Check out the DT25 voicing demo videos by line6. An excellent player uses many different guitars and plays samples through the 4 main guitar amp types in the DT series (read Fender, Marshall, Vox, Mesa Boogie). THEN, you really can get why these amps are incredible. The production is well done too, so you can hear.
Seriously this is a fantastic amp. It sounds awesome, even next to my 6505+head and Marshall cabinet. I hate Line 6 Spider amps with a passion because I think they're awful, but this amp is fantastic.
Dudes.. You guys need to invest in a good shotgun mic. I love that you have a 57 on the cab but using the 58 for the interviews is not the way to go. Hear the hiss? Thats cuz you have to gain the 58 a ton to get levels when pulled off the mic that far. Buy a senheizer shotgun mic and keep the 57 for the guitar tone.
you know what would be good... ...if he actually played the guitar, that way i might actually know how good the amp sounds... im a fan of line 6 but they should really should get better people to demo their products...people who talk less...
This is a very good amp demo. I usually like a lot of guitar playing on amp demos but for some reason I feel pretty good about his balance of verbal presentation. Overall, from what I see and hear, I am very interested in this very versatile amp.
Right now I'm rocking the Pod HD500 Floorboard. If you make a change on the head it will change on the floor. That's pretty cool. Also the pairing features for true stereo are pretty cool (amp left, amp right with two or four). Also, I play the GT-10 and RP -1000 and brought them to Guitar Center and tried them through the head and loved being able to route both. Also of course the variax to the hd500 is cool. Someday these will be extinct, but I'll be happy I have one.
its to get all those "amp purist" fags out there to buy the damn thing.
You got so many guitar assholes who shit on anything digital. Well guess what? How many pros use pedals/FX racks? No tubes in them huh? There is nothing wrong with circuits.
Marshall came up with something to compete with this amp. The Marshall JMD 1, digital preamp voicings, with a tube poweramp.
In general you are right. I guess meanwhile, digitalizing can sound almost as same as tubing. The problem is: modelling the behaviour of tubes needs so much time, that it really gets expensive to buy the product that comes in the end. I guess the Pod HD 500 floorboards are near to the dynamics of tube amps, but you also pay your 500 - 600 bucks just for the preamp ;) so its the same price like full tube preamping. Only thing is more flexibility ;)
Ummm, this is a tube amp. The "Caution Hot Tubes" written on the back is so that Line 6 doesn't get sued by people frying the skin off their fingers.
...and there is a big difference between "circuit amps" (otherwise known a solid state), and modelling amps (otherwise known as digital). Though there are circuits on modelling amps, the tone comes from a completely different place.
Yeah I'm well aware of what a digital amp is, and I own more than just Marshall amps. Of course Line 6 doesnt want to be sued, but it that sign also serves as a double purpose.
The fact is that so many guitar players like to shit on anything digital or solid state and rave about how "only great amps use purely tubes and anything is cheap crap". When the fact remains that digital computer technology is getting so good that it replicates them nearly perfectly.
Agreed. Modelling has arrived. The Axe FX, and Eleven Rack are pretty amazing.
With the exception of the DT50 used with an HD (300, 400, 500) I don't think Line 6 is there yet, but that's just me. Of course, the DT50 is a tube amp, so Line 6 is back to square one.
I actually think they were on track with the Flextone III, but lost it when they came out with the Spyder series.
Too dam complicated, and the tones just dont do it for me.
Cant belive they Discontinued the Vetta II (which was an amazing head!) and now they are trying to promote the DT-50 which really doesnt have enough features and totally doesnt sound as good or have the versatility of the Vetta...
@MattChalkGuitar Don't know who you're trying to fool, I played around on one of these recently and it blows the vetta out of the water. The Vetta is essentially a pod in a head, this is a bogner designed analog tube head that is as versatile as anyone realistically needs. and it's priced at a much better price than the vetta, if you want the modeling aspect, pick up a POD HD500 and run it with the DT50 and you'll have all the features you would want.
I really like this amp but it's way too overpriced! there are alot better amps for less money than this amp has to offer..ie Blackstar ht-venue, Randall rt503 to name a few..
@Zhorellski I definitely agree with this as for the overpriced sentiment. Jet City makes killer soldano styled beasts for well below the price of this DT50.
Typical line 6 video... no playin.. if these things sounded so great.. it would speak for itself. all line 6 does is tell you about the technology.. but the technology doesn't mean anything if the amps doesn't sound good.
Typical line 6 video... no playin.. if these things sounded so great.. it woudl speak for itself. all line 6 does is tell you about the technology.. but thetechnology doesnt mean anythiung if the amps doesnt soudn good.
Wow, I hope that loud popping on channel switching isn't there when using a remote foot switch. "Here's my clean channel. And I'll switch to my dirty channel... POP... and dirty." Horrid.

JUST BUY A MESA RECTIFIER! Seriously, I have been through every single modeling amp and most tube amps. Why do you think every one of these modeling amps trys to "model" a Mesa Rectifier. Spend the extra cash and you'll be laughing at these videos like I am now... The clean channel on my dual rec will also embarrass every amp out there, especially line6... except maybe a Fender Twin Reverb.
Trust me, I own the line 6, flextone III, and it is awesome!. This is an upgrade that I will probably purchase. It has so many great options, and they all sound great.
.... i just bought one.. it arrived at my house... i got it out of the box.... i nearly came.... i plugged it in.... ..... .....ahem...cough cough.... typical line 6.... IT DOESN'T FRICKIN WORK
I'm just responding to MrStanletBird's Comment. I haven't had the chance to even get a glimps of or played through the HT50) head yet, but from some of the other videos I've seen, the distortion is really happening! I'm really a diehard Mesa user, and switched to the MK V heads, because, even though you can get the MK V to get that Uber gain sound, you can back off, and get still get plenty if dist., but not like the old 'Limp Biscut' mess. It also gives u ur dist., but cleans-up ur playing...
@bonetrainmusic Nah, there's still some DSP in it, not purely analog "modeling". Still, I was mildly interested in it when I tried it out today. Now I want it more than my next breath.
i hope L6 good luck with this amp. i have a spidervalve hd on a typical marshall 1960 and a randall 125xl and absolutely love it. set for life unless i become bored for whatever reason and just gotta buy something else for no particular reason
I played this baby at GC the other day, and the highs on the 4th setting were incredible! I have never heard a better lead setting from a live amp! My only wish is that it would give more saturation and distortion. Sounded too much like the new A7x albums where it seams like there isnt enough gain. But easily fixed with an ibanez tube screamer or MXR 10band eq! All in all I would buy this amp in a heart beat, JUST for that lead sound I got. It blew my mind!
Why dont they just make their own sound....they Always need to sound like a marshall or vox or mesa....so actually the amp could better be brandless since there is no line 6 sound
Line6 products do a great job for their market segment and they are definitely a cooler company and product than Peavey. However, IMO some of their products stretch a bit into ridicules territory especially with regards to price.
@biodot88 price + reliability. Every piece of Peavey gear I have has never really "died" but every single item made by Line 6 that I have purchased (regretfully now) has completely DIED. I don't trust the company.
@biodot88 I totally disagree. I have a POD HD500, and it has a bunch of amp models high quality effects. I have a shred, thrash, a great blues tone, a clean tones...everything!...a bunch of stuff!! And it cost only $500. Previously, I had a Boss DS-1, OD-1, YJM DOD, Boss Super Chorus, and a Boss Tuner, a phase 90.. I had a handful of tones for the same price as the Hd500. Dude, ur crazy, it is a bargain! I will post a video of many sounds to prove this point if people want to challenge this.
@arroyomusic Me Crazy?!! Are you gaslighting me man? Actually I was reflecting the other night how well my Line6 Axsys 212 kept up with me for 12+ years until I sold it. I wish they - similar to Porsche and their 911 - simply refined and refined the AX212 into revision 3223.2b or something rather than come out with a boatload of cheese amps and effects. I have a M13 that I like - similar to your POD hold the cheese...lol. j/k
For me I prefer guitar>Bunch o' Tubes>Speaker>ears and feeling it on my chest at volume.
To this: guitar>A/D converter to D/A converter whatever, resistors, chips, a little of this and a little of that>4 tubes>more solid state electronics>speaker>ears.
@biodot88 actually your tube amp has resistors in it too. If you knew anything about electronics analog devices have resistors and "solid state" electronics. Your tube amp uses diodes, resistors, capacitors. Not just tubes.
@glaurung26 ha ha ok you got me on the resistor thing. But I win because my amp doesn't come with a selector knob marked Recto, US Hi Gain or Rectified.
This amp is cool but there is not a footswitch to access all the amp topologies on each channel. All you can get is is a footswitch that just selects channel a or b.
I dont want to run a pod hd 500 to access my effects. I got my own stopmboxes.
I want to be able to select with my foot the diffrerent topolgies and class a or a/b, or pentode/triode.
If it's any consolation to Vetta owners, you probably have the best solid state amp that will ever be made. Because this DT50/HD500/JTVariax combination is definitely the way to move forward. Undoubtedly there will be some model changes or improvements down the line - but I wouldn't feel too burnt being stuck with this purchase.
What a joke. After all this time, this is what Line 6 comes out with? I thought they were all about digital modelling? Now its hybrid gear like the spider valve. Before you know it they will be making modular amps like Egnater and Randall.
This is really exciting. Line 6 is doing some pretty amazing things in the amp world. It'll be interesting to see how the 4 voicings stack up to say, a Plexi, Twin Reverb, AC30, Triple Rec, etc. Can't wait to try one of these out.
@Hoagiemon its a bogner man...i know line 6 has a stamp on it but its basically a bogner. so for both amp and cab with the diversity you get from it...yea totally worth it
It's so refreshing to know that this amp has ALL these different modes so that when I DO play each night of the week in a different band (like anyone really does this) at a different place, I'm covered. People buy these things, find ONE setting they like and make all the other setting sound similar and before they know it they have a single channel amp. The guy does have a bitchin' voice though!
@nata72 That's awfully self righteous of you. This was a pretty decent review although it could have had slightly more playing to get a more complete feel for the gear
The amp only has 2 12AX7's? Then they are lying if they claim it has no digital modeling. One of those tubes has to be a phase inverter for the power section.
This is a real tube amp? With a tube preamp? Like a Vox Night Train? (Or any other tube amp I could of picked...) Pedal Friendly? Afforadabillity? Works with a Valve Distortion?
jesus.. i cant really make a picture of how it sounds.. i ran through the original line6 review of this amps reviewed by PhilX.. he talks 3 minutes about it without actually showing us any sound you may get out of it and now this.. line6 should start making amps and not focus on marketing and promoting.. i clicked this review and again, no tones.. he plays like one note on each channel setting and that's it..
@jukozi but would you really want the guy to just play for a minute shreding and shit and showing off, i wouldnt, i want a few notes, switch to different channels to compare, i think he reviewed very well
@dareheaven2 no but you do want him to open it up and hear how it sounds more than a "dun dun dunnnn". They need to hire tim pierce or lukather or a session guru that will come demo the amp and actually play good stuff and really show people what it can do. just have a line 6 guy running the amp and changing knobs. Andy timmons or John petrucci's demos on youtube of their amps are like the perfect online demos you wanna see of how an amp will sound.
@shlokda well i guess i just have a different opinion, i like to listen to a single note sustained and hear every part of the tone, i cant hear the exact tone when some guy comes up an starts shreding, thats just good for one thing...showing off, but i guess we just have different listening styles
This is mightily impressive. I've never had a real tube amp, always gone with MFX modellers. Watched the POD HD demo and thought (...), watched this and thought (!!!)
I like the way he make sure to say "no modeling". I'll take that to mean it's 100% tube circuitry and all analog. It sounds great, I wish he had played a bit more varying licks and runs to give a better understanding of each of the voices. I know I'll be checking these out when they become available.
@ArielsSmartyPants Its not 100% analog if you read the FAQ on Line6s website it still says it has HD modeling with analog components.
"Each one adapts and adjusts based on what the other is doing. For example, at high volumes the HD amp modeling technology “backs off” to allow for the natural power-tube distortion to take over and color the tone. At low volumes, the opposite happens. As a result, DT50 yields outstanding “sweet spot” tone at all volume levels"
I feel like the host (Shawn Hammond) here is not properly appreciating the degree to which this is groundbreaking =| Like I just commented on the POD HD video, I don't even really LIKE modeling technologies, and I'm TOTALLY impressed by these new developments! lol
that voice reminds me of petrucci overlord when he says DOWN ! TO THE FIRES OF HELL !

I want to be able to select with my foot the diffrerent topolgies and class a or a/b, or pentode/triode.
stratofink5772 1 year ago
@stratofink5772
If you switched it with your foot you would hear a pop each time you change something...not good for playing live

Pass. Life is too short to play another hybrid solid state amp.
biodot88 1 year ago
If it's any consolation to Vetta owners, you probably have the best solid state amp that will ever be made. Because this DT50/HD500/JTVariax combination is definitely the way to move forward. Undoubtedly there will be some model changes or improvements down the line - but I wouldn't feel too burnt being stuck with this purchase.

What a joke. After all this time, this is what Line 6 comes out with? I thought they were all about digital modelling? Now its hybrid gear like the spider valve. Before you know it they will be making modular amps like Egnater and Randall.
richedie 1 year ago
@richedie that would be amazing
dekanbackward 1 year ago
This is really exciting. Line 6 is doing some pretty amazing things in the amp world. It'll be interesting to see how the 4 voicings stack up to say, a Plexi, Twin Reverb, AC30, Triple Rec, etc. Can't wait to try one of these out.

AMS is selling the head and cab for around $2000! That's a little much for Line 6 stuff.
Hoagiemon 1 year ago 11
@Hoagiemon Not really, with all the options and tones that are available with this amp compared to some amps that are 2500-3000 and have way less.
b1rdman17 1 year ago
@Hoagiemon its a bogner man...i know line 6 has a stamp on it but its basically a bogner. so for both amp and cab with the diversity you get from it...yea totally worth it

Does anyone know what this will be retailing at?
brickwall595 1 year ago
It's so refreshing to know that this amp has ALL these different modes so that when I DO play each night of the week in a different band (like anyone really does this) at a different place, I'm covered. People buy these things, find ONE setting they like and make all the other setting sound similar and before they know it they have a single channel amp. The guy does have a bitchin' voice though!

Nothing like getting an unbiased review from a LINE 6 employee.
nata72 1 year ago
@nata72 That's awfully self righteous of you. This was a pretty decent review although it could have had slightly more playing to get a more complete feel for the gear

has line 6 finally made a good amp? id have to try it but its looking pretty good:P

@NZLeduc all line 6 amps are good.... this one happens to be really good :)

So are they Fixed Bias? or they have trim pot?
Zhorellski 1 year ago
The amp only has 2 12AX7's? Then they are lying if they claim it has no digital modeling. One of those tubes has to be a phase inverter for the power section.
elvezrulz 1 year ago
@elvezrulz Maybe they use that one preamp tube to warm up the digital preamp LOL.

What about the Vetta?

im afraid of the popping and clicking while switching....seems to do that a lot
firstgearlead 1 year ago
This is a real tube amp? With a tube preamp? Like a Vox Night Train? (Or any other tube amp I could of picked...) Pedal Friendly? Afforadabillity? Works with a Valve Distortion?

So this is NOT a modeling amp?

jesus.. i cant really make a picture of how it sounds.. i ran through the original line6 review of this amps reviewed by PhilX.. he talks 3 minutes about it without actually showing us any sound you may get out of it and now this.. line6 should start making amps and not focus on marketing and promoting.. i clicked this review and again, no tones.. he plays like one note on each channel setting and that's it..
jukozi 1 year ago 36
@jukozi but would you really want the guy to just play for a minute shreding and shit and showing off, i wouldnt, i want a few notes, switch to different channels to compare, i think he reviewed very well
dareheaven2 11 months ago
@dareheaven2 no but you do want him to open it up and hear how it sounds more than a "dun dun dunnnn". They need to hire tim pierce or lukather or a session guru that will come demo the amp and actually play good stuff and really show people what it can do. just have a line 6 guy running the amp and changing knobs. Andy timmons or John petrucci's demos on youtube of their amps are like the perfect online demos you wanna see of how an amp will sound.
shlokda 11 months ago
@shlokda well i guess i just have a different opinion, i like to listen to a single note sustained and hear every part of the tone, i cant hear the exact tone when some guy comes up an starts shreding, thats just good for one thing...showing off, but i guess we just have different listening styles
dareheaven2 10 months ago
@jukozi , yeah they just go blah blah, as if people cared more about the features than the sounds.
luigiperso 10 months ago
@jukozi If you actually know about gear and what he's talking about the amount of tone he demonstrates is all you need to be sold on it...

This is mightily impressive. I've never had a real tube amp, always gone with MFX modellers. Watched the POD HD demo and thought (...), watched this and thought (!!!)

Bogner Alchemist in Line 6 casing!?
Zhorellski 1 year ago
I like the way he make sure to say "no modeling". I'll take that to mean it's 100% tube circuitry and all analog. It sounds great, I wish he had played a bit more varying licks and runs to give a better understanding of each of the voices. I know I'll be checking these out when they become available.
ArielsSmartyPants 1 year ago
@ArielsSmartyPants Its not 100% analog if you read the FAQ on Line6s website it still says it has HD modeling with analog components.
"Each one adapts and adjusts based on what the other is doing. For example, at high volumes the HD amp modeling technology “backs off” to allow for the natural power-tube distortion to take over and color the tone. At low volumes, the opposite happens. As a result, DT50 yields outstanding “sweet spot” tone at all volume levels"

Good idea. Don't personally like all the sounds, but it has good promise.
arifreeman 1 year ago 2
i wonder if this will be accepted by the market.
NeckPickup 1 year ago
I feel like the host (Shawn Hammond) here is not properly appreciating the degree to which this is groundbreaking =| Like I just commented on the POD HD video, I don't even really LIKE modeling technologies, and I'm TOTALLY impressed by these new developments! lol
