  • when ever i start to lose my faith in mankind; i come to a frank marino youtube video and marvel at how many people there are out there who know quality when they see it afterall.god bless you people, you give me strenth to csrry on

  • under rated? where i come from frank marino has been concidered the best electric guitarist in the world for over 30 years

  • That looks like one of brian mays guitars standing in the background.

  • This is awesome. Granada Theater is awesome. Opeth is playing there in October. Awesome.

  • Many blast him for being a Jimi clone......1st of all he has a boat load of his own stuff and what's astonishing is how good he plays the songs of one of the grand master guitar players of all time. Just who the hell can play Jimi's stuff better than Frank? I don't care who you are (I'm a Blues nut!) when you hear Blues just grindin' your gut like this then I don't care if I hear it a 1000 times.....it's soul bending gut bucket brother!!!!!!

  • jesus he's intense, Brilliant

  • the most underated gutairist in the universe

  • Obviously, a very jazz influenced player. Even the progression is loaded with 3-6-2-5's, and Frank's playing is much more than simply beating pentatonics to death. You can hear whole tone scales, and altered runs and a lot of melodic variation that shows that he is accomplished in jazz and uses it in some kick-ass rock and roll and in this case, blues.

  • where in dallas was this?

  • @TheBolillo310

Granada Theater on Greenville. Pretty much the best venue in Dallas for me.

  • cuando venis a la argentina frankkkk !!??????????

  • A player that is very underrated by many guitarists (in UK anyway). He has great technical command that goes unnoticed cos he plays mainly blues-rock, where technique isn't always the main concern.

  • stormy monday

  • I've been a fanof Franks since the begining...Every young and up-and comming guitarist should be made to watch and listen!...It ain't gonna get any better than this!

  • This is not red house, it is stormy monday - listen to the changes!

  • well.. I do like Frank.. but I must say no matter who played this this in my opinion has to rank up there as one of the best Blues solos of all times.. Yes.. it is not the standard 12 bar sequence and uses another classic variation that goes to the VI.. and this helps in getting out of the rutt of the standard blues solos.. but nonetheless its briliant through and through .. I add this to my list of "Best of" stuff.. which Frank already is on for "Johnny b Good" and "All Along the Watchtower".

  • First saw Frank Marino in 1978. To date, Every kid who plays the guitar that I have introduced Frank to, have become instant fans. Trust me, the kids know good stuff when they hear it! Thank God!!!!!

  • I remember in '79 in a packed convention center in Dallas, this cat blew everyone away including myself. I was 22 then and still my favorite. Man, whatever happened to rock n roll? The stuff today doesn't even touch them good ol' days...WOW, what memories!

  • One of the few blues-rock based players with a strong enough technique to be just as convincing with a clean sound as he is with distortion.

  • Damn, Normandie Theatre, Two Mountains Quebec, 1971, or 72. 15 years old and fell in love with the blues........... ain't 15 anymore, but still love the blues

  • This was a great show ! Whoever filmed this must have been pretty close to me , I was right at Frank's feet throughout the show . One of the all time greats on guitar . I love the Granada Theater ! Met Frank after the show and thought he was a real nice guy and he even answered questions I asked him about his guitars .

  • Why would he be a SRV clone? Frank Marino and Mahogony Rush was around before anyone ever heard of the other guy. But, unfortunately, being Canadian, a lot of Americans never heard of him. SRVwould be lucky to be able to be Frank's clone.

  • non-distorted version at spotify

    so incredibly awesome!

About the SG, are you sure it's a LP? As for what i know, he withdrew himself from Gibson when they modified his version of it .. didnt know (if) there was any "real" LP designed SG's .. oh well :)

  • Goodness!!! I knew Frank was a killer guitarist... I just didn't know exactly how killer..

he owns the blues, too!!!!!!! Fabulous performance!!!!!

  • I just heard this guy for the 1st time on one of the Sirius stations. Classic Vinyl I think. I never heard of him before. Came home and looked him up. Great sound.

  • @zliminator You have a great road ahead of you!

  • there was a time he played I think it was roanoke Virginia the wammy bar went limp so he went into little town of bethlaham while the stage hands fixed the wammy bar and didnt miss a beat

  • Frank just kicks ass!! One of THE best guitar players who ever lived!!

  • Frank Marino is one of my heros along with the many great blues players. God did the right thing when he provided the world with people who can play the blues on guitar.

  • Anyone know when this was recorded?

  • Sounds like it blends with a little stormy monday more than red house, but still kicks........

  • i love man. you must come to Portugal

  • 5 stars for a star

    merci Frank

  • This is amazing....as Marino usually is.

  • I think Frank's is pretty much my favorite cover of the song. I have the whole thing on a CD, it's just brilliant. I also love love love Gary Moore's version, as well as Johnny Winter's. Oh he's playing an SG. I'm sure if you look on You Tube long enough you'll hear Red House played on a semi-hollow :)

  • Frank is fucking amazing blows my mind.

what a great choice of notes mind blowing.

check out aj slick doing red house there are a few versions but check out the one that is most up to date with my black les paul

  • Damn... so good. Wonderful and refreshing to hear some one who isn't a Stevie Ray clone. If I hear one more SRV-style string rake, I think I'm gonna puke.

  • @jspartacus guess u dont get that srv feeling

  • not sure what guitar he is playing but i wonder what i wonder what that would sound like with a semi hollow

  • I was sitting very close to the stage for this show. BRAVO!

  • i just creamed in my jeans, outstanding.

  • frank is the man

  • Why the FUCK isn't Frank great?

  • why would you say Frank isn't great....?

  • Great in terms of the accolades he so rightfully deserves! They'll (guitar mags) put anyone with a hit song on the cover, but Frank always gets reduced to a byline. Frank is one of the top greatest five blues-rockers ever, but has yet to received the credit due to his playing because he is outside the mainstream!

  • A yummy solo indeed.

  • wow , great blues feel and rock feel , very underated

  • yea my dad turned me on to frank when i was a kid

  • wonderfulllllllllll

    merveilleux

    Marino est un virtuose

  • Crank the Frank!!!!

  • Franks been listening to Buddy Guy I think.....

  • luv this shit! THINK I SAW HIM IN THE BIG TOWN OF WENTZVILLE,MO.

  • Fantastic!!

    Way underrated!

  • Totally killer...IF ever you get an opportunity to see Frank... GO FOR IT!

You will not be disappointed... this man is simply amazing... 3+ hour shows of guitar virtuosity.

  • A men to that brother!! My favorite live shows have been witnessing this guitar maestro/monster melt the stage something fierce!

  • Saw Frank last night at the coach hose in San Juan Capistrano. AMAZING!!! So clean and technically right on. A night to remember.

  • Frank "Scorched the Earth" with that piece of brilliance and with Tone too! It must be even more amazing in its entirety...

  • Although that concert might have been in '88 or '89...

  • i've seen Frank 10 times, in concert...much more tecnical, diverse in his styles and all-round together with his instrument than SRV ever was. Frank has played "clean" many times...listen to "Real Live (2001). As far as "speed", listen to "Live '78"...than say if SRV was faster...seen them both at jarry park in '87, Frank was amazing

    Garry Roy

  • I have to agree with you Garry Roy on Frank's technical prowess, diversity in styles and all-around command of his instrument and music. I love SRV's music and saw SRV live 2x and both times came away disappointed. Maybe it was a low point in his career, but he just couldn't sustain the energy and anyone who doubts Frank's songwriting has to go back to the 70's and listen to Child of the Novelty, Strange Universe, Mahogany Rush IV and World Anthem recordings -

  • Frank is the stuff. I go see him whenever he hits town.

  • But Hendrix is my favourite.

  • Saw them both, Frank is faster, but the effects started to grind a bit after a while.SRV had a totally clean sound and a better vibrato and i think he wrote better songs, but both good gigs.

  • everybody has their favorite guitarists My is Alvin Lee of TEN YEARS AFTER They are all great and we can enjoy all of them. Thats what makes them great.

  • bigguy 4570--Right on! Nobody came close to Alvin Lee and Leo Lyons. Ten Years After were the fastest, cleanest, indeed, BEST band of all time.

  • Alvin Lee and Ten Years After were so underrated it was sad But He is still one of the best in the business. Rock on bud.

  • I hope I don't get flamed for comparing Marino to SRV. But I think while they are very similar, SRV was much more colorful during his performances, whereas Marino is more stoic. The playing itself is similar too, but Marino puts a little more shred into his playing. That doesn't mean he is faster or cleaner than SRV, though. For SRV's style, he produced solos as clean as they can possibly be played. One other thing of note, Marino uses the pinky finger more where SRV hardly utilized 4 solos. Idk

  • I should probably add that SRV is my favorite guitarist of all time, because looking back on that comment it reads like Marino is better than SRV.

  • Let me preface my comment by saying that I don't feel there is a best at anything - everyone has strengths and weaknesses. When it comes to comparing Frank Marino and SRV - I feel that Frank is a little more versatile in styles, a little more improvisational and a little less predictable than SRV. I'm not saying SRV was not versatile or improvisational, or predictable either and at this point in time Frank has more years under his belt. They both move me like many others, but Frank moves me more

  • Jimi would be PROUD~~ This man SHREDDS, before the word SHREDDS was ever meant for axemen!!! I've been a fan since the mid-70's.

    God Bless Frank Marino~~

  • very "new wave" blues...

  • AOUUUUUUUUUCH ,what a great lover of Jimi.Who ever stated white men can't blues is wrong.

The sound is too cranked , that's the only flat vibe

  • RULER!!! THANK"S MAN!!! See him if you can. Frank is AMAZING!!!

  • I had the privilege to witness Frank backing up (drum roll)....Stevie Ray at Jarry park in Montreal June 9 1990 or 91.How can I forget that night.SRV just lost his father. Both of them gave a f...g show.I love Frank's sound

  • We should spoon feed Marino to these crap bands today so they can learn how to play.

    MARINO RULES!!

  • @arnoldresto thx

  • Absolutely Brilliant!!!! A lot of todays guitarists could learn a lot from Mr. Marino!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hot damn he can play!!!

  • nice dogg

  • Frank is the man! Thanks for posting.
