  • fuck the dti , they just dont want people to have fun anymore

  • Eric Gotts also raided all us pirates in the Luton area as well.

I got some stories about that son of a ....

I'm so glad you got the man on film. Unusually well behaved as well. Maybe because of the camera ???

    Impact FM 107.5

    Luton Soul & Dance 101.8

  • London Town lost several transmitters to Eric Gotz and the DTI in the early 80s before link transmitters were introduced, used to pre-record programmes on casettes and have to go up on the roof once an hour to change the tape

  • so what happend to them they got there stuff taken off em and is that it?

  • @OTTFM nah I think he got a HUGE fine

  • Was JBC based in the Harlesden (London, NW10) area or am I thinking of another pirate station?

  • @eyup121 Oh, Grow Up eyup121....I was busted by Eric Arthur Gotts in September 1969 when I ran a high power AM Rig out of Slough.

He was a Honky, and so am I ...whose the racist 'eyup121'....he is doing his job...as we all do.

Keep Race out of Free Radio, you reprobate.

  • @eyup121 moron.

  • @eyup121 That is utter bullshit, place the race card is just lazy and convenient.

  • Eric gotts was the guy who busted me in about 1990 still got the receipt he gave me for all the records i got confiscated in a studio raid. i got caught coming down in the lift and the old bill were standing there i had the monitor radio stuck down from of my jeans haha :)

  • LMAO.... Eric Gotts ! i was busted by him on Norland in west london... the bugger unplugged the link RX and when we went up to see what was wrong he locked us on the roof !

  • Sorry my mistake with the frequency, but yes I think you are right, the NBFM stuff was moved out of the band about 1987. The problem is that the narrow band low power fm stuff was blitzed by the pirates who probably simply thought they had found a "gap" to sit in.

  • I vaguely remember radio 1 on something like 105.8 a wee bit after this video was recorded.

there were some safety of life services using NBFM at about 105Mhz hence the problems with JBC.

  • Dilys Gane, the lady you see briefly in the video was the director of the RIS at the time, this was the only enforcement raid she ever went on. It is funny how CH4 were there in advance, anyone would think she tipped them off!

  • Yes it was a legit raid, I remember not wanting to be on it and finding some other work to do, something did not "smell right" about it. Contrary to many of the postings the RIS guys were not humorless miseries, just ordinary guys doing an ordinary job.

  • All a terribly long time ago, however there really was a problem at the time with the frequency JBC used, the DTI guys did not know that a tv crew would be there. Most of them understandably would have prefered to not have their images used on tv.

I knew all of the DTI guys and they were a good bunch of guys, this slant on racism is just a bit of a scurrilous wind up.

  • What tossers (talking about the filth doing what they do)

  • I first met Eric way back in the 60's, when medium wave or 'am' was the norm. In the early 80's when I bumped into him again, he was so anti CB radio [which was HUGE at the time], what a totally blinkered idiot. If he had his way we would still ONLY be listening to the BBC's Light, Home and Third Services [pre-Sept '67], and would only have 2 tv channels - this guy lived in the dark ages.

  • the main dti guy was eric arther gotts ... he always used to take it so personally ..

  • I believe the chap with white hair and glasses is Eric Arthur Gotts. His colleagues disliked him; he was very much against youth and black culture - he campaigned for the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.

  • gotts is the first one through the door on this raid. Believe me, I had run ins with him as far back as 1974 and it wasn't just black culture and youth he hated.. he was an equal opportunity hater.. he was even rumoured to track down stations on christmas day in his own time .. don't recognise any of the other government men in this raid. Top piece of documentary video though ...

  • Thanks for clarifying it. I'm too young to know! But have read of him and heard stories from the vintage pirates. Yes, I heard about his freelance Christmas day activities... no friends or family to spend Xmas day then!

  • you're wrong on both counts

  • From checking on the AMFM website, JBC was on 104.7 or .75, I am assuming the problem was that Radio 1 started in October later that year (on 104.8). JBC returned after the raid within a couple of days on 104.3 MHz.

  • did they ever get your link box??? haha

  • I WAS BORN ON THAT DAY

  • Great footage.

Also, love the load of old TVs. Great retro stuff.

  • this made me laugh, always so happy those guys, or shall we say dithering old fools! thanks god our airwaves are so clear nowdays!!! NOT!!! haha!!

  • I guess this was located at the back of a tv/radio repair shop.

  • That's correct - it was.

  • What was you broadcasting power/output?
