A considerably more mannered rendition...It's not even Dionne's definitive version. But sometimes I'm in the mood to hear a good song in a new way. It's the proof of a strong song that, it can take whatever an artist does with it....and this is a REALLY strong song. In its own way, this adds to the other recorded, more straight, versions.
I like an earlier live version that someone posted. Made me want to cry. It looked to be from the mid to late 60s. Now that was a very nuanced performance and so moving.
I agree, I think this is the ultimate live concert version of this song as has been song by Ms. Warwick. She inflected it with passionate and soaring vocals and demonstrates her legendary vocal dexterity.
I completely disagree with you pcburke. I think Dionne remade her song over fantastically. I love the arrangement. I had the album and now I have it on cd. Dionne has always been very musical technically and feeling wise. She had a great voice. I do think that smoking has not been kind to her voice now, but back then she was in her prime on this recording.
I think that she did a great job of relaying the feelings of this song. My father passed away a few days ago and this was by far his favorite song. He used to sing, whistle and hum it all the time. He loved it so much that I'm going to have it played at his funeral. This song makes me sad because it reminds me of him but it's definately a classic and it will always have a special meaning to me. I LOVE YOU DAD.........MISS YOU MORE THAN WORDS CAN EVER EXPRESS..
I was inaccruate in pre-scoring this vid. She sounds awful. This is below her standards. She's trying tooooo hard. She should have just sang the son with her heart. The song uncovers the naked raw feeling of being used by a player. Everyone can relate. There's no need to work the song.
Magnifique, j'adore ♥♥♥, merci ♥♥♥))

Its a shame Dionne came across like a bully and a arrogant fool on the Apprentice.

This is a great interpretation...by one of the greatest female vocalists of at least my time.
