Good job on tossing the reserve right way. If you had enough altitude you could have fixed the problem. Good call at chucking the reserve. Glad to see you came out unharmed.
From what I have seen here it looks like that you did not applied any oposite brake at all and also did not counterstare it. Cravats are nasty thing but you must learn to automaticaly counterstare and applie oposite brake.
Bottomline is that you had good reaction for the reserve chute and all is ok......
I had to throw my reserve yesterday at Horse. Hit an extremely intense up draft and the wing went into an uncontrollable surge. I was at 400 ft agl. I tried to suppress the surge twice. But didn't have enough altitude. I threw at about 300 feet. Falling fast, i didn't think it was going to open. When it did open I had three seconds till I landed. I had the same smile that you did. Brian, San Diego
ouch! it was close! good thing you're ok :) this is to learn that we should always be alert, no matter what the weather conditions seem... thanx for sharing
A cracat is unlucky from that I think, but after not being active enough, as you say, you did all the right things. Any flight you walk away from is a good flight!
I think I first reached for my reserve at about 3:02 but didn't get my hand properly on it until about 3:05 - it caught air about 4 or 5 seconds later :)
Annecy? probably not this year, I fly back to Norway on the 28th April and then its job search time. I've been in Australia for 7 months! so Im coming back broke!
yeah collapses happen if you dont pay attention but always remember to active pilot, that collapse might have just been about a 30-20% one if you just feel at the wing at all times
Shit that was close. It seemed such a smooth trip into the tree. You don't realise how low you are until you start falling. It seemed you were below the hill in no time at all. It seems you made the right decision though. I can tell by the big smile on your face at the end.
I my opinion you should put more pressure at once in the left brake, ass hard as you almost get in a full stall (almost)... at this time you would stop the rotation and your body would go under the glider. Than you could control the rest. But I know that when we get in this kind of situation is hard to tell... Good Video!!!
I had about 60% Collapse while i was day dreaming up there (just boating around not paying to much attention because it was so calm) My weight fell to the wrong side (right collapsed side) and I didn't brake enough on the left side, the right side also Cravated then it dived, I was getting too low in the spiral to try fix things so I threw my reserve - it caught air about 1 second before impact. I didn't get hurt but my wing has some damage :( oh well - shit happens - a lesson learned :)
@SW33TDR34M5 Thanks I saved at least a minute and a half.

Yep true active flying would have most likely prevented this outcome :)

I rekon you didn't do anything wrong, no injuries, a nice video and a little bit wiser for it all.
You should do it more often!! :-)

Thanks for the advice and you are right, I should have given much more left brake.
- I have reacted a lot better on other collapses 'needless to say with much better results' LOL
