The sweet thing about those rounds is they also come in HEI(M56A3). :) FBI has these weapons now. With the a fore mentioned round it can stop a boat 2 miles off shore with one or 2 well placed shots into the engine.

Just one practice round(M55A2) runs $9. I've only ran a few million of those rounds into and out of various LALS over the years while in the USAF.

It might have evan greater penetration than the mighty 14.5mm, as it fires a round of similair weight at even higher velocities while being of a smaller diameter. Truly the Anzio 20/50 cartridge is THE most power from a rifle the average American can own. Though the rifle is very expensive, and ammunition obviously is also, I would love to own one! I think with the proper armor-piercing bullet, it would be a great anti-material and light anti-armor weapon for a SHTF, EOTWAWKI situation.

It uses the larger case of the 20x102mm vulcan necked down to the smaller .50 caliber (12.7mm) bullet from the .50 BMG. With so much powder behind that .50 caliber bullet, the muzzle energy compared to a standard .50 BMG is nearly doubled, bringing it into the same power class as the 14.5x114mm round... and, due to the bore diameter not exceding .50 inches across, it's 100% perfectly legal.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but the 20MM is basically like a 12.7MM on steroids right? A guy I know has a dummy 20MM and it doesn't appear to be markedly different than the 12.7MM. I know the bullet diameter is 7.3MM's larger in circumference but as far as case length and girth whats the story?

@nowthisis2stupid A wiki search will tell you the differences in the .50 BMG, and the 20mm Vulcan rounds in detail The short answer is that the 20,, carries far greater mass in the solid shot rounds, and carries alot more explosives in an H.E. version. The 50BMG has only one round that has any explosives at all, the Mk 211. The 20 will have a considerable advantage in velocity, as well. The 20mm gets it there the fastest, with the mostest.
