I think that it is easy to be intimidated by the first movement, but it really is just a question of time and patients when practicing....I found it easier to learn the 2nd movement first (hardest one) followed by the 3rd (the easiest one) then you feel good because it is like your almost done so the first movement doesn't seem so bad anymore.
Sir Galway made this so much harder for himself by tonguing practically all of the piece. Nearly half of the staccato phrases he is playing are actually slurred, in the score.
I have hear it yet at the ARD Musikwettbewerb 2010, played from Loic Schneider. Thanks so much for up loading this. GREAT. Awesome. Must be very hard to play it... even almost unplayable.
This piece is awesome. I love the fact that he takes a breath before the High D on the first page and second to last page. Makes the piece seem real. (and gives the rest of us license to do it!)
This sounds like a nice little piece to sightread on my day off! Seriously, anyone who can play this entire piece well is a pretty darn good flutist in my view. I remember hearing JG say he hated this piece years ago at a masterclass. Sounds like a pretty good work out to me.
we played this concerto in 4 year conservatory.im in first year(^_^)

Master this one and you'll never have trouble in the high register ever again(...until some jerk writes something even more difficult, that is).

Here's how you get through this:
A lot of practice, and when you play, breathe, and a bit of luck.
