  • Excellent shot of the Croxley Depot almost full of EMUs

  • You just got to love these 501s!! brilliant comfy ,all time great emus ,unlike the plastic on our railways today.

  • awesome vid brings back happy memories of my age until my early 20s as live btwn north wembley and wembley central and also btwn headstone lane and hatch end used to trainspot along the line great vid

  • Excellent stuff. Thanks very much.

  • LOL

  • Great Video, Does Carpenters Park Station have Ticket Barriers?

  • sorry, I've no idea - I do not live locally and as this is outside the Travelcard area I cannot go there easily and see for myself.

  • Thanks, dont worry!

  • @citytransportinfo I've since found out that it does, but the staff are always happy to let enthusiasts on the platform!

  • the shots of 38ts are the of the bakerloo line?

  • yes!

  • brilliant,brings back old memories

  • Well done old boy , this is awesome stuff. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks.

  • Thanks.

B2 was via Primrose Hill. This is significant, as there was also a B3 headcode which was for trains between Broad Street and Watford via Hampstead Heath - they used linking tracks at Willesden Junction.

In the 1980/81 timetable there was still just one a.m. peak southbound (up) train (0738 ex-Watford) which did this, but as I lived miles away I was never there at that time of day.

  • Great vid.

And look at all those 6 coach trains where now you have to stuff into 3!!

  • well, the replacement class 313 trains consume more power, so they cannot run an entire fleet of 6 car versions...

One day (when my equipment is working again) I will uplift some video of 6 car 313's on the Euston -Watford service.

  • Most Common Headcodes

    B1 Euston -Waford

    B2 Broad Street - Watford

    B9 Watford - Croxley Green

    B4 Broad St- Richmond

    CY Croxley Depot ECS

    CX Dalson Sidings EC

"A" was express not often used on a a suburban service

    "B" Stopper

    "C" ECS

  • Wow! what memories this brings back! We lived in Kenton and I used to take these trains to Willesden Jct everyday to school. There was a non-stop Euston about 09:50 that called at Wembley Central and Harlesden only and got me into to school by a whisker!

The BR stock was all compartment, and the 38 stock had standard stock trailers with double doors only.

  • do you remember the train code?

    was it A1?

(A for fast and 1 for Euston - Watford)

    Simon

  • sorry Simon, i have no idea, i was not that clued-up about such things.

(tho' i do remember the 12-wheeled ex LMS sleeping cars on the main...!)

re-reading the first comment i realise i put 09:50 - of course it was 08:50!

  • Invaluable footage, when was it filmed? I'm guessing about 1976?

  • 1982, if I remember correctly.

    Simon

  • xlent vid the class 5o1 emus are my favorites as i used to travel on them frequently back in the early mid 70s' from broadstreet to canonbury 'great memories great trains.so sad their gone.

  • Brilliant captures of 1938 stock! Its a pity that the last 1938 stock train ran along the northern line in 1988.

  • they still run in the isle of Wight, plus there is a 4-car set which has been restored & is sued for fan trips now & again.

I would LOVE to see an IOW & the restored unit side by side, which could happen, but for technical reasons (the IOW trains have been converted to 3rd rail) only on the open air sections of the Bakerloo Line.

  • I lived in Carpenders Park as a kid great vid. I am currently building an Exhibition Layout in 4mm which is based on a cut down version of Croxley Green Depot so the footage of the branch with Class 313's in the depot was very interesting.

  • I am pleased to have been of assistance!

    Simon

  • Was this filmed when the Bakerloo line still ran all the way to Watford junction?

  • some of it was, yes. Filmed near to Carpenders Park, when there were just 4 through trains daily.

    Simon

  • I've got to put another comment on here.. this is just great footage.. it's a real shame there's no sound but i've been sitting here making my own! fantastic stuff mate

  • thanks! :-)

  • No Problem mate.. It's very well filmed too.

  • 1938 EHO stock (Extra Heavy Overhaul) remeber it well. Painted bus red instead of Train red. Looked quite neat as it goes
