  • 1:54 was the best takedown ive ever seen.

  • sorry all is judo no jujitsu.....

  • mute.

  • Nice video. But with a terrible, terrible song.

  • In the book "Learn from Master Jigoro Kano", published by Kodokan it is written that from 1882 Kano wanted to use a different name than JU JUTSU, to make very clear the difference within the JU JUTSU practiced at that time and the new system he was developing. He decided to use JU DO and he started using it from the very beginning. Other people may have used the word KANO RYU JUJUTSU, but KANO himself and his students since 1882 called their martial art JUDO.

  • THAT WAS THE ORIGINAL NAME : KANO JITSU. AND THE WORD JUDO WAS AROUND MANY YEARS BEFORE JIGARO KANO DEVELOPED WHAT IS NOW CALLED JUDO. MANY OF YOU SHOULD DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE COMMENTING ON JUDO AND ITS HISTORY AND EFFECTIVENESS. JUDO IS MORE THAN A MARTIAL ART;IT IS A WAY OF LIFE.

  • Kano jujutsu was the system taught to the military in Japan leading up to WWII. Judo was the sporting side kano jujutsu was brutal and devastating in its efficiency.

  • BJJ is not original.

    watch?v=Y1pZkv1trEI

  • Kitoryu jujutsu +Tenjin shinyoryu jujutsu=Nihonden kodokan jujutsu(Kodokan judo)

    Bjj is judo

    Sambo is judo

  • Kano Ryu = Kano's way ,and the founder of judo is Jigoro Kano

  • Amazing cut of the song at 1:46, very good job.

  • why say jujutsu to judo??

    jujutsu it´s not a marcialsport

  • Is judo...

  • Love the video, awesome.

  • This is PURE JUDO ....JUDO No JUJUTSU...JUDO

  • Originally there was no difference between the two but a name so it is both ;-)

  • Utter nonsense, there is a considerable difference between the two, which you would know, if indeed you knew anything at all about either.

  • you keep enjoying your delusion try learning some of the earliest history

  • What on earth are you talking about? Of course Judo came from Jujutsu - the entire reason Kano created Judo was because he found no underlying principles, or depth to jujutsu - it was a jutsu, not a do.

Clearly your interpretation of the similarities only consist of the physical elements. You have no real understanding of either, but please, enjoy YOUR ignorance by all means!

  • Bah !Jigoro Kano Created Judo due to the laws and the inpending extinction of Jujitsu..Hhe created it to preserve Jujitsu... and it worked

  • Can you provide a single piece of evidence to back up your claims, which can only be described as 'absolute fiction'?

Please don't litter the internet with your ignorance and opinion, nobody cares for either.

  • By the mid-1800's more than 700 different jujitsu systems existed. The most popular were takenouchi-ryu, jikishin-ryu, kyushinryu, yoshin-ryu, mirua-ryu, sekiguchi-ryu, kito-ryu, and tenshin-shinyo-ryu; the last two were instrumental in Judo's development.

  • It was during this time that Japanese politics disintegrated into disarray. Commodore Perry's visit to Japan in the mid-1850's also changed Japanese civilization by opening up a new world to them. In 1868 Imperial rule was restored (Meiji Restoration) and the decline of the Samurai class started along with a rapid decline in all martial arts

  • Although the government did not officially ban the martial arts, people were not encouraged to learn or practice them since the state was considered more important than the individual. Jujitsu literally fell into disuse. What was once the glory of the samurai was now looked down on and many well established jujitsu schools began to disappear.

  • If the budo concept was to survive the Meiji Restoration, it had to change and become a tool to cultivate an individual and make him a better person for the good of all. As a result budo found a home in physical education and sport.

  • Sport provided teamwork which was good for all and also developed the individual. It was a complete physical education; not just a game. Although self defense techniques were included in the training, emphasis was on using the techniques in a holistic manner. Dr. Jigoro Kano is credited with jujitsu's survival of the Meiji Restoration. He took jujitsu and adapted it to the times. His new methodology was called Judo.

  • In 1882, Dr. Jigoro Kano (The Father of Judo) made a comprehensive study of these ancient self defense forms and integrated the best of these forms into a sport which is known as Kodokan Judo.

  • Jigoro Kano did not create Judo a jujitsu school way before used the name judo Kano did create Judo as we know it today but he did not start it all

i have been trying to find the book its in but i did read it some 6 or so years ago

  • von wem ist das lied un wie heiss es?

  • the song's call 'Stupified' by 'Disturbed'

  • thx

  • comments : many by a bunch of tools so shut up .been trainin since 6 yrs old ova 25 yrs and in styles shown, congrats on great clip.luv the music forgoton the band and title can some 1 please reply, and 2 those tools- get training and fuk off with the ignorance

  • judo and jujutsu both rock

  • u mean ,olympic judo has rules, but judo is not only about fighting,or sport, its a way of living! This is why u have DO at the end...

  • It's not called Kano-ryu Jujutsu. It's called Kodokan Judo.

Jigoro Kano learnt Kito ryu Jujutsu and adapted the non lethal techniques into Judo.

  • Prior to being called Judo, it was known as Kano Ryu Jujitsu.

  • It was refered to as "Kano Jujutsu" but never "Kano-ryu" thus denoting a classical 'school' or 'flow' of teaching. Big difference.

  • Wow you're replying to a 3 month old post?

Are you that much of a pretentious jerk?

Perhaps next time you'll explain exactly how I'm misinformed rather than expounding a load of bollocks without backing anything up.

  • It may be Judo but Judo was taken from JuJutsu. Judo is only a small part of JuJutsu and has rules. JuJutsu on the other hand has no rules.

    Great clip and music.

  • right with ya brother BTW im a jujutsu-ka

  • The way to go!!

  • Kano Ryu Jujutsu = Judo . . . read a book, attain the knowledge.

  • this isnt jujtsu btw.. its judo..

  • You have to appreciate the skill of these guys. I do Judo and BJJ and its a tough art to study and competition is serious.

  • is that by Disturbed or Mudvayne?

  • In the first few years of Judo, it was often refered to as "Kano's method of ju-jitsu"

  • Why people always talk about bjj?

  • what is bjj?

  • bjj is brazilian jujutsu. the gracies made it from japanese jujutsu.

  • I've been able to do quite well as a white belt in Judo against the purple and, brown belts in my class in Ne-waza, especially if that's all we did. We started on our knees and, the techniques I've learned in BJJ have helped me greatly. Tachiwaza has been a different story, but I've gotten much better at that.

  • nice assessment... at my BJJ school, we have a Judo Black Belt come in twice a week to work with us on throws. It's also nice to have a few ex NCAA wrestlers training with us. Some guys have developed a nice take down game... I stil have a long way to go.

  • All in all, Judo and, BJJ use many of the same techniques and, holds, but they have different philosophies and, goals. The style that Helio taught was for self-defense. Other family members became interested in sport, while others used it in the Vale Tudo matches, which later led to the founding of the UFC by Rorion Gracie to showcase his families style in fighting people from other styles.

  • When an opponents puts me in the mount in BJJ, I'm given time to perform things like elbow/knee escapes, or bridge/upa, etc. In Judo, I've been taught to keep bridging. The ref's in Judo seem to think that any other movement is too slow, or even stalling, although not always. Judo players also use the Turtle position, which you don't see that often in BJJ. BJJ also allows a wider variety of submissions, including leg locks for Purple belts and, up. Many BJJ people also like the no gi game.

  • I take both Judo and, BJJ and, here are the differences that I've found: Judo is better at stand up, clinch and, throwing techniques and, the players try to keep the action moving with efficient and, athletic movements.

BJJ (the sport version)tends to be slower paced, but is more technical, especially on the ground. Many BJJ people have made the guard a multi-faceted system, rather than a simpler position that Judo seems to have.

  • It ALL comes from JUDO which is a compilation of techniques from classical jiujitsu ryuha (schools) integrated by Kano sensei into a "Do"

study up folks. "bjj" is the mass marketing of judo newaza. Maeda had no menkyo in classical jiujitsu. He was a Kodokan judoka.

Read Pres. Teddy Rosevelt's letters about him back in the day ... trained with him.

  • Yes but also some people can not learn that Newaza because most clubs spend too much time in Tachiwaza so people turn to BJJ. It's all Judo but thanks to BJJ Newaza has found its way to the mainstream.

  • You are correct sir. Brought X% of judo newaza into the mainstream and for that they should be commended. But they should also be honest about what it is...

  • Definitely should be more honest about it, I think Judokas and BJJ players should cross train more to improve both their games. After all we are part of the same Martial Family. You can't blame the BJJ guys though, for calling it Jiu Jitsu instead of Judo. When Maeda came to Brazil he called it Jiujitsu. BJJ guys nowadays specially in Brazil are more aware of Judo's parenthood to BJJ. Mehdi is another Judoka who helped with BJJ's Newaza. BJJ has a lot of newaza specialist which is nice to see.

  • Google George Mehdi and read what he has to say about the G's. Not so flattering. He left HG and went to study with Kimura in Japan.

    Google Hirata or Kashiwazaki.

Seen a book by the G's way back when that says JUDO on the cover. Calling it JJ was a way of fooling folks into thinking they were special.

"the Ezekial" (sode guruma jime) wasnt even in BJJ till when? Others too.

There is a small growing move to get back to roots. Train in a traditional way .... good.

  • Yes I'm aware of George he however did help develop BJJ by training Rolls, Rickson and a few others after he came back to Brazil. The Gracies weren't the only BJJ, guys like Franca (one of others to train with Maeda) and his student Fadda were calling it Jiujitsu too, his lineage which end with Jacare Souza is the non Gracie BJJ. I guess the Gracies did want to market it as their own, that's evident they do a lot of things like that I mean Rorion even trademarked Gracie Jiu Jitsu from other Gs.

  • Your comment is very fair.

The term Ju-Do actually came up in 1925.

Jigoro Kano did not create this term, Kodokan always defended ´Kano Ryu Ju Jutso´. Gracie family kept the Ne-Waza safe in Brazil, and BJJ (or GJJ) is 100% sure derived from Jigoro Kano art.

When Kimura defeated Helio Gracie, he said: "I´m glad to know you kept safe in your country, the art that was forgot in my land". BJJ and modern Judo are two sides (Ne & Nague) of same coin : ´Kano Ryu Ju Jutso´...

  • BJJ is not 100% derived from Judo. Maeda also studied Japanese Jujitsu. Also, Rolls and Rickson Gracie brought in wrestling and Sambo techniques.

  • Judo is just a name created at 1925 to identify Kano Ryu Ju-jutsu style. Of course BJJ adopted wrestling and sambo, however the root of BJJ is the same Ne-Waza performed by Kodokan at very begining of JoDu history.

  • It was never called Kano Ryu JJ. He trained in JJ but called his system judo.

  • When Maeda left Japan, Judo was also known as Kano Jiu-Jitsu and, even more generically, simply as Jiu-Jitsu. Teachers of both arts didn't try too hard to make the distinction clear. Tsunejiro Tomita himself co-authored a book called Judo: The Modern School of Jiu-Jitsu in around 1906. Outside Japan, however, this distinction wasn't even hinted.

  • The Japanese government itself did not officially mandate until 1925 that the correct name for the martial art taught in the Japanese public schools should be "judo" rather than "jujutsu". In Brazil, the art is still called "Jiu-Jitsu". When the Gracies went to the United States to spread their art, the system became known as "Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu" and "Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

  • If you know the meaning of "DO", you know the difference between Ju-DO and Ju-Jutso. If you know the meaning of DO you also know the difference between Ken-DO and Ken-Jutso, and Aiki-DO and Aiki-Ju-jutso.

  • BJJ is a grappling art derived from Judo which perfects the most effective ground techniques. The art began with Mitsuyo Maeda, a Japanese expert judoka and member of the Kodokan. Maeda was one of five of the Kodokan's top groundwork experts that Judo's founder Kano Jigoro sent overseas to spread his art to the world.

  • Maeda left Japan in 1904 and visited a number of countries giving demonstrations and accepting challenges from wrestlers, boxers, savate fighters and various other martial artists before eventually arriving in Brazil on November 14, 1914.

  • sambo is also derived from kano jiu jitsu.

  • NO Maeda did NOT study ANY Koryu Jujutsu, he did spend a bit of time in Sumo prior to coming to Kano and the Kodokan, but there is no historical information or evidence that he spent any time in ANY Koryu Jujutsu. Maeda was a Judoka plain and simple.

  • GooseHinson. You are idiot. kano ryu jujutsu is judo. yuse your brain or read books.

  • Great video.

  • I agree some people need to read a book and due the history of judo and before and after Jigiro Kano...BJJ came from one of Kano's students its still JUDO...

  • WRONG! "Brazilian Jiu Jitsu" is a modern derivative of its parent art known as KOSEN JUDO. Bjj currently focuses on newaza (ground tech) only. However, it USED to teach "tai nage waza" (body throwing tech) as well in the 60's and prior. Bjj is an excellent submission wrestling style. And although it is not a bastard art, it heritage is not in that of Kano Ryu Jujutsu but in that of Kosen Judo. This is the THE TRUTH although so many wish not to believe it or research via unbiased resources.

  • Wrong! Kosen Ryu split off from Kano's school seperately and not even during the same time frame as the Gracies! Maeyeda was not a "kosen" practitioner. He taught them standard Kodokan judo and happened to be an excellent "wrestler" and they tended to have a liking to the newaza. Original BJJ was more complete and stuck to big throws and then finishes before it was a sport. Saying that BJJ came from Kosen Ryu, is like saying baseball came from football just because they throw a ball!

  • kosen is about what rules you fight by at tournaments so which waza are emphasized.... that's all.

  • Kosen is not really split, it's still Kodokan Judo just that they focused on Newaza to facilitate teaching it to Students more specifically University Students. They believe the newaza was easier for the busy college students to grasp.

  • Yes! KOSEN is an abbreviation of Kokko Gakko Semon Gakko ...... High school and technical school. Not a separate art. Just a broader emphasis of the curriculum. Not a different art.

  • hella tight!

  • facking debiel het is judo geen jiu jitsu

  • This is judo but still very cool clip.

  • see reply to post below.

  • you idiots this is judo as you seen on the video eurosports giving it as a live and judo is a only olympic sport for fighting

we are very nervous about that someone gives his name to something and says this is what i faund my techniques this is not KANO RYU ' something this is judo !

  • when judo was first developed by Jigoro Kano, it was commonly refered to as Kano Ryu Jujutsu, as it was Kano's take on what Jujutsu should be according to its defining principle of minimum effort for maximum effect. Kano Ryu Jujutsu IS Judo. Read a book, attain the knowledge!

  • Very interesting. That probably explains why the Gracies called their art Brazilian Jiu Jitsu rather than Brazilian Judo. The fellow that taught them probably told them that they were learning Kano Ryu Jujutsu, or simply Jujutsu.

  • Also, the phrase "jiu-jitsu" was already well known globally and had a reputation, while "judo" was still an early concept. Also Maeyda learned other classic styles of jiu-jitsu as well and was fighting for money at the time all over the world, resorting to more "complete" fighting including striking.

  • a common mistake made by foreigners and Kano sensei's art was sometimes called kano jiujitsu.

  • @MrPotatoesLatkie back than everything was called ju jutsu. ju do came after, and the difference speaking of name, and filosophy also, is from art of fighting to path in life. the same thing happend with kara te.

  • Your an idiot.. Kano Ryu Jujitsu IS judo.. kano ryu Jujitsu is what it was called before Judo... so learn your history before you post ignorant comments

  • its judo only judo no bjj kano ryu jujutsu only judo judo judo judo

  • see above reply

  • very nice clip

  • masivebored

"Kano Ryu Jujutsu is just another way of say Brazillian Jujitsu"

Oh Yeah!! Brazilian Judo is another good option to BJJ!

  • hahaha,,, funny people they name the art after their countery... even if they knew that they just borrowed it from japan... hehehe... dream fools!!!!!!!

  • cool video! and by the way crygindian, stuff ninja do is called Ninjutsu

  • you are completely ignorant

  • >Kano Ryu Jujutsu is just another way of say Brazillian Jujitsu

    nonono

Kano Ryu Jujutsu is just another way of say Judo

  • So would Gracie Ryu Jujitsu be an acceptable term?

  • @sss93eee no its nottttttttttttttttttt

  • that music is this of the video? Thank´s

  • Great Judo, awesome music... Maybe you won't be so modest with the next video you post. I for one would like to see some clips of you stapling people to the tatami!

(provided I'm not on the recieving end!)

  • "Kano Ryu Jujutsu" does sound nice. Cool vid.

  • It's what judo was called for a time.

  • Never knew that.

Oh and that throw at 4-7 seconds is something of beauty.

  • Wasnt it kano ryu ju jitsu? he did ju jitsu and thought that the static way of practicing the movements was too unrealistic so he created a different way of practicing and from that came the focus on throws and newaza and they way they train in it. if you know better please tell me lol i like learning bout this stuff

  • Not just static. He couldn't see a common priciple behind jujutsu, it was just a collection of unrelated techniques. Other than that, there's for too much to post here. There's a lot of good books out there that are pretty thorough on this subject though. Try the Judo information site too. The fella that runs that site has a fantastic book out too.

  • Cool, so thats why he focused on the throwing and ground stuff, because it was all related. Ill have a look for some books on it. Thanks anyway. And its ju jitsu, not ju jutsu. ju jutsu is the stuff that ninjas practiced lol

  • jujutsu, ju jitsu, jiu jitsu . . . it's all the same, there is no right or wrong. you can't spell japanese words with english letters. the word itself is a blanket term used to describe several styles of japanese martial arts.

  • Ah, that's much better, and those throws are still just as painful to watch. wicked vid.
