If you like John Carpenter's scores check out my channel. I made a concept record that involves deconstructing Carpenter's scores and remixing Lil Waynes tracks with the deconstructed scores. It is super dark and heavy.
the glasses he wears are called hoffman glasses, im pretty sure that this reffers too the inventor of the drug acid (albert hoffman) coincidence? i think not, wear the glasses- open your mind...
@maxpayne232 I hadn't watched 'In the Mouth of Madness' for a long, long time when I made this list, but I recently revisited it. It's probably his best film from the 90s and perhaps the last 'classic' Carpenter. It's beautifully shot as well, which is surprising because some of his less visually appealing films like Vampires had the same cinematographer as this. In any case, I agree,I'd probably swap Escape From L.A. for that film if I made this list now. Thanks for commenting :)
@Areashiftybun Well I agree. I love it too and it's probably my favourite because when i saw it as a kid it scared the hell out of me. Today i still think it's a fun movie to watch. Sam Neill was great and i loved the ending.
Unfortunately i didn't see The Carpenter Classics like Halloween and Escape from New York as a child. So they didn't have that much of an impression on me but they're still great films.
@Areashiftybun Hihi, :) no, don't swap Escape from L.A., you were the one that made me rewatch it and get into the satirical and parodical elements that made it so good :D thanks, hihih
I've even changed my mind on Ghosts of Mars, first time I saw it I felt most of it was rubbish but later I rewatched it and could see how much of a Carpenter picture it is. At the same time it shares a trashy feeling with Vampires. I wonder what made Carpenter go in that direction with those films.
"Last Rites: The Return of Sebastian Vasilis" starring Bruce Campbell as Karl, Jennifer Anniston as Barbara, Gene Simmons as Sebastian, Randy Quaid as Lyndon, Robert Deniro as Abssi and Viggo Mortonson as Udo, directed by Sam Raimi. A guy can dream!
Don't listen to him. This crazy scottish accent is one of the best features of this video. Great comments on great movies, although I have a different ranking.
@dtowninthisbiatch Well it isn't anywhere close to the quality of Carpenter's earlier work, but I still think it has its moments. I always put this into perspective, the producers forced Carpenter to recast Statham, sidelining him and casting Ice Cube in the role of Desolation. His lead was replaced a week before shooting, not to mention that Natasha Henstridge was ill during the shoot. Carpenter was so disillusioned with the process he all but retired. It's a guilty pleasure.
i've had a panic attack once when watching The Thing, i had already seen it many times before but i was awake for over 20 hours, drank a lot of cola and i hadn't eaten properly xD it happened when the dog mutated, i just got scared shitless and all my hairs were standing up straight even though i had seen it many times before.
assault on precint 13 was i would say the most influencial film to most of the seige films you see now.Its 100% Carpenter.I would say Ridely Scott was masively influenced by carpenter on the way carpenter lit htat film and many others ..although bladerunner was unique in the way it was lit there is a carpenter feel to it.
lol, im american; and this isnt america as you would probably call it. its an american film review on the internet; america doesnt own the internet. i hate spelling bee champion word police as more than anyone; so i get you there. but try to keep in mind the internet is like outer space. everyone views it
My all time favorite mobvie from him is Big trouble in little China, I saw it when I was a little kid and loved it very much, but I freaked out from the monster LOL
john the best he made my most fav movie ever he made my most favirut horror movies the thing halloween halloween 2 and the fog and all that i seen the remake of the fog well not sure if ther is and it whas good so thbe origanal has to be better
Yeah, what's up with that. It was such a goddamn retread and inferior to the original in pretty much every way imaginable. I mean, "New York" had Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Harry Dean Stanton, Donald Pleasance and frickin Isaac Hayes. Oh, and Carpenter's then-wife Adrienne Barbeau. And that awesome original music? Carpenter did that shit himself.
That's a very good idea I might take you up on that. The top ten vids are going to be a more regular thing after my short film "the figure" come out (you can see the tailer on this account)
Unfortunately, they are remaking the Thing, Escape from New York and there are rumours about big trouble in Little China. They've already remade the Fog, Assault on precinct 13 and Halloween. It only serves to show how good the originals are.Hollywood needs new ideas.
John Carpenter makes me proud to be from Kentucky. So here is my top 5.
1. Halloween "Of course"
2. The Thing
3. They Live
4. Escape from NY
5. The Fog
4.

It's "it's" not "its". "Its" infers belonging to, "it's" is a contraction of "it is", which is what you should have used.
When you learn to write the language I'll learn to speak it.

I guess I can kinda see your point about "L.A." being spoof, but I think I could die happily without ever seeing it again. Once is more than enough.
Now "Big Trouble in Little China"? There's a spoof. A good one.

Carpenter should do a Snake Plissken film, but not with an "escape" them. More like, Snake Plissken: Cleveland, or Vs. etc.

wouldnt have included escape from L.A at all in a top ten.
