Fable blows. Its just like Mass Effect 2 (the 1st Mass Effect was a great rpg)... dumbed down b.s. to appeal to non-rpg players. Fable sucks, badly. But not as bad as Two Worlds 2; which is the worst rpg ever made Im pretty sure. Go get Demon's Souls if you have access to a PS3, thats a phenomenal rpg.
From all the RPG games I've played, Fable does cramp the crone on it's head... Sure, Oblivian, Risen, Elder Scrolls, Lands of Lore 2/3, they have huge maps to explore, but the real fun of it all has Fable. Sure, the game Nier, comes VERY close to Fable, but this game, Risen... I have it for the xbox360, but it gets bored after a while... So I've stopped buying these types of games, unless they come up with Fable 4 ofcoarse!!! :P
@starfry25 There aren't really classes. You just start with your basic character, which you can skill him the way you want him to be. Fighter, Rogue, Mage whatever you want him to be.
The game has a humble amount of magic. Just the usual combat, utility, healing, conjuration and transformation spells.
Its quite a good looking game visually and gameplay wise as well. But after watching a minute I sort of lost interest. Its very close to Oblivion and Elder scrolls and like those games, it seems like it gets boring after some time of exploring. Is there anything is this game that grabs at you after being in a certian area for a long period of time? Other than that I wouldn't mind trying it out.
@Cauchemar89 What a bad sentence. lol. Does it get repeatative when going into different dungeons? Are they all the same, or do they each have a unique thing seperating them from one another? Also downloading the game off Steam.
@Narutoe240 The dungeons are quite varied. They all got a different feel, obstacles and mini-puzzles. At least it doesn't have the copy/paste feel of Oblivion's dungeons. Some of the traps are recurring though, but each of them are setup differently and sometimes need different tactics to get past them.
@Narutoe240 Not to mention Arcania gotihic sereis even the critics say so and that glowing light is similer to a spell that helps you get light in caves thats proof enough.
This game is disturbingly similar to Oblivion, played from 3rd person. Is magic even remotely effective in this game? (more importantly, do you get self-heal spells that actually HEAL you good?)
@CidSilverWing Magic is viable in this game. I got through as a mage without bigger troubles.
There are three main combat spells - fire, ice and lightning. In addition there are Runes with different effects. Those two can only be used by a mage (except for the teleport runes.). There are also scroll versions of the rune spells, which can used by every class but only once though. Heal spells do heal a good amount, but have a channeltime. So you can't use them in the middle of combat.
gothic vs risen: gothic 3 have got more cities and friendly people.Risen got better story and magic spells.if u want to buy one of them i prefer risen for nice story :)
Graphics are nice. Do you have to kite the mobs with arrows like that a lot? I'd prefer to be more engaged in combat, but once in awhile kiting would be ok I guess.
@ChodeofSin The character I built in this video was for pure ranged combat. So that's why I kept my distance. But the classic frontal assault is possible as well with the right skilling.
This sure looks like a beautiful game, and it certainly looks satisfying, but I noticed I got quite bored in Oblivion quickly, does this game keep you on your toes?
@CrazyPandaGamer Unlike Oblivion Risen focuses more on a smaller world and more linear story. So you got less liberty than in Oblivion where you could go wherever and do whatever you want. In this game you got a small, but nicely detailed island to explore. Like I said the story gets quite linear after an open beginning chapter, but it's not too bad.
The game is at least more immersive than Oblivion since it's more credible and less artificial than the Elder Scrolls IV.
Risen have, what's funny' pretty low requirements. It looks worse than Gothic 3 for me. Lighting effects are not the whole game, graphics do not make the right mood. That's my opinion, even my friends have PC on which Gothic 3 lags and Risen works pretty smoothly. Weird games.
@soldier101000 I'd say PC. Even though I never played the 360 one. But the handling it's certainly more convenient with a mouse instead of a joystick.
oblivion game play is one of the best there is out right now besides online shooters so all adventure games are going to have to copy it somewhat just to sell a game until virtual reality gaming comes out. Bethesda has also been around since ms-dos so of course here going to make awesome titles. if you ever played elder scrolls: the arena that's a good classic which started morrowind and oblivion. what I'm trying to say is games have to copy each other to sell now in days.
Will this game work for windows 7? if so, my pc specs are: 3gb ram, 160gb hard drive, 64 bit version of windows 7, AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 (i have no clue what that means or if it's any good), and AMD Sempron M120 2.1 GHz processor, and DirectX 11. I have no idea if these specs are good or not.
@fraserburger The Rad 4200 on your laptop is actually one of the better mobile GPU's out there, but I think the Sempron CPU may be the thing that will hold you system back. Everything else is good, you could play this game just at Medium settings.
I had to let the Don's men beat me up and steal some of my gold then they stopped beating on me and let me in to speak to the Don. Talk about poor programming.

Risen has one town, plus some camps and a monastery - similiar to Gothic II. Gothic 3 had a crapload of different towns and villages.
Risen plays on one rather small island. Gothic 3 plays on the mainland with even different climate regions.
Risen has a guild system like Gothic 1 and 2 used to have - Gothic 3 not really... you just 95% of the game kissing ass of a fraction until they trust you enough and then you get 1-2 anticlimactic endquests.
Yes, well, in G3 there may be 150 towns, but all together can hardly be as big as Harbour Town or Khorinis, and yet, all look the same, have same quests, only three talkable NPCs and so on. Even Mora Sul, one of the biggest towns in G3 has only two streets and could be compared to Gutters. In fact, by population of talkable NPCs you would see that Gutters is bigger than Mora Sul. Stop wasting my time if you dont know what you're talking about.
So a game with basically only one huge town comes closer the the concept of WoW than another game with several small, same looking towns and repetitive quests?
Concept of WoW?! What the hell are you talking about? You cant compare WoW with G3! And why would you want to? I said that Risen is WoW wersion of G3! None of the games are similiar to it, I just said Risen looks a lot more like it. Even the beasts are similiar!
And thank you about the compliment of my logic, shame only you are too stupid to understand it!
i wonder.. i have tried to putt all my skills, like 8 point in Crossbow, but i didn't see nay noticeable difference in the speed of drawing.. it looks like draws still slow; in the bow you can see it, why is that>? and what bow do you use?
Well the Crossbow has a slower drawing speed in general, so you'll never get the speed you get with the bow. But when I skilled in bow I also didn't notice a greater drawing speed until I maxed it out.
yeah, i understand, but I made some math about how many arrows/bolts can be iferd with both weapons and in 30 sec of fireing I got more damage per total with the crossbow that wiith the bow - the crossbow has 120 dmg and the Titan Bow 80, i think; i don't remenber exactly now but when I calulated the crossbow even with it's slow speed of reloading came fisrt :) thanks
I give you an advice. Train yourself for dexterity and bow. So you can deliver lot's of damage with a bow. Then immediately learn alchemy! You will be able to create a potion, which permanently gives you 15 points of strenght. Make a few of those and you'll have a big dex and lot's of strenght. So you can train yourself sword fighting too, and can handle the big boy swords :) The best combination in the whole game as I found out. Delivers lot's of damage and kills quickly without much HP loss :)

The screen goes black and lightens up a couple of seconds later - that's it. Maybe a quick dirty remark but not more. And the weed... well you can smoke it - not more, not less.

It's... I would say unusual.
Compared to all the other RPGs nowadays Risen is more straightforward.
No huge gaming worlds, instead a lovely, handcrafted one; no convoluted story, instead a simple, easily understandable one; and so on and so on.
And this simplicity is actually quite refreshing when you're sick of Bethesda's copy/paste gaming worlds and Bioware's story clusterfucks.

Using the bow only is at parts a bit annoying, since you sometimes lack the space for Hit'n'run in the temples.
What helps there is either conjuring a skeleton as cannon fodder or using a "Transform into ashbeast"-scroll.
