  • Most important........Lets see the target !

  • @baldbollocks The target is long gone since this was done over three years ago.

  • @baldbollocks I am buying this gun and am wondering if it would be good for hunting but i am mostly gonna be using it for target shooting what do u think

  • @CNDcountryboy The 7.62x39mm round should be just fine for hunting game the size of white tail deer and smaller.

  • Yeah! I'm glad you decided to buy our rifle :)

I'm just curious about the price there. How much did it cost? :)

  • @nordCZech They currently sell for about $700.

  • I agree with another post on here thats its so ugly you cant help but want one.I like old military rifles-something which has had a life and bears the scars too.One intresting thing i noticed in your video-the spent cartridges seem to eject forward. If this is correct and im not seeing things, but what a great idea and stops hot cases rain down on people by the side of you on the range!

  • @vegas2004 The rifle does eject the cases towards the front.

  • so ugly i want one.

  • @hailfire82997 The stocks sure have that 1950's -60's ComBloc look to them.

  • So how's the recoil on these babys compared to...say...a .204 ruger?

  • @Rossco139 Somewhat more recoil than that but quite pleasant to fire.

  • Just picked one up today!

  • @BLiiTzZGaming All you need now is a case of ammo!

  • dude having a thirdy round mag with a pin in it is like putting your balls to a grinder, im sorrry you have restrictions over there

  • @GunsNLeperchauns It could be worse, I could live somewhere that has a complete ban on semis.

  • how much would one of them cost in USD

  • @solidsnaker1992 I think they were about $800.

  • @314299 ok thank you

  • @solidsnaker1992 800 price scares me got ours for 500

  • @sunchipism They are more expensive in the USA as they had to manufacture new receivers, the Canadian market guns use re manufactured original receivers.

  • im glad you can own these in canada.

i cant wait to get one!

  • can put tapco ak stocks on one?

  • @TheRexx101 No, AK furniture will not fit.

  • What's the difference between CZ 858 and Cz. 58 ?

  • @451mnu Do you mean a CZ858 and a Vz58? A Vz58 is a select fire military rifle while the Cz858 is a produced for the civilian market and is only semi-auto.

  • @314299 Sorry I meant CZ Vz 58 - thanks for the clarifcation.

  • @451mnu that and the vz has a crome lined bore..

  • @WildAndLiving The Cz-858 has been available with the original length chrome lined barrel.

  • @314299 Yes but it's restricted instead of non restricted..

  • @WildAndLiving Yep, that it is.

  • @WildAndLiving the cz 858 is non restricted at least in ontario

  • @BillowyKibbles All the civilian Vz58 versions with the original length barrel are restricted in Canada while those versions with barrel over 18.5" are non restricted. Does not matter what province as it is a federal law.

  • @BillowyKibbles Same in B.C. only $700 here.

  • Having owned this rifle for a few years now (assuming you havn't sold it), I am wondering how it has kept up? Any things I should know before making the investment?

    Your response is much appreciated.

  • @gentleman948 Yes I still have it and it's working great. The only thing I don't like is that the bore is not chrome lined so prompt and proper cleaning is a must.

  • @314299 One thing i dont like about the CZ rifles is that there is no dust cover over the bolt which means as soon as you shoot, anything on top of that bolt is going directly into the receiver.

  • @Southern661 I don't think that has proven to be an issue. There are a lot of Vz-58 rifles in use in Afghanistan and from what I've read they are working reliably, so if they work in all that dust and sand I think that pretty much means that it is not an issue.

  • @Southern661 It opens and closes incredibly fast not much could be able to get inside but if something did, the opening is so wide (especially with the magazine off) it becomes a gaping hole. Extremely easy to clear without having to dismantle the rifle. This is where a bolt hold open feature comes in handy in case you might need it. If you examine the disassembly of the many different rifles and how they work you might become amazed of the design of the vz58. It also fires incredibly well.

  • @gentleman948 Czechpoint sells a more expensive one that has a chromed lined barrel and a 5 year warranty otherwise the Century is the more economical alternative.

  • thats pretty nifty how you can use stripper clips also in it

  • @XonionbreathX A handy feature indeed.

  • @XonionbreathX damn Czechs are smart...

  • how are the ones from century arms also is this from century?

  • @jigglejack100 This rifle is made entirely by Česká Zbrojovka. I've never seen one of Century put together rifles (they are not sold here in Canada) so I'm not a good person to ask.

  • Ok I am looking at getting into coyote hunting and I liked the look of the gun thank you for the quick reply!

  • would this gun be good for a beginner to hunt coyotes with?

  • @mcftyl The 7.62x39mm caliber of this rifle is not really that well suited to hunting coyotes, so I would be inclined to say "no".

  • @mcftyl the 7.62x39 is also used in hunting rifles, so yes you could.

  • @TomsGuns In some Canadian provinces the 7.62x39 is not a legal round for predator hunting. You are generally better off with a .223 Rem or 22/250 for coyotes. Check your local game regulations.

  • @314299 Finland: Its only illegal to hunt with .22lrs and then there are kinetic energy of ammuniton restrictions for certain game, like the bear and elk.

High velocity hunting ammunition isn't too liked in Finland since you get a lot of bruised meat from it, depends if you want front leg meat and ribs or not.

  • @TomsGuns As always it is a good idea to match the intended game animal with an appropriate round.

  • @mcftyl Yes

  • Canadians are very happy people since they can own such good guns, even if only 5 rounds. 5 rounds is much better than 0 rounds(that is,no guns). I am moving to a third world country so that I can have a bolt action rifle-my dream in young days.

  • @xxwzaebd You got that right buddy! You should move to Canada and buy as many bolt actions as you want and even a CZ 858 if you get the desire to do so!

  • should i get this or the norinco sks? which has more value for the money?

  • @nunvikingsofthesea The SKS is definitely the better value for the money. Unless you really have to have detachable box mags I'd go for the SKS and spend the difference on ammo.

  • is he just loading 5 for the test or is the magazine alterd to only hold 5 ?

  • @wild50gunner Mag is pinned to only hold 5 rds as per the law up here.

  • good

  • WANT!!!!

  • I would like to buy one of these. They're only $695 and non-restricted here in BC.

  • @Sursion7 No reason not to get one!

  • @314299 I need to pay $80 for a PAL first. And I have to take the dreadful safety course (I don't know how much that is). No money at the moment :(

  • @Sursion7 Money can always be an issue, but from what I recall the course was not terribly difficult.

  • @Sursion7 about 1 30 takes 1-2 days or you can challenge the test for 20 bucks.. it's 80 for restrticeted and non restricted 60 for non..

  • @Sursion7 i got one from italian sporting goodsd in van city

  • @willbings Congrats! Now you need a case or two of ammo!

  • @willbings i got a case one of the boxes 1020 rounds i think i cant wait to shoot it going next sunday

  • @willbings Good stuff! I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

  • and thats including 4 mags +pouch, bayonet +sheat and factory cleaning kit.

  • @ninja6kid That's pretty much the standard kit with these rifles.

  • 5 rounds only ?? such a handicap to a well made firearm

  • You cant get one capable of firing full auto too in canada or USA ?

  • @sviini No, not unless you are a government agency.

  • @sviini Accually, you can have a full auto in the USA. There is a ton of paperwork to fill out, and it is a pain, as well as special taxes to pay, but you can do it here.

  • @Jesses001 I'm aware of that, but you would have to find a transferable class 3 VZ-58, and those are rarer than rocking horse poop.

  • @Jesses001 According to My uncle when he lived in Canada (1970's) he had an easier time acquiring Full Auto's that he did when he moved to Arizona (1980's). Of course the pendulum has swung the other way now.

  • @jonkz811 That's right. Prior to 1979 buying a full auto in Canada was the same as buying a handgun. It had to be registered with the police, that was it. Things have certainly changed since then.....

  • it kinda look like a AK variant of an FN C1 or FAL,

  • Nice rifle. Shitty gun laws. : (

  • @numba1stunna4269 True on both counts.

  • @numba1stunna4269 terrible gun laws.

  • @41odyssey They could be better -and they could be worse too. (Think UK & Australia)

  • Been think of getting one. Still kind of pissed that I can a gun like the bcz 858-2 and not a fn fal without it being prob.

  • @ShawnCFarm Yeah, the laws make no sense because they were written by a bunch of gun hating liberals - they'd like to make these prohib as well....

  • @314299 ya that why I'm still kinda on the fence on buying one. I don't want them to do the same thing they did to me with me FN. Who did you get yours from and what was the price to your door.

    thanks

    Shawn

  • I went through the same thought process, and like you I also have an FN. I came to the conclusion that since we only live once I might as well get what I want while I can.

I actually ended up with two of these, but now I'm down to one. If I recall correctly they cost $600+$30 shipping, but that was almost two years ago.

  • @ShawnCFarm where i canada can you buy one cause marstar isn't getting anymore

  • I would try Frontier Firearms they have one in stock for $749.95. Wolverine Supplies is another place to try.

  • Excellent vid. What's your cleaning procedure after using commie corrosive ammo?

  • I do a basic field strip of the rifle. Squirt some dish soap into a small container, & add some hot water. I stick the muzzle into the water & push a bore brush from the breach end into the soapy water, then back up the bore, repeating several times. I use the same soapy water to wash out the gas port and wipe down the piston and bolt face. Next I pour a kettle of boiling water gown the barrel, then a couple dry patches, then shoot some WD-40 down the bore and gas port. Oil the remaining bits.

  • Awesome instructions. I used to use a kettle of boiled water to flush an old black powder rifle out after shooting. I found it was so hot that it evaporated fast enough that there was hardly any wiping needed. Then I would use Remingtons treatment for BP rifles to rustproof.

Thanks again for the CZ info.

  • the man has always had the best posture of anyone in the room....al the way back to high school......

  • No, you got that wrong, I'm not upright, just uptight!

  • Ugh, ordered one last week, should get here any day. I'll have to settle with my sks until then.

  • Sometimes waiting is half the fun. Well, perhaps 5% of the fun.

  • There's nothing wrong with a SKS, it's a fine rifle. I like to think of the VZ 58 as being a updated version of the SKS.

  • I like the SKS but I regard the VZ 58 series as better because they are lighter, have better ergonomics and take proper detachable box magazines.

  • Thank you WS X2

  • This man has good posture

  • Well my mother did tell me to sit up properly......

  • That's you?

  • It is indeed.

  • Good job

You're a bit limp taking the recoil :3

  • I guess you'll have to post some video and show me how it's done properly!

  • lol well said!

  • Nice gun ! Where you get non-corrosive ammo ?

  • The non-corrosive Norinco ammo (in the silver box) can sometimes be found at gun shows, but it hasn't been imported in some time. I think some of the Russian commercial ammo is non-corrosive, but pretty much all surplus is corrosive. Firing corrosive is no big deal if you clean the bore and gas system properly and promptly.

  • Whats Your View On The Surplus Ammo Is It Ok For The Price Or Is It Pretty Shitty???

  • The common (in Canada) Czech suplus makes a "BANG" everytime you pull the trigger, but accuracy is pretty poor. Good thing it is cheap to buy - reliable and good for short range blasting, but forget about accuracy. Best ammofor the money is the old silver box Norinco, good and accurate and not too expensive and non corrosive too.

  • Uhhhhhhh, the guy who made this video is Canadian. I can tell because his mags are pinned to 5 rounds. You CAN own guns in Canada.

  • only i still cant hunt with this because the only ammo you can find for it is FMJ.

  • @ninja6kid I've seen some recently imported Sellier & Bellot 123 grain soft point, if you check with a bunch of dealers you might find some of that. The Canadian importer for Sellier & Bellot is North Sylva Co, you could get your local gun shop to get some soft point ammo from them.

  • @ninja6kid Reminton 7.62x39 soft point (25 a box for 20) ... yep you can get it..

  • @haha48 Not in Canada. The US state department wont let 7.62x39 be exported to Canada because it's a "military" round. Up here we have to rely on European made ammo in military calibers.

  • @314299

you can get 7.62x39 in canada. FYI

  • @jmc350 That's true, but its almost all of European origin, not US product. The bulk of it is Czech, Bosnian, Serbian and Russian.

  • Since the CZ858 is semi-auto it is not going to do any 800 RPM, especially with 5 rd mags. As for Canada, I'm In Canada and I have one.

  • is there anyway to (unpin) one of these magazines, and is it the exact same magazine as the ak??

  • The limiting rivet is permanent. The CZ/VZ magazine is not interchangeable with an AK. In fact NO parts of this rifle interchange with the AK, they are a completely different rifle, the only thing they have in common is the caliber.

  • awsome thanks, i was curious, i was looking for rifle i could use incase of wrol for protection, guess ill have to stick with a shotgun

  • As long as the range is short a good pump shotgun will serve you well.

  • Good stance, I can't wait to pick up this rifle for myself... it seems that they sell out before retailers even get their hands on them lol!

  • Yep, I encountered the same thing last year when I bought this one, dealers advertising and not having any on hand. But be persistent and you'll land one eventually!

  • I got lucky I bought mine on consignment for far cheaper then list price.

How ever that being said, :)

There are a lot of accessories I want to put on my CZ 858.

I also want the non-restricted version.

  • The best accessories are cases of ammo!

  • So very true, there is no such thing as "Too much ammo"

  • Great vid. What class does your rifle fall under here in Canada? I'm thinking its restricked. I just bought a russian S.K.S. that was redone for $279. I also bought 200 rounds for under $60 bucks. Can't wait to shoot it as soon as I give it a good cleaning(trying to get the grease off of it all over)

  • My CZ858 is non restricted as it has the longer (19") barrel, they are also available in restricted form with the original (15.4 ") length barrel.

Congrats on your Russian SKS, I'm sure you will like it. You really ought to buy a whole case of ammo for it, 200 rounds just won't last long enough!

  • I dont know about any one else, but a crate of ammo (1120 rounds) is $180 Canadian here.

    Most places charge $200-$225.

    Can any one beat $180?

  • I doubt you will beat $180 a case at the moment.

  • You may be right, but it never hurts to ask around.

You never know what may be available.

  • That's true. The last gun show that I attended I bought half a case of Norinco siver box 7.62x39 for a little less than $4 a box, that was a deal as it is non-corrosive and the most accurate 7.62x39 ball ammo I've ever come across.

  • Nice :)

I have a source for Norinco ammo but the store wants $400 for a crate.

I'm thinking thats a bit much.

  • The silver box or the yellow box Norinco?

  • I have no idea, the guy is selling what ever it is for $20 a box , and a crate for $400.

I guess I can call and find out.

  • If it's the silver box stuff it is good, but it's not worth $20 a box, more like $8 a box.

  • Cool All I know of is the yellow box stuff I have in 7.62x25mm.

    Thanks for the info.

  • are the cz 858's pressed steel or milled?

  • They are all milled receivers, and most other parts are milled, and a couple of stamped parts such as the topcover. Despite the milled parts it's still a pretty light rifle.

  • finally a cz video where the shooter isn't using the magazine as a foregrip, good job man , and loading and cocking with your right hand. these other vids drive me crazy.

  • I just wanted to write something similar ;) Experienced shooter

  • i like the s&b milsurp ammo @ 0:34

very nice rifle by the way, i fully intend on picking myself up one in a while.

  • Yep, that's Czech surplus M-43, not the most accurate ammo but it was cheap and it is sure fire.

  • Rock-N-Roll!

    Praise The LORD

    and Pass The Ammunition!

  • Five shots and semi auto is more like waltzing that Rock-N-Roll, but I appreciate the sentiment!

  • You Betcha!

My Main Rifle Is a ,Russian S.K.S.

    Yours Might Be An Up-Grade!

  • Don't underestimate your SKS, they are a great working rifle, rugged, decently made and you can reload them pretty fast with stripper clips. Everyone need at least one SKS.

  • You Betcha!

Right Out of The Box, It Shot Great!

& That Was Before The clinton Gun Ban.

    It Still Shoots Great!

Even When It Gets Muddy.Opperator Error!

  • great video, nice rifle.

check out your body positioning during your kneeling shots. ...could use some work!

    good luck!

  • I don't use the kneeling position at any time in this video.

I assume you are referring to the position I use from 1:20 to 1:50. That position is called squatting, or sometimes "rice paddy prone". In my opinion it is a much better position than kneeling, however it is not something that everyone can do.

  • he's quating u dick head lol...

  • I assume you are replying to joshgates81's comment last month..

  • im gonna buy one. such a great deal. come with 5 mags and some other add ons . plus a bayonet.

  • They are a great deal on a well built rifle.

  • no shit. for 650. cant go wrong.i'll be placing order within couple of days

  • I have one of those, and I have been happy with it. Its nice and light, easy to field strip and has less recoil than a 30-30 levergun.

  • They certainly are a trim and quick handling rife, and the gas operated action makes the already mild 7.62x39 round even smoother to shoot.

  • These longer barrel version of the vz -58 are great performers and are capable of some very good groups with some good ammo. I was getting 1.5 inch at 100 yards with S&B soft point. But i wasn't about to string 10 groups together and solidify my results with my hunting ammo at 16 bucks a box. The S&B milsurp shoots pretty good too but its corrosive and forces me to spend hours cleaning post range. I just picked up some wolf hp 123g for a good price. Great plinker but a bit less accurate.

  • The best accuracy I have seen with commercial 7.62x39 was Privi Partisan 123 grain soft point. I must say I don't think much of the accuracy of the S&B milsurp ammo, but it's cheap and it gos bang everytime. I find I can clean the gun up after corrosive in about 20 minutes, so no big deal time wise for me.

  • Ya i shot the prvi but i found the S&B to be a hair tighter. Could have been just me. Think the prvi was a bit cheaper though. No matter those arnt the rounds that will be spitting out most of the time.

  • I plan on trying cast bullet reloads out of mine in the near future.

  • So you got your CV 858 from wolverine supplies to. I just picked the same rifle up yesterday. And yes it is of good quality. Specially for a 1960 rifle.

  • Wolverine is the importer - I didn't get the rifle directly from them, many dealers sell them. They are a nice rifle for the money, and although the bulk of the parts were made in the 1960's the 18-3/4" barrels are newly made. Enjoy your rifle - be sure to get lots of ammo for it!

  • this is not milled i guess

  • All Cz-858 / Vz-58 rifles have milled receivers. They are not like AK rifles that can be either milled or stamped.

  • milled rifles are all generally high quality
