You mentioned that the screaming happens from September thru February. I have a galah and she has just in the past month started screaming and thrashing at night before bed. It almost seems like she is having a panic attack. But it looked similar to your video. Is this a mating ritual? How long does it last for? Or do you think something is upsetting her? She's getting louder and it's lasting longer each time.
You both are so pretty! I'm wolfy from AA. Dude, i had NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO idea. I mean the consensus on the net is the Galah is the quietest of toos!!! OMG. I have a Goffin and no doubt their volume and tone is way more tolerable. Of course everyone is different. I mean I have trouble with the high pitched piercing stuff like with conures. Yet an umbie doens't bother me as much. So thanks for this video. So helpful.
I'd like to thank you for posting this video. You see, Im a smidge obsessed with galahs, and I have been listening to your boys screams full volume. Very nice I must say.
My first bird is sure a learning experience. Its great to speak with other parrot lovers. With Rosie, we go walking for a few kms at a time, the beach, drives, and even go into Bunnings!, but she has her wings fully clipped, so Im not stressed.
I think if something happened to Rosie, Id look at an Eclectus. If I didnt play so much playstation, I could manage 2 birds :)
great video. ive been considering an eclectus baby joining a 1-2 yr old King parrot female. I concluded I didnt have double the time to spend with birds, so it would mean the current girls interaction time would be halved if I went ahead, and I think more quality time is better than te bonus of a room mate that she might not even get along with. Do yours get on well?
@justinblackburne It does vary. The two you see in this video were very well-bonded but Merlin was a lot more hyper than Morgy. I got another hyper galah who instantly bonded to Merlin. Morgy is much happier caged on her own now. Merlin and the new bird (Nemo) are now constantly together. All three have out of cage time together and it's fine - as long as they have their separate space to go back to. I have a 4th who is severely disabled, who is in a neighboring cage and talks to them.
@justinblackburne I also have an eclectus - amazing birds. He has actually taught a wild pair of king parrots to talk. (Very confusing when you hear your bird's voice coming from a rooftop!!!) Beautiful birds but you're right about the time... They really crave attention!
@sugacackes He's always been noisy (whether on his own or not). My female is a lot quieter. I now have another male who screams exactly like Merlin. Interestingly, Merlin and Morgy aren't bonded any more. When Nemo (the new male came along), Merlin fell instantly for him... They are now inseparable (love ganging up on Morgy) so now Morgy has her own aviary and actually seems happier away from them both (as long as they are still in sight of each other that is)...
@sugacackes Since pairing Nemo and Merlin they have both been a lot quieter, but there is still some screaming whenever the sun comes up/goes down. I expect this to increase when breeding season hits again. (Which even if I had one bird, this would increase because they are calling to attract other birds and to release hormonal energy). The screaming can be reduced to a certain extent through training and by keeping them busy with an endless array of toys and fresh foliage.

Love this video :D really good to give people a little bit of a taste of what owning a parrot is before people jump into it!
