Ball lightning. A naturalistic explanation can often be the most beautiful and humbling. Good thing it's the truth too.
btw UFO does not = alien.
That is one cognitive bias that needs to be fixed in you people. An inability to recognize or account for the phenomenon we are observing should not be, in itself, an implicit assertion of agency.
Could be a military flare. Being close to near-years, its possible someone could have been launching them. Was this object falling down or moving horizontally?
Yesterday We were in the car on the mcay highway and say a HUGE cluster of lights... we suspected it would have been east point shopping center, as we turn onto the highway that goes onto crown street we saw orgish red lights in the sky and the we HUGE... and they were not moving... About 15 mins later they were gone!!! The lights looked just like the one u saw only bigger and brighter!
I have been seeing those lights around the saint john area over the past six months and tonight i have seen a cluster of seven or more flying over the uptown area.... while driving down king street i have seen a couple more and one stood out very large looking over the water. pulsating its orange color like a plate on its edge moving upwards very slowly.
i saw this same type of thing but not on the same night maybe a few days after jan1 in NY up state over this mountian which it moved slowly then really fast and then the lights started to flash really fast and then it dissapeared and then it returned in 5 mins but in a differnet location really freaky
Ok, we saw 2, together, then 2 more separately, within a few minutes of each other, from west to east, as we were driving north, in Nashville, Tn, approximately 6pm, on Jan. 1st, 2011. Kind of exciting, but kind of weird. Not lanterns, and we weren't high!
We just saw the same thing in Carleton Place, Ontario at about 9:20 pm Eastern Time. We saw about 10 lights traveling in pairs with about 20 seconds between each pair. They were coming from the south east and headed north east. Amazing!
I saw the same thing in hawaii... i think you replied on a blog on the net to my comment. so crazy it looks the same as what i saw. so many people across teh world seen it. vids on my page thanks for posting

Same in Perth, W Australia. Noone can give me an explanation. Observatories out. Surely a pilot had to have seen this?

they are called chinese balloons all they are is like minature air balloons the light is fire to make the balloon rise

I saw 30 of them emerge down from the sky on Jan 1, 12:20 am- I have a good picture of 14 of them...they were moving from northeast.
