  • RIP Junebug

  • Did somebody piss these guys off? They came out swinging with their funk from the get go. It's like they said, "Ya'll bamas go head and play your stuff but we got next." And when their turn came, there wasn't anymore competition. If I was at a party, we would have to play this jam for about 1 hour straight - put the needle back on the record. MAN, THIS IS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE MARROW OF MY BONE. THIS IS SONIC PLEASURE.

  • Look me in the eye and tell me NO ONE sampled this beat....

  • @Apsu72 Eric. B sampled this song for Relax With Pep by Eric. B and Rakim

  • Veewee..... Thank you for Saving me from Elvis and Chrisrina.....

  • These brothers had all the elements of the dirty south sound of today, back then! I have always given the counts credit for starting the deep deep thumping bass sound in music. The youtube audio doesn't really give you the experience of how you could turn the bass up on a counts track and shake a house. The counts were bass, organ, and brass masters!!! They should be on itunes.

  • @suavebrainIMHO The whole album is a masterpiece and an amazing recording/production. Considering the era and the studio tech available then, this album surpasses a lot of modern recordings..

Not to mention their skill as musicians...

Also, sounds like they used organ pedals for bass in a couple of the tracks, some way, way deep sub-harmonics going on ! Can't get enough of this lp, LUV it :)

  • these are the fabulous Counts from Atlanta GA, I saw them in Philly 1980 for my birthday 12/27 in 1980 what a treat when right out and bought some spoons to play with my albums. Now I live in Atl, Ga. wow. I will be 65 dec, 27, 2011

  • The old foot patin jazz

  • I bought this album when first came out, my daughter is 47 years old and she tells her friends how she grew up listening to my music. She also mentions Buddy Miles. This is wonderful music!

  • Essential lp for any funk collection.. A*

  • Good God Almighty!!!

  • Damn for 1971, thats a damn good recording. holy shit....

  • Thanks very much for this xox

  • i sampled this

  • 2:10 i hear OHIO PLAYERS

  • Wow, Westbound records was Funk central back in the day. Didn't Ohio Players and Parliament/Funkedelic do a stint there also? These guys had some serious jazz chops

  • oh sihz!!! there go J Cole pops at the bottom! lol!

  • Pardon my language, this is some pure funky ass shit right here. Never heard of this group or this song, but I'm loving it! Too bad they didn't get any airplay (least in Cincinnati) back in the day.

  • Chef d'Oeuvre!!!!! 5*!!

  • True gutter-funk that could only sound better when played live on an outdoor stage, on a hot day, drinking Ripple and smoking weed.

  • Wow, This song is so good it STANKS, I can just smell the the funk coming out.

  • 5 ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ for love ♥

  • FUN-KEY!!!!

  • This is beautifully produced in my opinion. Got this on some good cans and it sounds awesome.

  • RELAX WITH PEP !!!!! eric b & rakim !!!!

  • Mose on B3, Andrew on drums, Leroy on guitar. Was that De'Mo on Sax? I used to go see these cats on Livernois, I can't remember the name of the club, but they were the house band. I also remember "Jan-Jan" a big hit for them. Now we know who influenced a lot of Detroit musicians back in the day! Reminds me of early EWF. If the Counts had the same publicity and booking, I'm sure they would be a household name today.

  • @elaineyrfj, yeah Jan Jan is a major jam. The G.R.I.T.S covered not too long ago and did a great job. (be careful there is a lame hip-hop act called the grits that comes up on searches a lot).

Would of loved to see this live! You are blessed!

  • raw & sexy

  • very nice :D

  • listen to this with headphones, what a an amazing mix and production!!

  • @toughlovebeatz...no beat box.. all live percussion, however the B3 Hammond is carrying the bass line..no string bass player

  • What a sick track... Thanks for the upload, VeeWee.

  • I started to play the Hammond Organ because of this album.

The beginning always reminds me of having diarrhea... but that's just my sick mind.

This is one of the funkiest albums ever recorded.

    They were BOHANNON'S back-up band too !

  • Welcome in the zone of 100% funkativity :) Can you dig it, bitch?

  • Comment removed

  • @oldschoolbbass thats not true, theres lots of new funk out there. and its good, you just gotta dig through a lotta shit. Check out bronx river parkway, poets of rythm, menahan street band, karl hector and the malcouns. Thats just a few...just dig man .. its never gonna be exactly the same as the old shit cause its evolved but its still got merits and soul and is played by people that love music... the only thing that stops us repping the new skool funk is our old defeatist attitudes..Realdeal
