Just because the unbeliever bounced doesn't mean they free to be married again, the precept came right back addressed the woman as his wife and the man as her husband in verse 16, why, because Romans 7:2 bound her so long as he liveth, then if he dies she is able to marry again and vice versa. Regarding John 4:17 +18---
The woman said 'I have no husband".
Christ said 'For thou has HAD (past tense) five HUSBANDS; and he whom thou NOW hast is NOT thy husband: in THAT saidst thou truly."
In the Old Testament divorce was allowed. Remarriage was allowed as long as there was a divorce certificate.
There is a reason Christ called the previous men she HAD her husbands, but stops short of calling the man she was currently laying with her husband.
