@Incindio13 I just went to my local hobby shop, got some Dubro 1/2 control horns (or you can use Popsicle sticks - check out MikeysRC for more info on that). And the pushrods are made from wire that I bought at the hobby shop too and bent for my lengths (also check out MikeysRC). If you go to MikeysRC on YouTube - watch his whole series on his Sport Trainer Build - that is where I learned my building techniques. Highly recommended!!!
Just got mine to fly. The first two maidens were bad due to pilot error. I really like how you can dig out the foam to place the equipment. I'm running:
50g. 1200kv motor
20amp ESC,
2200 3S battery
corona 72mhz RX
After I become more comfortable flying it, I plan on dropping in a 5.8g/200mw VTX and my cheap CCD cam.
Have you done any FPV flights with this yet? I'm interested to figure out how to land this under video.
@08ds That setup sounds perfect! I have been flying this FPV, just haven't made a video yet with it. Actually, I don't usually land my models flying FPV. I am usually flying in a smaller area and I want to have as much control as possible for the landing, thus I do it line of sight
@schraut5 thank you, I went to rchotdeals com and I have found the motor/ esc combo but it looks totally different then yours could you put a link in the description for the combo?
@TheJantjewillem The motor is A2212/13 and it looks like they sell it with a 30 amp ESC now. The combo is $29.99 (Sorry, You can't paste links in comments)
@MrPlanecaptain The CoG is 8.25 inches back from the front. I have a bunch of info about this plane in the info section below the video. Thanks for posting!
@08ds No. You can use any prop. Just make sure that the writing on the prop, which is near the hub, is always facing forward and that your motor is turning in the correct direction. But any prop will do!
I built this plane and love it. It's a perfect plane for FPV, light and durable. Mine did a nose dive from 300 feet in the air after I flew out of my receiver range and snapped the wing in half. After a few mins and a couple pieces of tape, I was up and flying again. love it. Check out my page to see a 48" wing I use to carry the Gopro. the design was inspired by this video.
Nick nice job! looks great! I do not under stand how to set up Program expos on my transmitter! Ailerons at 30% and elevator at 40% I did not know how to fly till OCT 2011!? so all this is new to me! I have Turnigy 9X to work with, and that's over my head!? LOL
@soldier53flyer1 For flying wings, expo's are essential to fly. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Turnigy 9x or how to program it. I would head over to RCGroups and look for some help, its a great forum!
Figured I would give this one a try. Have the plane built, now just waiting for the slow boat from China to bring the electronics. Will report back when it flies.
I made the same plane and did my maiden flight this morning. I picked up the same motor and speed control but I am using a 8x3.8 prop. The plane is a dream to fly. I am looking forward to seeing your flights with the fpv gear on board.
@F16V1PER Perhaps. It could definitely carry the weight, I am just not sure yet how this wing handles with higher wing loading. If you put a GoPro up front, with a smaller battery I am sure that it would work out
Very clever how you arranged the plane sides to be cut on one board. Started building two of them last night and the video (dimensions you mentiond) and the pic of the layout really helped.
Question, I have the 3/4" thick pink rigid insulation board. Do you think that would be too thick for the KFM2 foil?
@rcjoseb Thanks! Took lots of planning. Let me know how yours turn out!
I think that the 3/4 board should be fine. KFM2 airfoils should have a thickness of 7-9% of the wing chord. This works just fine! Perhaps even better than 1/2 inch
What size was that battery you used to get the c.g. Right? I put on a 1600 mah 3 cell and I think I need more weight before it he first flight. I also have a 5.8 ghz fpv I hope to put on the "pink panther" as my Daughter calls it.
@eryn4586 Great! Yeah, I try to make these as simple as possible, then days of building are not lost if something should happen. Let me know how it flies!
Just got back from my first flight....and last.....I may have zigged when I should have zagged but in the end it flew well. It was a little too windy and I may have beed a little tail heavy so in the end I wound up with 1/2 plane to left and 1/2 to right.......All electronics are fine so no big deal...Thanks again
@schraut5 It did. $2 worth of material is nothing. I may have messed up on the KF I need to start sanding the edges to get a more rounded edge rather than a chamfered edge. Oh well thanks for the plans. I will add them to my repository....
Nick, always enjoy watching your videos. Very professional and great editing. Your buildings skills are always top notch also. Looks like you got a real winner here. Congrats on all.
I can really appreciate making planes out of 1 20 x 30 sheet.....thanks for the video. I have 3/4 pink foam rather than 1/2 how do you think this will handle?
@EflightRG The base length is 6 inches and they are 6 inches high. The front fin angle is 55 degrees and the back fin angle is 65 degrees. I got the design from the F-35 after rctestflight put some similar fins on my other delta. Those specifications make sense? Thanks for watching!
@rockyFLYR Thanks man! Putting my FPV gear on this plane soon. Looking forward to seeing your second Grim Reaper. You check out the new zephyr yet? Looks amazing.
@EflightRG I am going to contact a few people that have made PDF's for me in the past and hopefully they will make some new one. Regardless, this is a really easy plane to make, and it can be done with a single sheet of 20x30 foam!
Nice job Nick, I've been waiting to see this one. Looks like it flies great and that 450 grams is pretty impressive. Looking forward to the FPV videos.
@letmeplaymystrat Thanks! It would be really easy to make this plane even lighter. I am going to rebuild it here soon and hopefully drop even more weight.
I am new to rc building, I was wondering what pushrods/horns you used for this? Thank you for this video and the help you are providing.
