I was surprised by how reasonable this man sounds here. Then he said "putting gays in the force". You don't "put gays" anywhere any more than you "put negros on the plantation".
You don't "put" anyone anywhere. It's a free country, it's a volunteer army. People choose to serve their country. The words people use reflect their way of thinking.
@sckchui Not every word is a carefully chosen ideological statement. And yes, you do "put" people into the strike force. Just because they're in the military doesn't mean they'll get deployed. That's a decision that the individual does not get to make.
I did not interpret his words to mean the assembling of a strike force. I've rewatched it and the meaning of his phrasing 'putting gays in the force' is still seems to me to be talking about the entire military. They were discussing DADT, and DADT isn't constrained to specific situations and missions.
Subtitles under cheney's monologues might look something like this: "We need more flesh and blood to recruit because most young people are on to us with this Iraq thing."
Dick Cheney will never be tolerable, he's a low down bag of horseshit and should never be trusted because he is a twisted SOB! The most seedy and low-graded bastard ever.
Wow... Cheney is not shooting down 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' nor is he pro Palin just because she's a Republican. Is this the same Cheney who drove our country into the ground?
@koren1124 Yes, it's exactly the same Cheney. His relative tolerance for gays has always been the lone bright spot in his personality.
Conservatives usually have one token issue that they can act fair or tolerant or compassionate about; in Dick's case that issue is gay rights because he has a gay daughter (not Liz who is always on news shows, the other one.) But he's still a bloodthirsty totalitarian.
Oh I forgot all about that daughter he doesn't let the outside world see. What bravery it was for her to come out. I bet it wasn't socially acceptable where she lived.
You mean insulted and smeared by ideological hacks without an ounce of analysis... I like vigorous debate, and that necessitates different perspectives. But Ed and Olbermann are not serious political analysts, they only use rhetorical gimmicks, they're expected and boring... if that's your cup of tea, it's fine, but don't try to mascarade what they do as 'hardball politics.' By-the-way, I'm no fan of Cheney either so don't let your reductionisms about reality get the best of you.
who the fuck cares about his opinion on don't ask don't tell? HE NEVER SERVED IN THE MILITARY!!!!!!!!

@sckchui So what is it called when you put straight people into the force? This is just an incredible level of nitpicking.

Really!...cautious....now????? What about the eight years when he had every chance to be cautious or advise the president to be cautious?????
After messing up for 8 long years...he did not even have the guts to run for president......
....I like his comment though......I don't believe I am saying that!

Vigorous debate requires different perspectives, right? Okay, name a lefty commentator who's serious by your standards.
