  • We had one in Austin TX in the eighties growing up, man I really miss those days.

  • This is hilarious....and cringe worthy

  • The Showbiz pizza in Oklahoma City where I used to go to had fights and drug dealing going on. I hope yours is better.

  • This is really terrific footage! The show is in great condition. Matthew isn;t a brat, he just wants to get his Rock-afire fix the same way we want out Family Guy fix now! If I have a new Family Guy to watch, I'm all happy, but if I have to watch a repeat, I will, but begrudgingly. That's a true fan. If only Mat had known how hard we were trying to come up with new material more often.

  • @cjonz613 This isn't spam! Who flagged this?

  • Oh man I loved the '110' film camera. It was the only one I swore upon as a child b/c 35mm was too complicated. lol But we were not fortunate enough to have the Rockabilly explosion in our CEC we just had the CEC, hen, the hound and Mr Much but we did have 'The King' lol

  • I had my first and last gathering with my (girl friend) at the age of 5 (she was 6) at Showbiz seeing this show.

  • Comment removed

  • i'm sorry but how can you not like the rock afire explosion?

well i guess people do have their opinions.

  • I loved the Rock-afire Explosion. I just wanted to see the new showtape.

  • They played "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" at the party I went to.

  • I knew the lyrics to this song!

  • Wow, that totally takes me back to many memories in the mid/late 80's, and the flash bar camera too!

  • So adorable! Man, I miss the 80's. I have two young kids now, and I recently took them to Chuck E. Cheese's and I was so disappointed.

In the 80's we had things like ShowBiz with the scary animatronic characters that looked like they could suck your soul out, cartoons like Ren & Stimpy and the Garbage Pail Kids. No wonder our generation is so delightfully twisted now.

  • That's my favorite song!

  • i remember this place.

  • Oh, yeah! I clapped to their music and danced.

  • Yeah, I've only experienced Rock-afair via youtube...you got to see it for real...something I would give anything for. So quit complaining!

Shame they don't have anything like this nowadays. I'm truly convinced that the 80s/90s really were the best time to be a kid.

  • as a kid of five in 1988 I always peaked through the curtain between breaks. Lifeless eyes staring a hole through you. Yet I was fascinated and even got up on stage and started dancing. Boy was I in trouble. lol...still fun times though and good to see rock a fire making it huge on youtube. Us old guys have finally got our childhood back in some form. No sponge bob, no hanna montana crap. Just good old memories.

  • I had my 4th birthday here. Thanks for posting the video. This brings back so much memories. Especailly (spelling) since I actually remember this show!

  • HA!!!! 1:07 cue the 80's music

  • Still better than American Idol

  • want the truth ask a drunk or a kid (with a flash bar camera)

  • Heh, I saw this Video on Showbiz Pizza initially, and all I could think of was 'Why's that kid complaining so much?! Least he got to go to see Rock-afire!" I have no idea if we had any of these places that featured them in Upstate NY, but I distinctly remembering going to CEC a few times, and when I discovered these guys later on they totally blew those CEC losers away for me! Wish I could've seen them back then in their heyday. But yea, you were kinda bratty...*chuckles*

  • Thats the "Tune Machine" show.

  • WTF!!

  • WTF!!

  • WTF!!

  • Did that camera have....a FLASH BAR????

  • that was totally a flash bar!!!!

  • haha thats what i was thinking too!!! it looks just like the one i had when i was 8 too! it was a kodak 110 with a flash bar lol.

  • ahh yes.. peaking under the show biz curtain..

    such an eerie childhood fascination

  • ...and why does the mom sound like susan from old school sesame street. when she says, "positive." it's uncanny.

  • this is frickin' brilliant. screaming at the stage, "last NOVEMBER!" this is wonderful.

reminds me of my tape of circus pizza place... a bought-out showbiz. 8th bday, '88. boss everyone around, "Nooooo, we gotta go to this game..."

  • years ago at my cousins birthday we held up the arm of the drummer to prevent it from drumming and it broke :D

  • i see both sides

  • "well Matt maybe we just need to be more appreciative" LOL!

  • *giggles hysterically*

Although, I really can't talk. I spent a friends birthday at Showbiz asking his mom when I could go to the Toys R Us next door. I've since apologized (and MORE than made up for by taking my friends neice to Chuck E. Cheese) but I laugh because my friends neice asked me the same thing, and my friends mom laughed remembering my youth. All I can say is "Suck it, Karma" *giggles*

  • @crosspaths10 LMAO

  • Jal8919536, I think you mean Barboursville, WV? the place is still in business but has moved across the street to a new location and aquired the show from it's Ashland KY store as the one at the older location was not in the best of shape and the Ashland store was closing/

  • Love this! My brother had his b-day there in 1984, and I still have a 45 of the animatronic band. Also, I love how you put your arm around your friend to explain how terrible the show was. Hilarious!

  • Haha That's funnier each time I watch it Matt...to think they'd be gone soo soon after that...probably didn't like THAT very much either!

Kind of cool you ended up programming for them later.

  • Great memories here...awesome. I had my birthday there in 82-83.

  • WOW Flashback. I am 27 years old and I remember going to showbiz for my birthdays in the 1980s (Great Time)

  • How old is that kid..30? lol

  • When in the 80's was this? I remember going there as a child. This brings back so many memories of the 80's for me.

  • I like the one where they took a picture of mitzi!

  • ..which is funny, because my kid sister and all of her friends complain about the lame shows, the robots that barely move, and the "baby" games as they call them.. so i just take them to a competing franchise, and they have a blast!

  • Cool vid. I wish i had a birthday party at Showbiz when i was a kid. Oh well we all have had our moments of being less than graceful. LOL

PS The background song is by Steve Winwood, Valerie (well known for the refrain "Call on Meeeeeeee, call on Me, call on Meeeeeeee, call on me. . ."

  • woooooooow wow it took me back to the 80's this is great, i loved it

  • Lmao. Haha. Don't worry. We were all brats. But you were cute. x3 Aww.

  • wow man!!! This brings back so many memories. I was actually sacred of the characters till I was about 7

  • And thus began Matt's mission to one day program animatronics and provide young children with a better experience than his own at Chuckee Cheese's.

Save this so someday VH1 can use it to show your humble beginnings and inspiration in your documentary.

  • where there at, and what years is?

    I wanna to see it

  • F***in' awesome! Yeah, we were all pretty spoiled.

  • What's that Eighties song playing in the background when the boy's complaining about the show's automatic loop songs?

  • it's peter gabriel i think, i couldn't say what song it is though.

  • The song is called "Valerie" by Steve Winwood.

  • It's to bad Showbiz Pizza isn't around anymore. Went there as a kid in the early to mid 80's towards 1988. Took a ton of pictures of the band, Thc Rock-A Fire Explosion with Dook, Fatz, Billy Bob, etc.

Now when I take my cousin to Chuck E Cheese Pizza, I just think the place doesn't compare as great as Showbiz Pizza.

  • If you live anywhere near Barboursville, TN there's an original Showbiz Pizza still in operation. Good luck!

  • dude, that video was like ripping memories from my brain...the showbiz I went to as a kid was exactly the same...road blasters sweet

  • LOL, I was the same way Matt! I already saw this one... :( My mom would also say something to that effect.

  • Gotta love the 80s music in the background :-)

I loved the 80s. I just wish I was a little older than 5 years old lol

  • Matt, the comments you made after the show were hilarious. This is what YouTube is all about.

  • awesome video. We were all brats one time or another at that age. I tripped over the power cord at a Showbiz Pizza place in Appleton, Wisconsin and the entire set of robotic animals stopped moving!! Wish my parents had money for a video camera back then because that would have been hilarious to have now!
