  • Gordan Banks one of England best goalkeeper then Clements and Shilton came but it was the best save all time but Pele the best player of all time without a doubt im a fan of Pele but the truth is if you dont like Pele you dont like Football if you don't know Pele you dont know Football

  • the best part was when the black square blocked the white orb

  • Gordon Banks.. Legend

  • Every player in the world, Messi..... Ronaldo....... Maradona were compared to one player and whether they were better than him....The answer is No. Pele was the greatest player in history. Three world cups, over 1000 goals. Maradona never achieved more than Pele. Pele was a true gentleman of the game. Maradona will never be greater than Pele no matter what people say.

  • @MrStrawhatlegend George Best is the greatest of all time.

  • @AlexDroog71 As a born and bred Man Utd fan, I am happy to agree. However, the only pity is that George never played at the World Cup. Yet, Pele himself praisde George as the greatest of all time.

  • @MrStrawhatlegend Unfortunately, where Best was born was what kept him out of the world cup.

  • He had to reach down going backwards, and in a split second claw the ball up and over the bar.

Pele had shouted "goal".. stunning save

  • se parece a la de noel valladares

  • watch?v=-B072RLMzHI This is for NEW BETTER QUALITY VIDEO of the save. seriously you have to see it. It's better colour , contrast and more clearer picture

  • According to Gordon Banks after he made that save, Bobby Moore walked up to him and said "Good save, but next time don't give away a corner". Even after making one of the best saves of all time, Bobby Moore was still pushing him to do better.

  • @TheAbstractThinker1 lol yes i have heard this aswell, pele has also said whenever he comes to england, despite scoring over 1000 goals all he is reminded of is bankes save against him,!!

  • whos pele han kya

    do u no baichung bhutia.......

pele's sister marrried his brother on sky

  • Pele regarded it as the best save he ever saw, in other words stfu lol.

  • What a save, but what a header.

  • I think it;s important to consider that this save was made in 1970 and goalkeepers in general wre not as good as they are today. Some of them didn't even have goalkeeper gloves while playing and they weren't considered to be as important aas they are today and so there wasn't as much specialist training for them. The save was EXCEPTIONAL at the time and if you put it in context it probably is the greatest save of all time. However, many goalkeepers today would perhaps see this save as easy.

  • Best save ever...At the World Cup...Maybe...

  • Maradona Good, Pele Better, GEORGE BEST, i'm no man utd fan.

  • @Lugg0008 you need to get it yourself, neither Pele nor Maradona ARE THE BEST EVER!! his name says it all George Best, the pride of Ireland. Portugal and Benfica legend Eusebio said- Best was the best player in the world, not just England, and a good friend of mine. I remember one day he played against Benfica in 1966 in Lisbon, we lost 5-1 and George Best was spectacular, a genius.

  • @pilotl1011 best never single handedly took ireland to a world cup never mind actually winning it Maradona 86.Pele had several world class players to play with also .All top class but maradona shades it for me

  • Pelé is the true king of soccer, maradona a fake god but a real master of cheating

  • @Tromeo31 why say that its bollocks yes that handball was a disgrace but you cant just conveniently overlook the rest of what he did on a pitch .Look up his compilation video of his finest moments [loads of them]

  • Pele is the true KING of soccer, maradona a fake god but a real master of cheating

  • Good save, by my God... why overrate it so much by saying things like "best save ever" etc?

It's a great save, yes.. But anyone who has been watching any Europe league football over the past few years would have seen similar or better saves.

  • The best goalkeeper of the history !!!!

  • @TremendoGallo Just after Lev Yashin ;-)

  • @YoungBass182 I saw them both in the epoch of them, but sincerely Banks looks better for me.

  • i love english commentary if anybody uploads a vid with english tell me and i will like or favorite and subscribe

  • Great football !

  • the world's greatest, shouted "Goal!" as he connected with the ball. Banks was still making his way across the line from Jairzinho's cross and in the split-second of assessment the incident allowed, it seemed impossible for him to get to the ball. He also had to dive slightly backwards and down at the same time which is almost physically impossible. Yet he hurled himself downwards and backwards and got the base of his thumb to the ball, with the momentum sending him cascading to the ground.

  • @Silwoodkid Gordan Banks, the man who could fly

  • THat is the reason why there are dumbasses comparing messi to maradona. Today you can watch messi's goals in five different angles, there's like a fucking thousand cameras around the field. These, which might have been the best header and save ever cannot be fully appreciated because of the low quality of the technology in those times...

  • @NickNorie15 Very True. Not to mention, that ball was slightly heavier too.

  • the only save in the world that can equal it is seamans

  • i can't see how this is a great save? he had his full body over it so it can't of been that hard. david seamans is ten times better

  • bobby moore went over to banksie and said "try to hold on to the ball, don't give away any unnecessary corners"!

  • buffons wasn't nearly as good as this. Zidane headed it straight to Buffon - pure reflex save. Here, Banks has to cross the goal mouth, then get down for an outstretched reflex save and push it over the bar from the bottom corner. Much harder than what Buffon did.

  • seriously he put it over the bar from that angle from the best in the world at point blank range banks was a god in goal

  • Greatest save of all time. For those saying it was merely good, get real. There is a reason why Pele made that type of header (few people can do that intentionally), a ball headed downwards at that angle is one of the most difficult for a goalie to stop. Plus Banks was at the near post when the cross was made, and had to make his to the back post.

    Amazing save, 5/5

  • From the angle shown on camera...it looks just above average...from behind it could all look different.

  • Not so good... ¬¬

  • Seriously? I think it was. I remember someone saying that the one who did the header was known for being unstoppable, yet the keeper saved it. And I think the ball bounced first, so the keeper had to raise his arm up to swat the ball upwards while he was in mid-air, which I think is hard. :x

  • I think it's considered the best save ever only because it was Pele who headed the ball and it was in a World Cup. If it would have been done in a common match it would have been considered only a good save.

(I apologize for my english, im from Spain)

  • Yeah, it was Pele xD. Still, it was a good save. :x Your english is not even bad, lol. It's good.

  • Casillas made a better save against sevilla yesterday. Even that was the best save ever.

  • Dru smit7 right i am not joking that guy is my grandad actually is

  • I actually met Gordan Banks when I was like 3 or 4 years old, I didn't have a clue who he was until I turned about 5 and started to get into football, I was like wow, I still remember the time, he was still playing for leciester city and he was in a town called loughborough at the time, at the town centre Leicester Alliance bank, me and my dad were just behind him, he apparently wave to me and shuck my hand, I was only 3 and was wondering who da hell's the man touching my hand lol, now I know =)

  • Ok I admit. It was a good save.

  • HAHA....only keeper that could hold Pele!

  • Comment removed

  • banks é o melhorrr

  • FANTASTIC

  • hát ez tudott valamit :)

  • my dad ses my uncle playes golf with him lol

  • banks etait untres grand gardien !!!! domage pour les anglais qu'il n'y est pas eu de releve à par shilton !!!!

  • i meet gordon at a stoke mach cus he parked right next to our van witch was litterd in stoke art

  • dude ive seen that van at the brit its so cool :D

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

only european goalkeepers are good in their work.

  • Search for Marcos, goalkeeper of Palmeiras

  • The greatest soccer player ever agianst the best goaleeper ever! MAGIC ! ONE OF THE GREATEST MOEMNTS IN THIS SPORT.

  • Pele was known in America. Now that tells you something.

  • Pelé said: "I scored a goal, but Banks stoped it !" ^^

  • go on banks son!

  • E a cabeçada do Pelé? Praticamente um tiro.

  • CARESSA CAZZARO

  • BANKS, EL MEJOR GOLERO DE LA HISTORIA!

  • You know that this was only the second time in the game that Banks had touched the ball. This shows how defensively Brazil played to begin with.

  • Great. Is this the parade of the century?

  • amazing

  • mejor Casillas en la final de la novena copa de europa

  • the most beautiful parade of all time without doubt I can not understand how he could lift so the top

  • Pele is not a man, it's a machine ! ahahahha

  • Pele is a goal machine

Maradona is the god of football

  • You don't know what you are talking about.... i'm sure you've never watched Pele playing soccer..... Pelé is the best of all the time...Maradona was great, the best after Pele...but Pele was wonderful, No one can be compared to him ! He was like Michael Jordan !!

    Got it?

  • @Lugg0008 you need to get it yourself, neither Pele nor Maradona ARE THE BEST EVER!! his name says it all George Best, the pride of Ireland. Portugal and Benfica legend Eusebio said- Best was the best player in the world, not just England, and a good friend of mine. I remember one day he played against Benfica in 1966 in Lisbon, we lost 5-1 and George Best was spectacular, a genius.

  • @Lugg0008 Maradona was better than Pele. Pele played when football was piss easy unlike maradona.

  • @macmilitant123 Pelé is the best now shut up

  • @Lugg0008

can u imagine pele without garincha, vava, didi, marcelo

he did not play against hard teams means very hard tackles like real did against messi

  • @Lugg0008 He's not like Michael Jordan.

Michael Jordan was a God in basketball.

    Pele in soccer.

    Babe Ruth in baseball.

    Period.

  • Essa defesa foi foda !!!

  • Lejos la mejor tapada de la historia

  • this was during a world cup game, the Higuita scorpion kick was just for show

  • perhaps your right, I remember after the Higuita scorpion kick the press were going crazy about him....until some league managers said "well, actually, he's not very good"...Banks however

  • Also in a italian dvd with the best save in the history of football Banks is the first. You can see it at: "The Best Goalkeeper Save in the History of Soccer"

  • A great save indeed. Please note how Banks moved from the near post to the far one, it's just in a second. The ball bounced off the ground increased the difficulty in estimating the exact speed, angle and height it's coming. Absoultely a difficult save.

  • And you cant really see that, but I like what Moore said afterwards "you've gone and given em a corner!"...and Higuita's was of no consiquence (and no-one was around him), this was

  • Both of Moore and Banks are great players all the time. Higuita's save was not so difficult as no one was around him. Besides, he got plenty of time for thinking before the save.

  • Gordon Banks is the best goalkeeper in England's National Football Team history.

Banks was a part of the 1966 World Cup winning squad and England's Top 3 finish in Euro 1968.

Peter Shilton and David Seaman are #2 and #3 behind Banks.

  • random nerdy comment =] nice

  • I see many negative opinions in the comments..

well, I am not a keeper so I dunno how hard it is to save it, my intuition is it was quite difficult

I saw some good save from other great keepers too, but you know, it's in the world cup, and also against Pele, it might be harder than it looks

besides, the ball bounced off the floor which makes it even harder to judge the height when it comes to you.

It's legendary and great, let's not argue and just enjoy the moment.

  • Well evanewk even Pele himself thinks this is the best save he ever saw. Are you going to say that he is dumb then?

  • The save was good but what an amazing pass by Jarzinho! Players like him are part of the reason Pele scored so much.

  • but all of those players called him "the king" :P

  • Ignorant Dick. Pele is the greatest football player of all time not a nigger. Gordon Banks lives near me :D lol

  • who would call pele a nigger.. no respect.

  • i cant decide which is best this or david seamans against sheff utd

  • banks was the better keeper, and seamans a bit of a tit, but hats off to him that was some save against sheff utd !!!

  • I'm sure whichever save has been the best ever, you're going to tell us it was English.

  • pele said it was the best save eva TIT

  • Pele also said Scotland would get to the '78 World Cup. He said an African nation would win the World Cup before the 20th century ended. We're still waiting. And don't call me a tit (sorry, TIT), you arrogant little Englishman.

  • oy dik ed what right do you have to call an englishman arrogant when your a nazi fuka

  • I'm not a nazi (nor indeed a "fuka"). I've no idea why you're under such an impression, Mr 'thug2007'...

    You should learn to spell.

  • why r u calling me arrogant u mouthy twat!

  • Your not arrogant yourself then? Because your spelling is simply the best ever.

  • Thanks for the compliment.

  • you are not a nazi but you are from a nazi nation

  • '78 World Cup Final, that should be.

  • scotland did get to the 1978 world cup idiot

  • The '78 final, I meant, as I later wrote, having discovered my error. If you'd bothered to read on, you'd have discovered the correction. I'm more than well aware of what scotland has achieved (and not achieved).

Oh, and by the way, I'm Scottish, and don't consider it as a nazi nation. If you have other ideas, then you should back them up with argument.

  • Are you from Scotland? I'm a brazilian guy. I like KT Tunstall music. She's a scottish, isn't she? She is going to play here in Brazil this year (2008). That's not about football, but, you know, when we talk about music, we forget this kind of nazi-blablabla...

  • grow up and get a life.

  • pele is a legend fuck off to person whu called him a nigger

  • Pele is a kind of super hero. Banks as Aikow said, Banks was better than perfect to catch this ball. And for who thinks there wasn't nothing special here, just look at the crowd.

  • no save in history compares to this...although david seamens save against some gguy on sheffield united was INCREDIBLE aswell...seeing it live made it even better

  • seaman's save is stunning too

too bad that in 1970 there wasn't more camera from different angles

  • men waht a racist comment...

  • fuck ur mum!

  • pele is a million times wat you will fucking ever be, racist bastard

  • You pathetic waste of life, is there some way that this tosser can be banned?

  • go die u fucking son of a dead female dog retard

u mental case go to whatever fiery place u believe in

  • What a powerful header! What an incredible save! What a great moment of football

  • pele is black.

  • Yes. Yes he is.

  • no, i am sayin that because i never knew he was

  • BSE

  • Pele was just amazing in this movement. He got the percfect timing and headed the ball down, with a great power...

But Banks...oh my, was better then perfect

  • wow!! what a save of Gordon Banks!!

    LOL:P

  • i havent seen another one but how the save actually happened (i've read about it) was Gordan Banks was actually about a 1/4 of the goal away from the near post when Pele did the header; however, you can't see how quickly he moved because of the camera angle, but the pictures of it are really good.

  • If Banks comes for the ball Pele could have looped the ball over him...so right decision. Pele's header is perfect, headed down with some power, so Banks has a lot of distance from his left to cover, and he has to get down to the ball as it bounces up. Then he mustn't palm the ball into play as there a few players ready for a rebound; he manages to push it up over the bar. So, all in all, a brilliant save.

  • Good saves are rarely given credit but that was magnificent. Pele paid tribute to it, he really couldn't believe anyone could have found the ball as Banks did. What a keeper that man was.

  • come on england

    what a keeper

  • Thats the greatest Save EVER in my eyes!

if the so called top keepers in the premiership or the world did that it got to be shown time after time, i believe thats ace and long live Gordan Banks!!

    top keeper!!

  • BSE - best Saver Ever

  • lev yashin n peter scmiechal r fukin savages mothafukas!

  • just another world class stoke player

  • è senza dubbio la parata + bella di tutti i tempi

  • DUDEK! haha

  • grate that omarsucks is a cunt

  • You can clearly see he went back to the goal to save it. Plus he went down. How?

  • Apparently, it was physically impossible to do it. But, he did it and it came off his THUMB and went over.

  • Aruguing over what was or wasn't the best save ever misses the point. It was a magificant save made by one of the greatest goalkeepers in history against the immortal Pele. That combination makes the save iconic. I am Irish, not English, but I have always admired Gordon Banks for his modesty, sincerity and sportsmanship. You might be interested in the short presentation I had made for the launch of my book 'Gordon Banks: A Hero Who Could Fly', available on YouTube.

  • Seconded only by Dudek (2005 CL final - Shevchenko)

  • Yeah Lev Yashin was better than Banks, I'll admit. They didn't call him the black spider for nothing, if you ever get chance to see any rare footage of him with Russia etc. you'll see how amazing his reactions were, he was incredible.

  • Best save ever!

  • Lev Yashin

  • dont forget casillas save against rivaldo...a headshot

  • @TheBruce:

You complete tool. Honestly, I've never heard a goal keeper bragging, did you?

  • best keeper ever or kahn :>

  • thats wot u call a save

  • peter schmeichel did one of the greatest saves but i cant remember who it was against- i think it was bradford. also seaman vs southampton

  • 'what a save'

  • Seconded. The Dudek save against Sheva is the new greatest save EVER.

  • SPIREITE LEGEND!! we love him at saltergate

  • wot a save 2nd best of all time dudek agaist ac is da greatest :P

  • i heard from someone that when pele headed the ball down towards the corner he shouted "GOAL"

  • How can you say it's the best save ever when even banks says he was lucky?

Oops sorry, my mistake (you must be english).

    Everything becomes clear. :)

  • Canizares last night was as good!

  • r u jokin?? that stupid blonde dick has got nothin on banks!! that is the best save of all time.

  • Well, standing at the right position and having your hands in the exact right place is a hard job at itself so it's lucky but also very good work by Banks. Btw Pelé headed fantastically, no-one could have ever thought this shot would be saved.

  • LEGEND!

  • WHAT A SAVE!!!

  • read this mabz, i made love to ur mum ;)

  • Call it what you want, without a doubt - the greatest save of all time
