  • I've never heard of a 2.4. When were they produced? What was the HP and torque numbers?

  • @quacksacker 1995-2009, stock they made 150hp and 162ft lbs torque. Pretty easy to get 200hp out of them with a standalone engine controller, like the MegaSquirt I had it running on in this video, and some bolt-ons. I later put a turbo on this motor, ran E85 fuel in it, and dyno'd it at 265hp/256lbs tq at 8psi of boost.

  • @unaclocker Do you have any information about the swap posted online?

We race an Omni at PIR and I want to junk the old 8valve motor. Would love to go to a 16v so let me know if you can give me info on motor and transmission mounts.

  • awesome goods stuff..stiffing up the mounts though i seen alot of movement during cranking sure that'll improve reaction well

  • wa plates gonna race at portland at all? Id like to see it up close

  • Nah, probably not. I usually stick to Bremerton Raceway..

  • I have been looking for omni's in Iowa forever... still can't find one forsale. Specially a GLH

  • You salt the roads in Iowa in the winter? We don't in Washington. Still got Omni's everywhere, in great condition.

  • You make that noise from just a high flow cat?

  • It also had a resonator on it at the time. Turned out the resonator was a HUGE restriction. It's got a turbo muffler instead now. 3" high flow cat, 2.5" exhaust system, 2.5" resonator in the video.

  • Did you use the whole 2.4L motor, or is it a hybrid 2.2L with the 16V head?

  • It's the whole 2.4L.

  • picked up horizon for $350 im looking for the turbo charged 2.4 if i get one im dropping it in doing some tranny work and voila a GLH :P

  • I love omnis

  • Me too. I've got an '85 GLH

  • Really? you should post some vids of it. The GLH is an awesome car! I have been looking at the ones online - they're mostly black and they all look sick!

  • I am currently restoring mine. My mother bought it new in 1985. Since then she's been in and out of several different cars like a 1989 Shelby CSX which we sold in 1999. She blew a head gasket back in '98 and it's been parked beside my garage. The whole thing is still in very good condition. The only boby parts that need replacing are the front floor panels but that's easy.

  • Haha so Mom was burnin up the streets in the GLH ha? Thats awesome that you can easily restore the car - got any plans for it in the near future?

  • Yes, i've cleaned it up and it is really nice. I am going to start it right after i finish up my '90 Jeep TJ. I'm swapping out the 4.2L carbed I-6 for a 4.0L fuel injected I-6. I've been doing some research and i can restore the Omni for under $800. THe only problem is finding a new decal set.

  • Wow only $800! Thats cheap! I wish I could have a GLH but I just don't have enough money. I looked up GLH vids here on utube and there's a vid of a GLH beating a corvette!

  • I was just lucky enough to inherit it. They are very cheap to restore but trying to buy one in good condition is expensive. I have favortied almost every turbo dodge vid on youtube (or at least looked at them) most of them are really good.

  • Yeah thats for sure. Seems like theres no decent GLH for under $15,000 anywhere. I've been contemplating buying an inexpensive GLH that needs restoring and then holding onto it until I get the money to restore it correctly. but it seems like there's not too many of them left out there! Hold on to that hot hatchback for as long as you can!

  • If you're looking for performance, just get an Omni America and gut it. The great thing about the Dodges is that they are very interchangeable. This guy's vid proves it. Just drop a 2.2 in and mess with it a little. It's very easy to do. Of corse, it's not as valuable as a GLH but you can mod it to be as fast as one.

  • Ya thats true. Probably plenty of old omni americas out there. Still the GLH looks way sportier - but I guess modding a regular omni would create a nice sleeper car...

  • Ya and you don't have to worry about screwing the car up by say, a fender bender or blowing it up. It's basically a no loss beater that can really hold it's own if modded right.
