The Dinobots were Autobots, but a seperate faction that often went off on their own. They didn't combine into a larger robot. The teams that did in G1 are Constructicons (Devastator), Stunticons (Menasor), Combaticons (Bruticus), Seacons (Piranacon), Terrorcons (Abominus), Predacons (Predaking), Aerialbots (Superion), Protectobots (Defensor), Technobots (Computron). The dinobots were built by the autobots after the autobots landed on earth and uncovered dinosaur bones, those were used as inspiration.

The Constructicons were built by the decepticons after inspiration from seeing the vehicles at work at a construction site. They combine and transform into devastator.

The dinosaur forms were far more appealing to themselves... the only one who spent any time in robot mode was swoop when he had to walk with them since he wasn't capable of much ground movement in pteranodon form.

I agree tho... they may have been better fighters in robot mode, what with all of them having ranged weapons and even better: energon swords.

This was one of my favourite Transformers episodes. I love how in US media, whenever anyone is supposed to be highly intelligent or refined, they're given a Queen's English accent. On the Transformers, Perceptor and Skylinx are prime examples. Think about all the films and television you watch and what the more refined/intelligent people sound like. Disney is the biggest culprit of them all and why many Americans still think the UK still has an empire and is the bastion of good manners.

Well you have a point! They all are robots. I just surmised that because the Quintessons said that the Transformers both Autobot and Decepticon were made for different functions. Was the episode "The Five Faces Of Evil"? Anyway I thought since the Cybertronian robots the 'Quints built had different entire functions-'Cons for military applications and 'Bots are consumer material that they might be seen as racially different or seperate rather. The Marvel comics have a different explanation.

Grimlock was one of the coolest transformers ever. I just wished the dinobots could've been a combiner instead of separate. Now a dinobot gestalt would quite possibly be the strongest & possibly best combiner ever...even stronger than Predaking or any other combiner for that matter.

Well firstly Frenzy gets halved, KickBack is beheaded, Predaking is also halved, Skywarp, LazerBeak and Ramjet explode midflight, and Menasor is literally ripped apart; It's claimed that Skids is dead after he is ripped out of Prime's Trailer by the Gestalt, so I guess looking back, the Decepticons were the ones who really got it, but in the end, Prime had to kill the Dinobots. I think the comic was an excuse for the creators to satisty their...oil lust.
