i want so badly to cross train in gymnastics. i come from a bodybuilding and martial arts background. I think it would benefit my overall ballistic strength greatly. im just having a very hard time finding a gym that has adult classes to be coached by.
awesome, ive always wanted to be a gymnast, besides doing the cool flips and stuff, your body is in perfect shape from training. my school didnt have the money and im very pissed now that i didnt try to find some private gyms.
@dudeonthasopha: It's never too late so start mate. I've seen 60+ year old gymnasts on every event. Sure, you can't ever be in the olympics, or a college team, but you can still be a REALLY good rec-gymnast.
"No Guts, No Glory" and "If you fall get up and try it again" are the 2 mottos for male and female gymnasts alike. You don't know the meaning of the word "sore" until you try gymnastics.
I'm 17 years old, is it still possible for me achieve this level of intensity. I'm a novice and am still learning to tumble. I don't want to be competitive. I just want to be able to do those routine on the rings and pommel horse. And I guess doing bodyweight exercises to get a body like that would be a plus as well.
@jrk987 dude hell yeah, im workin on my double fronts with no formal gymnastics training, just lots of youtube tutorials and vids like this, you got this man
the skill at 2:56 i've been trying; i'm the highest level gymnast at my gym (it was origionaly just a girls gymnastics team). what i was wondering is are you aloud to bend your elbows like that before you throw the skill, or would that be a big deduction?
pommels is extremely difficult and is usually considered hardest by all-around competitors. its a tough event to perform under pressure which also adds to its difficulty.
rings takes many years to develop (mainly because of the strength required) but once you have it, its a fairly easy event to train and compete.
If you feel that a desire for gymnastics still exists within, then why not go back into it? You only get one life bro. Do what you feel you must do or at least try. You'll never know what can come out of it. Get out of that mindframe.
haha im pretty sure thats exactly what it means. the olympics is the biggest competition in gymnastics, if Europeans dont win there they are most definitely not the best. and Nadia is a female gymnast, this is mens gymnastics video, but even in womens Europe is falling behind US and China.
oh and Dmitri Bilozerchev(world champion at 16) coaches there at Ohio State, so there is Eastern European influence because he is Soviet, refuting your entire argument.
Dorian, are you aware that none of Nadia's 10's would be scored as 10's if they were competed today? that's never going to happen again, the sport is just too difficult now. Yea the soviet union and other eastern european countries were a force in gymnastics in the past, but judging from the last two olympics the united states, along with china and japan are overtaking them, it's not a matter of opinion. I'm not even a fan of U.S. gymnastics it's just a fact.
Could you re-upload it? (youtube gets high quality on new videos now, it's a shame this wonderful piece of gymnasts training doesnt get it full quality)
@ostate1369 damn so does that mean im screwed. Im just starting gymnastics and I'm 15. Althought I was a diver so its almost as if i have prior experience and I'm in good shape. Not an ideal gymnast's shape but I'm trying to drop some weight. Do you think there's any hope for me? I really dont plan on doing it on a competitive level at this point.
@cheesypuff800 dude go for it. of course its gonna take time. but the thrill of landing something new is still the same even if you didn't start when you were five
