Nice vid. L1011 one of the best aircrafts to fly on. I was a courier for 5 years from 1991 to 1996, and I flew several times on Delta's L1011 from Boston to Bermuda and it was awesome! By the way, could you tell me who performs the song on this video?
1. Eastern's Shuttle from LaGuardia and Newark to Boston and Washington National did not require reservations and guaranteed all passengers who arrived before departure would be accommodated, so they had to fly the 5 extras people on the L-1011. 2. We certainly did fly A300's. 3. Frank Lorenzo was a rapist bastard. He took everything from Eastern to give to Continental....our money, our routes, our life. Fuck you, Frank Lorenzo, wherever you may be.
my buddies grandfather was a 727 pilot for eastern. his dads dream was to fly eastern like his father. its a shame they went out of business. also, the last time my mom flew was with eastern during a field trip when she was 5. (shes now 33)
Eastern was a good airline. Flew them from. 1974-1982, Used it to go MCO-RDU.Eastern will always have a special place in my life. I realt looked forward to fly L-1011's from MCO-ATL, they were a great plane.
IT SUCKS HOW THEY HAD TO CLOSE DOWN. My dad worked for that airline he loved it. But now if you work for an airline alot of people say your nothing but a glorified busdriver.
l-1011 greatest plane evevy built,to bad eastern couldnt pull it out in the end. first flight on the then new 727 in 1963 lga to dca.what ever happened to charlie bryan
Excellent! If only Eastern were around today....... the #1 airline to South America & perhaps even Iberian Europe using their fleet of Airbus A 330s and 340s.....
@Medicair14 eastern was the first airline i america to use the a 300 .unions didnt want it but borman acepeted them basically for free from airbus so they could break in to us market the rest is history
@neweast1 You are right. Frank Borman added the A300 to Eastern in a try-before-you-buy deal. The initial deal was for 4 A300 aircraft with the option to buy more if Borman was satisfied. Borman, was surprised that an A300 fleet of 25 aircraft was about 25% more fuel efficient than a L1011 fleet of the same size, ans as you said the rest in the Airbus US market entrance is history.
Wow, a lot of this video is taken from actual American Airlines commercials -- the video and the music. Of course there are many former EAL employees working at American now so it's not that far of a stretch to mix the 2 airlines in a commercial. Safe flying to all who used to fly the silver and blue of EAL before Lorenzo destroyed it.
Seriously though, I do miss Eastern they had some good people working for them. I remember one time on the shuttle to LGA from BOS they didn't have enough seats on a 727 and true to their guaranteed seat policy they put us on a A300 which left right after it. There was only about 5 people on the plane!! It felt really weird having a plane that size to ourselves.
lol that must a been pretty sweet its like u had a private jet. that airline was pretty friendly. but why was there only 5 ppl on the next flite its an a300?
At the time they had a policy that if anyone arrived for the shuttle on time and they didn't have room for them, they would fly them out on another plane, even if it was only 1 passenger. So my flight was full and they didn't have any 727's available, but there was a A300 at the gate, So they took us out on that.
I love that!

I always loved flying TWA. They had the finest stewardess', besides Braniff...remember them? But Eastern also had some beauties.

My father worked for this airline forever til Frank Lorenzo ran it in the ground. Childhood memories of me striking against Eastern, lol!

@70s80s it wasnt real. no eastern commercial would use flight simulator x in their vid. and if isn't enough, read some of the below comments

This was the very first airline I took to Puerto Rico as a kid back in the late 60s.. They had good food back then.

Along with Pan Am and TWA, Eastern was another casualty of low-fare airlines. I don't see a point of paying more to sit a few hours in the air.

That's a good promo for a non existing airline. I'll bet you used Microsoft Flight Simulator X to do this ad. Very creative!

I'll never forget as a young kid in the 70's getting to ride in the L-1011 about 4 times. That plane rocked!

You are correct. The post that I was disputing stated that EA operated A 330's and A 340's, and that is what I meant to say, not A 300's.
