot have an individual soul. Furthermore, as your own actions are guided by your personality then you are in fact stating that your "soul" cannot be affected by your actions. So the act of worship - which is driven by your personality- cannot affect what will happen to the soul. So you are in fact stating that religious worship in any form is meaningless as it "has nothing to do with the soul".

  • Your connection of personality and soul is puzzling. My acts of worship are not driven only by my personality. Maybe you are meaning personality is a way different than I understand its common usage. If you by personality you mean a person's distinctive behaviorial, emotional and social traits and characteristics, Christians believe a soul is much more than that. My personality changes over time, my soul doesn't. You are short changing the soul with your viewpoint.

  • You, yourself stated "A soul has *nothing* to do with personality". If that statement is set as true the arguments I gave follows. Now you are stating that a soul is "more than personality" (i.e. personality is *a part* of what you call a soul). However, you also state that a soul *does not change* and a personality does. This must mean that your actions in life, say changing from being a non-believer to a believer (a personality change), will *not* affect the soul, so worship is meaningless.

  • In Texas, wehn we say "more than" we can mean "greater than". To me the soul is the eternal part of who you are. You could use the word "spirit" in a similar fashion. When I say nothing to do with personality, I mean whether you are shy or gregarious or introverted or extroverted or comedic or any other personality traits. You make it sound like the sum of those items is your soul, and I see little or no correlation.

  • When I say the soul doesn't change, I don't mean that it can't be infected with evil or improved by help from the Holy Spirit. But it can't be changed out anymore than your physical body is. I can't change my body for Peyton Manning's and I can't change my soul either. It is my eternal part. But the soul doesn't change when I take a Dale Carnagie course or some other positive thinking course. That's personality not soul.

  • To give an old quote : "A blow to the head will confuse a man's thinking, a blow to the foot has no such effect, this cannot be the result of an immaterial soul". ― Heraclitus, 500 BC, However, contrary to what Heraclitus implied I don't have *one* soul, I have two, one under each foot.

  • great series. I believe it all

  • concise.

  • Deism is a religious philosophy and movement that became prominent in England, France, and the United States in the 17th and 18th centuries. Deism defers from theism in that God does not interfere with human life and the laws of the universe.

  • Deists typically reject supernatural events (prophecy, miracles) and divine revelation prominent in organized religion, along with holy books and revealed religions that assert the existence of such things. Instead, Deists hold that religious beliefs must be founded on human reason and observed features of the natural world, and that these sources reveal the existence of one God or supreme being.

  • awesome video, the whole series was just great and so true

  • Great work (5 stars)

  • The fact that we can see Religion for the fairy tale that it is shows us that human beings are still going though a process of evolution, millions of us are.

  • This whole series is awesome.

  • This was very good! I enjoyed it.

  • Great work Larry - I'm sure I'll be referring any inquisitive minds to your 6-part series.

  • Outstanding work! This series is a very well-laid out response to the repetitive series of questions that church officials give out to their congregations to dispute atheism. These questions are meant to stump an individual and put them on the spot in a discussion of religion versus atheism, and, though I cannot speak for every other atheist, I whole-heartedly agree with your responses. Well done!

  • Probablyaduck

    Point taken.

When I typed 'Hebrew', 'Greek' came out! - Duh!

  • Awesome videos, very, very good. It's a shame that most Christians would say this is the work of the devil or something stupid like that.

  • Not any room left for god!

    Absolutely terrific series!

  • just finished all 6 vids. i wish i had more hands to give more thumbs up. excellent posts. i hope you keep them coming.

  • excellence, pure excellence. bravo!

  • This is seriously the video companion to The God Delusion, etc. Brilliantly done.

  • Im not trying to proove a point to win an arguement. If God exsists, he must have made himself known right? Experience is never at the mercy of an arguement, one has to humble himself and understand that he needs God. If you want proof start here on your spiritual journey and move out of an "Egyptian state of mind" like the Israelites did to find the ONE TRUE GOD, and learn the biblical progression. My hope for you is eternal life with Jesus. wikipedia jabal al lawz

  • Many scientists,Johnny? In America,97%of the population believe in a personal God and conversely,97% of scientists in the most prestigious National Academy of Science don't believe in a personal God.Of those in the biological sciences, only 3% believe in a personal God.

  • This series is great.. well done.

  • William Shatner is an atheist?

Then why isn't everyone an atheist?

William Shatner is the fucking man!!

  • More More more! I'm not sure if I'm just seeing it more in my own personal sphere but Atheism is coming up alot more often recently. I think its good, and I think its time.

  • What will happen eventually is that science will fill in the gaps so there will be no more "putting God in the gaps". There will then be no other option but to leave religion, mysticism and superstition behind.

  • Science has shown that all living organisms are prone to breakdown and decay. The genetic codes of all living things grow weaker as time goes by. How can Evolutionists blatantly ignore the boldfaced facts of science?

  • What are you talking about? Evolution does not ignore that in any way.

  • Mmm...as a bioogical major student, I'm curious, where did you get that idea? The genetic codes(gene) does not grow weaker but rather get longer through mutation, addition from other organisms(endosymbiosis) and etc. You are refering to tail-piece gene that cuts off during replication. But these tail-piece makes up frm just repeating segement that encodes for nothing. And when tail-piece gets too smaller, cell either regenerates it or suicides.

  • I get the impression you are from another country, so I will be kind in regards to your grammatical errors. I think you are arguing semantics brilliantly, but the idea is the same. Take bananas as an example, which have become so weak genetically they are projected to be extinct in less than 10 years.

Admittedly, I am out of my element, but I believe you are a highly programmed individual when it comes to forcing biology to fit evolution.

  • Secondly, do you deny that all living organisms are prone to breakdown and decay over time?

Even the earth is spinning more slowly. I would lean more towards evidence for de-volution.

  • johnnybdifficult2

How is a change in the rotational velocity of the earth an argument against evolution?

As the Earth loses its kinetic energy due to all forms of friction acting on it; tides, galactic space dust, solar wind, space weather, geomagnetic storms, etc., like any flywheel, it will slow down.

  • Wow pseudo, that post was a long time ago... It's not an argument against evolution. The observable breakdown and decay of all living things is enough to raise an honest eyebrow. But this strange and pretentious dishonesty pervades our culture, and has anihilated the constructs of reason, for whatever it may or may not be worth to you.

  • Bananas have the same genetic code as they had since they started getting cloned. The reason they're projected to be extinct is because they haven't adapted (evolved) to survive in the modern world.

  • Here is a very interesting article on the subject:

    popsci com/popsci/science/5a4d4c3ee4d05010vgnvcm1000004eecbccdrcrd.html

  • You've got to be an ex-Catholic. Anyway, the Old Testament refers to the earth as a sphere. Further, the scientific community at that time believed the earth was flat. That logic could just as easily be used to say that since scientists once believed this, science doesn't count. That would be sheer stupidity, don't you agree?

  • No. That is not sound logic, because science was also responsible for the correction and modification of those ideas, and willingly admits when it's wrong. Religion clung to their flasehoods for a LONG time, and banished the person that proposed the idea in the first place. Science is not a religion, it's a way of thinking. Sometimes thoughts are wrong, but it's not a 'package deal' that was all made up the way religions are. It's a bad comparison.

  • Okay, so science changes when it's wrong. What if science evolves/eventually progresses to the point of intelligent design? Many scientists feel that this is a legitimate possibility. If science went in this direction, would you cease to follow science?

  • johnnybdifficult2

You said "Anyway, the Old Testament refers to the earth as a sphere."

    Bible references please

    Book, chapter verse.

  • "The Lord sitteth on the circle of the earth" Anyway, your atheist friends who know the reference (Isaiah 40:22, I believe) simply argue that it was thought to be a disc, an idea that has little or no support. Just thought I'd save you that argument.

  • johnnybdifficult2

Personally, I don't know what the reference means. The only possible way forwards on this one is to examine the Greek and establish if the meaning is clearer. Without an agreed meaning, no proper conclusion can be drawn.

  • wow, awesome series Larry, thanks :)

  • Well done, i think. i would hope not to strip religious people of the cultural and psychological impact of their myths, but i would very much like to see people recognize their myths as myths. i simply cannot understand how an adult can still believe what they are told to believe. i became an atheist when i became capable of critical thought, as im sure many others have.

  • Well Done! You have added to my arsenal for debates.

  • Great stuff!

  • the ending was beautiful -sniff- -sniff-

  • I can watch thousands more of these videos. it's great!

  • part 5 nailed it

  • A most excellent series of videos. An item or two in Part 5 that I think are wrong, but otherwise well done.

  • I found it very moving and well written. Good work

  • Thank you very much for making this video. I intend to show it to some friends who ask why I am an atheist.
