hey is there any name for the step that damon does in first couple of minutes...the head drop first and then chest and then head again and so on...i actually need a tutorial for that...
This is the most retarded comment I have ever heard about dance. If you actually were a good dancer yourself, you would realize that feeling the music IS THE KEY to being a good dancer. If you feel the music, you will basically NEVER stuff up. The more you feel the music, the better your performance will be. But why am I telling you this? You obviously aren't a dancer because you don't even know the most simplest thing about dancing - FEELING THE MUSIC. Good luck to you.
@brentonio I just looked at your vids. this brotha is all dat and them some. I don't agree that it's either or, it's and and both. I don't know if you lived when locking and pop locking came about but I did and did it well in clubs and danced on soultrain and this brother is one of many who knows what he's doing. Now the whole world is copying this shit and making money off of it and claiming it, 40 or more years later, as their own but still calling blacks the N word. Thieves & charlatans
this damon frost he dont need groove... nor does he need to feel the music.. everything fits in well... besides the guy is a fuckin role model for pop lockers. him and salah actually are the best pop lockers around...
Dude, just the way you talk tells me you know nothing about popping or locking. Firstly, there is no such thing as 'pop locking'. You either pop or lock, there is no in-between. Secondly, I agree that Salah is good, but he is no where near the best because all he does is tricks. I don't think I have ever seen Salah just dance without doing tricks. And if you are saying this guy is as good as Salah, and the two of them are the best, you SERIOUSLY don't know sh!t about dance.
Dude, you have no idea what you're talking about so stop making stupid comments like this. You're only making yourself look more stupid. Any well-trained, good popper knows that what this guy is doing is tricks. Seeing as Frosts' technique is really good, he must have been doing it for years, and therefore he himself would probably know that all of this is just tricks. Anyways, live in your denial if it makes you feel better.
hahaha. these aren't tricks. what he is doing is a combination of boogaloo and waving, with some other stuff thrown in. both of these fall under the umbrella term "popping," which refers to many sub-styles
@AlSmoothikins Dude i aint gonna start debating with you, but what this guy is doing is mostly tricks. There is a diff between dancing and doing moves, this guy is just doing moves. He is isolating and waving. Don't get me wrong, he is incredibly good technique wise, but without groove, a dancer will always lack the key to becoming the ultimate dancer.
It' stupid to debate this because you just have a different definition of tricks than i do.
Its definition is in a grey area with a lot of dancers, and depending on who you talk to, they will say something different. I would define a trick as something that can accentuate a dance but is also unaccessible to most other dancers for a variety of reasons. The two most common are hyper-extension of joints and/or prop use.
Salah has crowd control down to a science. He uses entertainment factors as well as dance factors. Think about it. Commonly, he has one prop with him. I've seen various ones, such as: baton, glasses, tissue. He seems to always pull one of these out during a battle.
sticking to the definition i gave above, another one of his tricks would be his hyper-ext. shoulders and elbows.
What these all have in common are that they are not DANCE moves.
something that seems as unaccessible as Salah or Flat-top's strobing and Damon or Chbeeb's waving as tricks, but they are not.
They are highly trained techniques. They have taken the waving technique and transplanted it to the whole body. What they do takes time to learn. The isolation factor alone is already jaw dropping, but the creative movements they come up with are incredible as well.
Your posts make me think you, yourself, don't take dancing seriously. As you progress you'll learn this.
@brentonio what in the hell is this where are his grooves. he's a black man who helped pioneer the stuff. what in the world is going on today when nonblacks judge blacks on their own dances? Holy crap, have I died and gone to hell?
It doesnt matter. The mansz clearly got talent. His face... it kills me how relaxed he looks. Thats what makes you that much more professional. Loved it!
its not "always the same" maybe some of hiz moves are signature moves, and as we all kno, any great dancer has one or a few signature/trademark moves they pull out, since some dancers will do one move and only be remembered for it, if its great, then not even do it again.

It takes many years to get good at popping, but keep at it and you will eventually get good.
On another note, this guy knows his tricks really well, but he just isn't really dancing. :\ Where is his groove?
brentonio 3 years ago
this is damon frost, his groove is in his dancing and the fact that hes at his age still keepin it funky, thats his groove
SpringSauce23 3 years ago
Um, no that is not what groove is. All he is doing is tricks and he's not really feeling the music. If you don't feel the music, you have no groove.
Boogaloo Sam is like 60 years old now and keeping it funkier than this guy.
