The only thing that is ironic about this song is that in endeavouring to illustrate irony to us, our artist has only succeeded in being ironic by failing to be ironic in the song. What both Jack and Alanis have expressed is 'situational irony' as opposed to irony in its truest sense.

For real irony read Jane Austin or see Ed Byrne on his exposition of the topic.

Sadly, what we have here is further examples of tragic coincidence. Nothing more.

There's a couple ironic things, but not all of them can be classified as ironic. Alanis actually had a couple of "ironic" things in the original song, but they were a form of "cosmic irony" ('rain on the wedding day' and 'traffic jam when you're already late,' to name a couple).
