  • essentially translated it says LOVE STINKS but written and sung beautifully

  • wow great video never seen this before want to thank you for putting this up . grew up on dylan an peter paul an mary always loved there version of this song .

  • @crete484

    You are welcome !

  • One of my favorite songs by Peter Paul & Mary. Remind me of my childhood.

  • No matter whats said,Bob did this song better than ANYONE , PERIOD !

  • At 3:32 Mary looked right at the camera and it felt like she was looking at me lol

  • A profound way of saying love hurts and relationships suck. I think the best line is "I gave her my heart but she wanted my soul." Anyway, this song gives me the blues :-(

  • Dont Think Twice It's Alright To Love This Song!

  • College days memories, when this and Dylan was so in style. Love P, P & M's version the best. Dylan though a great song writer, not the best voice for his own music. Then a few years later the Four Season recorded as the Wonder Who. Everyone knew it was Frankie & crew. Thanks for posting.

  • @09mskitty,

    My pleasure and you are very welcome !

    I like this version better too and I agree about Dylan's voice ! LOL LOL

  • @09mskitty Dylan is still so in style :) And yes, Peter Paul and Mary rock this.

  • love love love it. childhood memories brought back to life

  • I've always loved this song and Peter, Paul and Mary, but didn't know this existed. This is why I love you tube. :-)

  • No one has ever said "Fuck you, I'm outta here.." more beautifully...

  • This is soooo good. Inspiring stuff... I've started a music project.. OK - A Band.. and it seems so much of our tunes are beginning to sound like sixties/seventies rock folk. Guess my parents music (above) influenced me a lot more than my own choices. I go back to listening to this era so much more, as the music then had character, a simple substance, lyrics were like poetry and often told much better stories....

  • @ 20LookInside12,

    Agreed !

    :-)

  • @20LookInside12 well i agree !! the music had "lyrics" then not just "words" in it nowadays a lot of singers have forgotten that music and lyrics is like a nursery rhyme in the music world n that they go hand in hand they both mean together,just rhetorically, u know , "sound of the soul"...and i believe that completely.......but now we don't seem to find that magic anymore...i sooooo miss this 70-80s era regarding western music..

  • Am I the only one who gets tears in my eyes when I hear this song? It's so beautiful.

  • the golden era of folk music, some amazing songs

  • "We never did too much talk anyway..." That's me and my dead father. But don't think twice, it's all right.

  • Great cover. Other covers of note: Johnny Cash, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, and Joan Baez.....of couse no one as good as Bobby D.

  • @EricDavidFloyd ...as well as Eric Clapton and my favorite, Susan Tedeschi...

  • These great old songs bring back some wonderful memories of our younger lives! I wish Mary was still around.

  • They mixed up the order of the lyrics. It does kind of make a difference.

  • 4 people thought twice, and didn't think it's alright.

  • Beautiful, but not as beautiful as the original, unfortunately.

  • Two yids and a shiksa did this one some justice.

  • Check out my cover of the same song in the video response. Thank you all!

  • He looks like Shel Silverstein xD

  • im clossing in on 70, but i'll never get over the 60s ! the very BEST sound of all was the sound of PETER , PAUL , & MARY singing - any song ! thank you my friends, LOVE & peace to all.

  • OMG..., finally found the ORIGINAL Bob Dylan version of this song (serch after this):

    "Bob Dylan- Dont Think Twice It's All Right (original) "

    The song takes 3:40, and is not the first on the list......

  • Everytime i hear this song it gives me chills and i get teary eyed it is plain and simply a powerful statement and song from the greatest trio of alltime! Ty for posting this song always puts a smile on my face and cheers me up! Music at it's finest!

  • I saw them in Sydney at the Stadium in 1967, I believe. Changed my life forever and I was in love with Mary forever. This is a great version, better than the album version. IMO

  • Isnt that Chris Meloni from Law and Oeder on lead vocal?

  • Greatest trio of alltime! There music is timeless!

  • I never "saw" the version of Peter, Paul and Mary before, heard it before though. But I do not feel much for this here version. There are better covers of this song. Even Dylan covered it better himself (big grin).

  • At least Female Singers in the 1950s,1960s,1970s,and even the 1980s conducted themselves on Stage Publicly With Self Respect.

    Not Lewdness and Gross Filth Trailor Trash that Female Singers have done for the last 20 years.

  • We sure could use this type of group today.

    Where are the Minstrels? Where is Barry McGuire?

  • Thanks Peter Paul and Mary your music has lifted my spirits so many times! Ty for posting this beautiful song!

  • i want mary to be my blood relative :)

  • I hope PPM know how much they' re loved and how the continue to touch lives whether they are here or above HAPPY 2011

  • Could someone please give me the year of this video/Australian tour?

  • @ TerryAlstonville,

    I believe it was 1970.

  • @cschoon1213 60's sir..i believe

  • @TerryAlstonville I think it was more like 1974

  • It's wonderful to see the talent that some people have been blessed with, and how they find and compliment eachother like this. In a word...BEAUTIFUL.

  • Nice, very nice Mary in this vid.

  • If your not feeling well just listen to this song and you will feel better right away!

  • Thnx 4 posting! :)

  • @ TashShaqMJ,

    You're welcome!

  • Paul's voice sounds like Dylan in 2:26-2:35

  • I don't know weather he means don't think twice it' s allright or that he means don't think twice that it's allright. If you know what i mean?

  • I love this version but the Bob Dylan version is good also! Mary Travers voice is so beautiful could listen to her allday!

  • Legalize Cannabis, and don't say it's allright to have it illegal!

  • Oh my god this is beautiful.

  • Mary always acts so weird... ?

  • @180Patrick360 Fine with me if she acts weird. Nothing more weirder,sicker,and disgusting than the way female singers conduct their whore trailor and street trash behavior on stage in the last 20 years.

    At least I never saw Mary Travers kiss like she was publicly making with another Woman like Britney Spears and Madonna did.

    At least I never saw Mary Travers expose her breast at a Super Bowl Half Time Show like Janet Jackson did.

  • @BBQFanNo1 - I agree, actually... :p

  • they should have let the girl sing more...

  • so comforting

  • music that is THIS good doesn't happen too often...absorb.

  • Excellent rendition by the great team of PP&M!

    Thanks for posting this video...

    RIP Mary....

  • It's almost as good as the original by Bob Dylan (like all their songs covered from him).

  • @ Krustenmann,

    Yeah, I prefer a lot of PP&M's song over the original song writers. Ditto.

  • @Krustenmann better than Dylan's version; the thing about Dylan is, notwithstanding the legendary songwriter he is, that most of his sonds are covered better by other artists. I think Dylan's best singing efforts are Lay Lady Lay, The times they are a changin, Like a Rolling Stone, and Positively 4th Street......

  • @ITILII I think that's a matter of taste. I like his way of singing very much and he has a geat voice, although he can't sing very well.

  • @ITILII I agree. I think he's a brilliant, innovative songwriter but I don't care for his vocals. I think "Lay Lady Lay," the other sings you mentioned were great, but I think other people do a better job of singing his songs. Peter, Paul & Mary did a beautiful job with this song.

  • @ITILII yea but how can you call them better. they may be have a more pleasing to the ear voice or honed guitar skills (not that dylan voice is anything short of great music to my ears), but they certianly couldnt write the song to begin with, i think dylans version is better, but this is good :) the first verse is jumbled up but im sure its intentional to make it personal to this dude or something

  • @Krustenmann Dylan wrote alot of great songs, but almost all of them are covered by others better than his verison, including this song. Dylan's best vocals are on Lay Lady Lay, Like a Rolling Stone, and Positively 4th Street, which I don't recall as being covered very much by others. Again, Dylan is without question one of the finest songwriters, but his voice isn't that great

  • @Krustenmann -But Dylan was only doing it for the money, he said so himself.

    These people put their heart & sole into every song, trying to help educate the masses. Hollywood however was a greater influence, & brainwashed millions into believing the Russians & Communism were going to do to them, exactly what ;what is being done by their own Governments.

    Time for hating Russians is just about over, now it's time to hate your neighbor, who has a "Union" job. Scott Walker is the new McCarthy!!

  • @hanksnow2 you don't think dylan put his heart into it? whatever drove him, he is not only the best song writer, but by far the greatest performer of all time.

  • @boseffis - Don't want to get into arguments, but look at one of his claims, "Little Buddy", a song written by Hank Snow, & claimed by Bob.....Just Google .."bob dylan & little buddy"....click on the 1ST Item.

    I guess he also claimed other Snow tunes as well,

    Drunkards Son & possibly more. I think he was a thief of sorts. Not to say he was not a good singer.

  • @Krustenmann Dylan was a great writer, but his singing sucked. He only wishes he wrote all the stuff they did.

  • @dwstarrider I AGREE he did write some good songs but I couldnt stand to hear him sing,,,another one I couldnt stand to hear is willie nelson he cant sing at all all he does is whine through his nose,,,I cant stand to listen to that,,,

  • Love this song!! Thank you so much for sharing.

  • Ha ha! The Sydney Opera House. It was a modern building at its time.

  • How good is this?!! Great up thanks. :)

  • Some days you need a little Hendrix. Some days you need PP&M. Today is a good day.

  • Wow, the relativity of time....3:30 minutes felt like 3 seconds.

  • thx...wow...

  • Fear the beard, indeed!

  • nice, but no dylan

  • Saw PP&M from front row in '63. They were thematic in my late teens and early twenties. My sentimental favorite is, "I'm Leavin' on a Jet Plane." You can guess why.

  • Man... I would love to be born in this times....

  • Bob's music takes me to a place that I don't want to come back from. I don't know where it is, but I like it.

  • Nice resonant lead vocal by Peter Yarrow....

  • This is a nice post.

  • @ indyvic,

    Thanks !

    ~~~ Chuck S
  • If you've ever had your heart broken, there's no better song.
  • I just met Peter and Paul last week in a memorial concert they held for Mary. It was a beautiful show, and I got to chat with Peter and Paul after the show. I might have been the youngest person there (20), but Peter remarked to me that he was happy to see PPM's music carry on through the generations.
  • Perfection. Three different individuals from diverse backgrounds, and three different sounds. How they mingle and come out as one beautiful voice. The song is love. The song is always love.
  • Excellent with Ned Flanders on guitar!
  • Me to "BRA". These people sing all the way up from the bottom of their shoes. They made this Dylan song their own. Love the personality and the humor. The musicianship is impeccable. This rare live performance is truly a treasure.
  • Never meant it more than I do today. wow. I once loved a man. A child I'm told. Hey... Don't think twice, it's alright.
  • Re: lyric changes, I think it had something to do with copyright law. Everybody used to change a word or two so they could protect their performances of someone else's work. I think the fear was that if you didn't make what could be considered in court to be a "significant" change to the lyrics, it couldn't be copyrighted properly. Copyright issues were being worked out in response to new technology. We're still having the same problem with the Internet.
  • @twayneking Used to be change 7 bars and it was new song. May have changed in the last 30 years but songs are extremely simple to steal. What a shame, it's like stealing talent because you don't have any.
  • God, such great memories of Peter, Paul, and Mary...17 years old, I grew up on them. Love them so much...I actually cried when I found out Mary died. I love you guys and thank you for giving me a childhood. <3
  • Thank you for uploading this I remember watching "Hootenanny" in the '60's...
  • I must have listened to this song some ten times today... It's just the medicine I need for my soul.
  • @ musicfanBRA ,
    LOL. Good !
    I have done that many times; listen to the same song many times in a row.
  • @musicfanBRA Its sad that so many billions of people can not connect on a deeper level, of understanding, compassion, love. This song though comforting in our solitude only brings to light, Why, can we not see the "seed within the seed" of life
  • @musicfanBRA
    Ah ha! A fellow spirit! Best wishes!
  • @Zebedoodah - Hi, my friend, have a happy (and possibly hippy...) life. Cheers from Brasil!
  • Thanks so much cschoon1213 for uploading these 57 PPM  videos... You are giving moments of joy and emotion for me and many others.
  • @musicfanBRA,
    @ musicfanBRA
    Sure ! You and everyone else are quite welcome!
    I love PPM and it warms my heart to see so many people enjoy these videos. As many years as I have been listening to them I still love hearing all of their songs.
  • They're version is good, but i just don't like how they changed the lyrics. It just feels weird.
  • @jondirt4715 - Hi, I noticed they sing some different lyrics, but maybe that was an alternative Dylan's version? Possibly, since PP&M were splendid singers but not composers. They must have taken those lines from Dylan himself?
  • @musicfanBRA In the "folk-world" lyrics are always thrown around, newly invented, and other lines removed. You should go listen to lyrics from Woody. Every time he sung a song the words changed. Arlo and everyone else do the same. Dylan himself was no different.
  • PURE CLASS.......THANKS FOR POSTING IT!
  • God be with Mary.
    I am still almost in unbelief that she is gone.
    I wish all people were like these folks.
    I thank you all YouTubers for your warm and beautiful thoughts.
    I have 57 of these Peter Paul and Mary videos uploaded and I have only found ONE negative comment. The gentleness, civility, and love of Peter Paul and Mary are badly missed.
  • @cschoon1213 yes I to was so sad to here of her death. I did'nt know she had been so ill in recent times pryor to her passing. but the other night I seen an old  jack benny program with ppm as his guests. in jack's mind he had writen this wonderful song but it was actually horrible.with great pride he presents it to ppm to record.they look for a graceful way out of course.it was so funny you owe it to yourself to see. ppm did a very good job in the skit.perhaps its on youtube or the net.
  • @ SuperUnequaled,
    THANKS for the suggestion!
    Someone, perhaps yourself suggested mp3ify.com, ( I think that is the address ) before and it works. I had been using other software to do the same thing but that site makes it a snap !
  •  They look like a bunch of intelectuals!
  • Thank you so much. This made me cry this morning, but it's ok. <3 Thanks! This is amazing!
  • @ tigerdragonbrand,
    I am glad you liked it.
    My pleasure !
  • this is awesome"
  • oh I miss them!
  • I was born in the wrong generation...
  • Not exactly a packed house....
  • I have this song on their "In the Wind" album. It was one of my favorites from my dad's vinyl collection and so I bought the CD.
  • Thanks so much for uploading this timeless jewel.
  • @ musicfanBRA,
    You are quite welcome.
    :-)
  • so great stuff! :))) thats real MUSIC!! :-)) yeeah peace, guys!!
  • This is music at it`s best!
  • Woman played me this song / Then attempted to kill me
  • This is the work of a god... performed by mere legends.
  • Whenever I play "have you ever seen the rain" my mom thinks it's this.
  • Speaking of meeting Paul, I live near his sometime residence. It's so thrilling to see him around places when he's here - especially at the "Mex" (the best Mexican food in our area, which both Paul and I love evidently, since I've seen him there about 5 times). He has quite the presence here in this small town area. He is a sweet man and contributes to the community. It's incredibly cool to live near 1/3 of one of your favorite music groups ever.
  • @ mollyhodgkins,
    That is great. Last I heard he lives in Blue Hill Maine. I grew up in Connecticut and my parents retired to Kennebunk Maine, a tiny little town as well. If that is where you are I envy you; small New England towns are wonderful ! ~~~ Chuck
  • Peter, Paul, and Mary were the greatest folk group that ever lived! RIP, Mary.
  • First concert I ever witnessed was PP&M.... had no idea at the time what an honor that was... thanks for the reminder.
  • @ theatercatz,
    My pleasure !
    ~~~ Chuck

  • They have always been my favorite for 44 years. When I was young I could not get what it was in this song. 44 years later, I love it.

  • My son Alex that is 19 years old at UCF is touched by this song....times are tough for him and his generation...I feel sorry for him and his peers...they are about to inherit a life of burden and hell from what the Obama administration has left to them!

    May GOD Bless him and his peers forever more and protect their future..AMEN!

  • @RealEstateMonica

    First of all, I think it pretty much sucks to try to bring politics in here, but since you did...think about what you are saying. To blame our current mess on the current administration, who have to shovel up the sh*t left by the previous one(s). I can assure you that PPM did not feel the same as a thickheaded person like you.

  • I saw them, the first of about six times, in 1964. THIS is THE greatest version of this song, by anyone. Trust me, the beautiful whistling at the start of the song is by Paul. Trust me on something else, Mary had a pair of legs that were just as beautiful as her voice. I'm talking Tina Turner-esque.

  • Yes Zamusica, I miss Mary too.

  • RIP Mary :'(

  • So long Mary, RIP!

  • First listened to their album in 1960 when I was four years old. Saw them in concert in Raleigh, NC on July 31, 2000. Felt like we were all long lost friends. Each one of them just as nice as they could be. Their dedication for the "In Concert" album was, "This concert is dedicated to all of those who have given their lives, and are giving their lives, so we may all walk this earth a free and equal people." Even their dedication was moving and heartfelt!!

  • Wow never heard this before. thanks for posting can add it to my collection. God look at winsome Mary there. I miss her so.

  • @ zamusicza,

    You are most welcome !

    ~~~ Chuck S
  • @zamusicza J miss Mary too. (sigh) What a presence and a voice.
  • When and where? This is quite wonderful!
  • RIP, Mary. This is a wonderful "find"!
  • wonderful! they're really great!
  • This is that I call music :D:D
  • Great! Many thanks for sharing this with those of us who love this song and their recording of it.
  • I first heard this song at the old Arena in Vancouver, around 1964, sung by PPM, and had a chance to talk to them at the break - I went out to put the top up on my date's Austin Healey 3000 Mk II and one of them (Paul, I think) was interested in cars. Nice folks and a great song.
  • That is great! I got to talk to Paul Stookey a little bit and shake his hand about 10 years ago when he played in a small children's books store near here in Virginia. My brother and his wife met all 3 of them in an antique store in Stamford Connecticut in about 1970. LOL. Small world !
  • @cschoon1213 omg what was it like to meet him? I have their autograph and I practically worship it! lol
  • Leafpelt215,
    It was thrilling !
    I had listened to PPand Mary since I was a kid and when I met him I felt like I was hallucinating and it was not really happening. After listening to their beautiful music for so many years it was great to be able to tell Paul Stookey to his face how much joy he and Peter and Mary had brought me. I felt relieved that I could finally do that ! ~~~ Chuck
  • @cschoon1213 oh wow! I'm soo jealous! I've always wanted to meet Mary. She's been my singing idol since I was 3 years old! *sigh*
  • jameson ranch for ever!!!
  • Live at Syndey Opera House - 1970
  • Oh, God.... I loves it!
  • Ditto !
    :-)
  • @wendel1950 Love the Dylan inflection in the voices between 1min-20Secs and 2-00mins..... Classic singing....
  • Come to think of it, Peter looks a little like Trotsky.
  • I agree - funny!
  • But he plays better guitar !!!
  • Is it just me, or does Paul look like Rasputin in this video? Good cover anyhow.
  • LOL LOL -- YES ! He does resemble photos I have seen of Rasputin !
  • Peace folks! RIP Mary. I'm just 16 and I love PPM and all the music from 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's
  • @cristina92alexa yeah me too...I'm 17,thought i was the youngest person in this video...peace!
  • Comment removed
  • @,cristina92alexaThat is great! As I have said before, their music is timeless!
  • @cristina92alexa There has always been good music. It's just harder to find these days because the majority of people have awful taste. But great bands still exist and come into existence all the time.
  • Great vid!
  • Yes! :-)
  • Great cover!
