The Lottery is to debut a new daily game called Quinto starting next Tuesday that will be drawn day and night, It is probably going to require some kind of re-arrangement of the way the nighttime drawing TV show is produced, and you never know, they just might bring this music back.

Thanks for posting this. More interested in the PA lottery clip than the CBS Evening News open. Grew up in PA, miss the lottery drawings (and the catchy theme!). Thanks for the memories!

By Dec. 1987, the "CBS Evening News" had adopted the news music package that it used until Nov. 1991, which in turn lasted until late 2006. It's my understanding that CBS News had a long-running policy not to use news music (I believe that it was promulgated by Richard Salant). By '87, "NBC Nightly News" with its John Williams "The Mission" theme had knocked the "CBS Evening News" from 1st place in the ratings. CBS News then apparently changed the policy.

That desk and the bank of monitors in wood w/ the metal trim look ahead of their time...even though they'd be dropped a few months later; add some animated backdrop instead of the static world map and you have something that could pass today.

They didn't have the orchestral theme yet? I knew NBC went orchestral before CBS, but I didn't think CBS delayed by this long
