  • Veganath - Whether your comment is fact,or just big words...I do not know. However I believe Sams point is that evidence and logic in this case out weighs the idea that we have a soul that lives forever in any kind of cognative way.. Say being able to feels the flames of a hell or remembering things we aren't able to remember while alive.

  • Sam with his expressed appreciation of the contemplative religious(spiritual) traditions has never made a commitment to knowing with absolute certainty that consciousness has it's origins in the biology of the brain.

I'm inclined to go with the Vedic position, in that the brain works more like a receptacle for consciousness & therefore when the receptacle is broken at the time of death the consciousness is released

Science as it is today hasn't been able to establish the origins of consciousness

  • @veganath Science is, at its core, our best attempt at understanding the world around us. Nothing about science is absolutely certain. Doesn't mean we can start substituting any belief we please for stuff science hasn't explained yet. It's called an argument from ignorance, and people have done this for the history of humanity. They saw fire? Fire God. Thunder? It was Thor! And yet we understand all of these things perfectly now.

How do you back up your Vedic position? Any evidence?
